The bargain of the year

So firstly a huge HUGE thank you to the few of you that commented on the coated trews thread the other day as I owe you big time.  In fact, I think many of us are going to be in your debt because as a result of your feedback, I have found my holy grail coated skinnies.

The fact that there were a fair number of you who commented and emailed me saying that they were so great and I too find them fabulous, leads me to proclaim that they may be THE best coated skinnies out there.  Well, they're certainly the bargain of the year that's for sure.  I'm not going to lie - I do love the Boden ones but these are easily easily as good and dare I say, more leather like than the waxed ones Johnny does.

All hail New Look Coated Skinnies £22.99 - these are the Tall version.  And they have 15% off everything (I'm assuming for today...) with the code FRIGHT15 or WITCH15.

But they also do do them in normal.  And a petite.

In fact, just as good so I'm keeping both, are the High Waisted Black Coated Skinnies which are a whopping £2 more at £24.99.  It would be frankly rude not as they are both completely and utterly superb.

I also tried the Parisian Leather look side zip jeans which frankly I would swerve.   Not in the same league as the other two.

And as if you needed proof, here they are in a not particularly flattering pose but trying to show how well they fit.  These aren't the high waisted ones but to be honest, they are only marginally higher than the normal ones.  I've kept both pairs and intend to live in them.

Have worn them two days in a row so far.... Genuinely they are like wearing leggings.  So so so comfy (and I think flattering...?!)

I also tried on the Warehouse ones, the Diesel ones and the River Island ones from this blog and the New Look ones are the best by a country mile.  And the cheapest by 50% as well.  Plus there's now an extra 15% off.  (and if you order over £75 you get free next day delivery).

Side and derriere views for you.

Outfit from yesterday.  I spent 90% of the day either in the supermarket (I ended up having to visit three to get everything for the party today) or unpacking shopping.  And waiting for the 9yr old to come back from his first ever day out without us.  Which was, in the end, fab for him.  He had a really good time and has overcome such a massive hurdle (to be honest, he didn't realise it was a big deal at all but it certainly was for us - well, me...!)

And today for earlier, up and at 'em with the lark for a quick trip to Bluewater with the 11yr old.  More booty for her and a little bit more Christmas shopping done.  Absolutely diddly squat for me.  Not even a look in a shop.

And a special mention to the ballet flats which were sent to me from Air & Grace.  So so lovely to still be able to wear them still in this weather although I will definitely be getting full use out of them come the Spring.  I love my ballet flats and have been hankering after a ponyskin leopard print pair for ages - am over the moon with them.  I would say size up half a size as they are on the snug side.  A lovely British Company with some stunning shoes and boots.

So I am now ready to rock and roll for Trick & Treating and then a Halloween party back at ours  I'm definitely going to crack out the bat top and will fling on some heels to get me in the party mood (plus a truck load of prosecco of course...!)  Hope everyone else has a happy Halloween too.

    1. Well I'm usually a 10 and normally a 27 or a 28 in jeans and I got the 10.... Someone has said they thought they came up on the small side so maybe the 10?

  5. Ha glad you found them a useful suggestion! I commented the other day suggesting you try them and thankfully you weren't disappointed! I too have lived in mine and whilst out the other day came across another pair of pleather leggings (you may have them already, I don't know, but here goes) H&M plain all over, two rear pockets, pull on with half leg seam across leg around the knee section, fairly thick, but hey £12.99!!! and I think they actually do look like leather too? Not tested them out for kneeing etc., but £12.99? GOT to be worth a try too! One day I will be able to post as "me" and not anonymous, once I learn how to lol!!

  7. I got these on Donnas recommendation a month or so ago and I love them too. Been wearing them for going out infrequently but I might just wear them daily! I found them a small fit. Normally a 10 and I preferred the 12 on me.

    1. I've always found their usual denim to stretch during the day (although to be fair I have only bought one pair but that was enough to put me off!) but these - two days in have been pure perfection in pleather! (and thank you - we're getting there...)

    1. Do they keep their shape as i've had a problem with NL jeans and this in the past. But the coated ones are amazing!

    2. These ones definitely do hold their shape that's why when I saw they had a coated black version when I was in store a couple of months ago I knew I wouldn't even need to try them on. (I did try them on obviously!) You should definitely try the other colours.

  17. Hi there Kat, can I ask how you got on with the black banana republic knitted roll neck you instagrammed a week or two back? Was it any good? It's in the sale online in cream for £30 ish and I'm in two minds..

  18. Gah, I need these asap! Can I ask how you've styled your hair on the last photo? Have you used a wand or is that your natural curl? (It looks gorgoeus btw!)

    1. i used a wand this time - in fact I've just ordered a non tapered one which I think will be better... The Curl Secret is great but it curls my hair too tightly!

  19. They do look fab on You!! Unfortunately I tried them on the other day and well I wouldn't inflict my behind in them on the unsuspecting Joe Pub I guess I need to start doing a few squats!!!
However did purchase the high waisted black coated skinnies from Mango today and bum is fine for public display in them! Will wear them Thursday and see how they go re bagging etc. But fingers crossed.
This has been my first high waisted jeans purchase and OMG it's like coming home!!! Am so pleased that I am v tempted to purchase the high waisted oats coated ones you have from Boden. But am unsure of sizing. Have found boden rather on the large size in dresses etc before but have never purchased their jeans. How did you find them for sizing? Thanks!!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sizing in jeans I find spot on. The 10 I think is a completely true 10. I find their tops come up very much on the skimpy side and I also find their dressees can be tight across the top..... But I am definitely more of a 10/12 on top than on the bottom! Broad shoulders at 5ft10.

    2. Thanks Kat! I apologise if my comment sounded rude, not at all my intention! You look fab in all your outfits! I started reading your blog a couple of years ago, firstly because I was a bit lost on what to wear after having kids, and secondly I am also 5 10 and size 10, so I thought it was perfect (although I must say you look better and skinnier). And later on my son got diagnosed on the spectrum and in a weird way I felt I already "knew" someone who was going through the same. Anyway just wanted to say thanks! You have helped me without even knowing! And congrats on your son's big milestone! - M

    3. oh gosh I didn't think you were at all - I"m so so sorry if it came across that way! And honestly, I have so many lumps and bumps albeit at a size 10, but an arse is something I am not blessed with (ditto boobs). Hope your son is ok - it's so so hard isn't it and so many people (luckily for them!) can't really empathise (although sympathy is always v welcome here). xxxxx

  22. Did you compare to the next pull on leggings also? X you look amazing btw!

    1. No as I didn't want leggings. I definitely wanted a five pocket proper jeans style!

    2. If any use, I bought the berry coloured pull on leggings from Next - wasn't hopeful as I thought they might not be high-waisted enough for me, but I was pleasantly surprised! They fit like a dream (I am 12/14 on the bottom and bought the size 12 and they are just right) I seem to be collecting "coated" jeans and leggings at the moment, have 1 pair from H&M, 1 pair from New Look and now a pair from Next! I think I should stop now!

    3. Ooo thanks! Tried next yesterday to not avail x

  24. I've been lurking on the blog for a while, but never posted! Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation, mine arrived today and they are amazing! I've gone for 8L as I'm 5ft 9 and 8-10 and they are really flattering, heaps better than far more expensive ones. Even the non high waisted ones are high and therefore hide the bits I don't like! I've learnt at cost to always size down slightly as jeans always seem to expand and then I have too much of a gap on my waist. By the way, the next leggings are fabulous too, a brilliant fit and have a tall for us tall ones. They look like real leather.
Really enjoying your blog Kat, I'm teetering on the edge of 40 eek, have got thoroughly bored of magazines and have found more useful tips on here than anywhere. You and A model recommends are such an enjoyable read.

    1. Also meant to add to my rambling thoughts above that the River Island black cracked coated high waisted leggings are amazing, the most incredibly flattering fit, I love them and can't recommend them enough, they are £25.99. Although they are leggings they do feel substantial!

  25. Ordered the 8 and 10 petite, fingers crossed! Sadly the Boden ones didn't do much for me. I very much have an arse! keep up the fab blog Kat!

    1. Hopefully these will be better as they definitely have more stretch in them than the Boden ones. They actually looked like doll trousers when I took them out of the packet. Even my 11 yr old said - "mum, you are never going to fit into them..." But they seem to have magical stretching powers!

  26. Got the high wasted ones yesterday, wasn't sure at first as now being a curvy 14 on the bottom they kind of screamed THIGHS at me. But OMG they are so comfortable. So I went and bought new shoe boots and a top today and now I love them and will be wearing out tomorrow with all the curves on show #thighsandarse

  27. Thank you so much for the recommendation Kat, mine arrived yesterday and are great. In case you're still on the lookout for OTK boots, or at least long boots (I'm 5'10 too so it's a miracle if they actually reach the knee!) I have found true love with the black suede Geox Felicity boots. They are so so comfortable, look more expensive than they are (£165) and I've already had lots of (positive) comments on them. Most I try are too baggy on the leg but these are really amazing, worth a look if you haven't caved with the SW ones! Josie x
