I'm really loving this head to foot lark

Yesterday red.  Today navy.

I fear I may be getting old.  As isn't navy the colour that women are drawn to in their progressing years.  Well yes it is but BLUE SCHMOO - navy is the colour of the season.  Apart from lilac (which looks rather/very awesome with navy, as an aside).

Ok... so I'm not entirely sure it is the colour of the season but it is my colour of the season (I reserve the right to add red, pink and green to this list, by the way).

TODAY, it's navy which is my colour.  It oozes class.  And there is no denying that it is more flattering for most skin (I'm not even going to go there with the "more mature skin" as frankly, balls to that, it looks better on a lot of people a lot of the time.  Compared to black).
I will throw in that it looks great when teamed with black if your black habit is of crack proportions.

However today, it's just navy.  As head to foot, it makes a pretty impressive statement.

The perfect example of how to dress down a part of smarter trousers.

And then... oh how I love a wide leg.

Obviously not forgetting my absolute FAVOURITE trousers this season which I am wearing today.  So.  These come up big.  If you are between sizes, size down.  And they also come up long.  They are supposed to be ankle grazer... I went for the long - I like the fact they're a proper *fashun* ankle grazer on me but if you want them cropped which is a more popular look, go a length shorter than you usually would (I apologise in advance if you need a petite...EEK)

Turn up Wide Leg Trousers £35 - they also come in black.  I bought these at the beginning of the year when they first came up and have worn them non stop pretty much, ever since.  I am genuinely not exaggerating when I say the quality is that of a pair of trousers you would usually pay ten times as much for.  TRUST ME!! I promise!  I have had so many emails and messages agreeing.

Then I am going to throw some white in as well.  Just because it works and because I love this jumper and because all you would need to do is throw on white trainers to look completely put together and utterly gorgeous (well, in my head I would...).

When it comes to jumpers though, THIS is my absolute must have.  I have the black version from last year, for a campaign I did for them and I have worn it so so much.  And now they do it in a navy version.  Be still my beating heart.

Accessories and to complete the whole navy look - a belt.  Like rocking horse poo.

As you can see, I have only touched the tip of the navy iceberg - there will be a lot more to come.

Navy Trousers - M&S (current - as above)
Trainers - M&S (part of paid partnership - current)
J'Adore Jumper - A Finer Thread (gift current)
Bag - Loewe from Matches (current)

Have I managed to convert you to the "not as dark as black" dark side?  Or have you always been a navy fan?   I am not giving up the black but for the minute - it's the season of the navy for me.  The perfect base colour as well.  I have more blue up my sleeve... and dare I mention lilac? *runs*.

  1. Navy is my thing, my neutral of choice, I love it! Some may say it's the choice of the more mature, but I remember Diana in a navy blazer way back in the 90s. I remember because she inspired me to buy one, gold buttons and all! I tried many and ended up with a version from Next (petite sizing!), I bought the skirt and trousers too, it was my interview suit, as well as the blazer being worn with baggy jeans and DM's!Can't believe it took me 25 years to buy another blazer! Guess what colour?
Those M&S trousers are so flattering, they do amazing things for my derriere, and I don't have Kat's long legs. Yes size down, and yes they do come up slightly long (mine are petite, and full length on me rather than ankle grazer). Liking the ASOS tux style blazer too, these are like rocking horse poo in navy, so it's a no brainer for me.
I'm in navy today, and probably will be tomorrow. Pops of red and pink, not to mention other shades of blue ring the changes.

  2. I seem to buy nothing but navy tops but I've never had a navy coat until a couple of weeks ago when a local boutique had one gorgeous navy MaxMara coat at 70% off and it was in my size! But I've struggled with bags/boots as most of mine are black and I think the old rule of not doing navy/black togteher is ingrained in me, but this has given me food for thought!

    1. I used to be the same about navy and black.
Not anymore, it is such a stylish combination! I have several things in navy with touches of black, including a pair of tux trousers where the side stripes is black satin, a jersey scarf with navy/ plack stripes, and a navy belt with black patent details.

  6. Love navy but find it hard to find interesting skirts and tops but loving the poka dot one and the tux jacket. There trousers look great but more work needed to get rid of my saddle bags before I can venture into three trouser world again !

  7. Love navy but most things are in the darkest shade of navy which washes me out like black does. Any suggestions for these lovely items in a lighter navy would be gratefully received

    1. Boden's navy is paler. I rarely buy their patterned clothes, but I find the plainer items great, especially as some come in petite (that's me!), and tall. I find navy comes in a warm tone or a cool tone and even if the shades don't match, as long as the tone is the same they work together.

    2. Well I never knew navy came in different "tones"..!!! Every day's a school day x

    3. I have two Baukjen items and a Whistles sparkle sweater, they are dark, and have a slight purple hue, they are the cool toned ones, and really don't work with some of my other navy items. Strangly my navy biker bridges the gap and works with both! You'll know when it's wrong...

  8. Please may we see how you store all your clothes. Do you ever cull them. I imagine rooms full of clothes..

  9. Navy (oops sorry Amanda)Monday, 12 February, 2018

Can't beat navy, just bought a navy roll neck in the Next sale £9 bargainous. Although my daughter tells me I have way too many navy sweaters, "its nice but why do you need another navy sweater" she asked on Saturday in the changing room at Zara as I was trying on a navy sweater (sorry possible overuse of the word navy here) xx
