Heading off piste. The jury's out....

.....as to whether or not they're a Bob purchase or not. hmmmmm

Firstly, huge apologies for not having been around for a whole week.  Utterly disgraceful.  I have been up to my ears in it with end of term-itis but more worryingly, my fashion mojo up and fecked off somewhere.  Of course we all know what I'm going to blame it on, don't we?  Yawn, yawn and yawn again - yes, the effing jeffing weather.  Not sure about where you guys are but here it has done pretty much nothing but piss it down.  And been cold.  Heating on, boots out, full on chuffing freezing (for this time of year anyway)

Getting dressed every day became a complete chore.  (don't worry, I'm sure if I try hard enough I can be a bit more melodramatic later on)  I was so tired of having to put an outfit together than wasn't full on A/W as frankly that just became depressing, but one that still meant I didn't have wet, cold feet.  I gave up on waterproof outerwear and resorted to an umbrella in every handbag.

Normally, at this time of the season, I am chomping at the bit to get at new season stock.  I spend longer than one would have thought humanely possible, perusing every fashion online retailer known to man, ditto with magazines.  By this time, I normally have a wish list a mile long and know exactly what sort of style I want to channel (for the record, this changes about four times by the time we actually get to buying things.  Fickle is officially my middle name)

This year?  Nah.  And primarily I reckon it's because I'm still wearing sodding A/W stuff.  I need to get over my Summer wardrobe. I need to have done it death.  I need to be bored of it.  I haven't bloody worn any of it.

So I have been sulking.  I'm nothing if not mature. Ish.

However I'm also nothing if not determined and if I'm sick of all my clothes and having to  cover up, then it struck me.  Branch out.  If you don't want to think about new season clothes, think about new clothes for this season.

Even I am SICK of wearing skinny jeans.  And blimey o'riley, everyone must be sick of seeing them.

And hence I headed off piste.  Admittedly they are still trousers (in my defence it's still proper cold) but they're a) linen b) utility and c) tapered leg.

Here they are online   Remove the belt. I repeat, remove the belt.  Did zero favours for me.  Make that minus zero favours.

Hardly the hugest risk in the world for £10 but I braved the public in them today.  Can I please state that these photos are taken at the end of seven full on hours at Chessington with the three kids. Plus journey there and back. Suffice to say I was knackered and somewhat bedraggled.  Having said that, for linen trousers I don't think they suffered "that" badly.  Ok so they look like I have slept in them, but linen trousers (hence in my world it's normally blasphemous to even mention them) look like a crock of shit within two minutes of putting them, sitting down and standing up again.  The photo also makes them look odd at the top.  I can assure you, in the flesh, they look less like I have books stuffed into my pants.

Now the jury's still out but I have to say after a day of wearing them, I'm thinking I like them.  Hugely casual day today for me and I think they worked well although I would have like a slightly shorter top - I don't own too many of them.  I need to play around with outfits.  One of the main reasons that I'm holding back from falling in love with them, is that my main trick when things like this happen, is to go completely overboard and buy said item in every colour/fabric/similar style.  And then a month down the line, decide that in fact they were a Bob purchase and bin the lot.  Tool.  So, I am refraining from becoming infatuated.  But I think I may well wear them tomorrow as well (minger alert)

So what I've been wearing the past week.  With hindsight, it doesn't seem to have been that bad weather wise - however my hair does tell a different story.  As does my mood.

Thursday - Fab PR event which I will definitely post about.  Need some more testing of products though as it's beauty.  Could I be more out of my comfort zone?! (despite being as vain as they come.  Go figure).  Followed by a black tie event with The Husband in the City (work related - his not mine).  Hence I am taking the photo in the changing rooms at his work before I had five mins to get into my glad rags.  Had forgotten that when it rains in London, taxis are like rocking horse poo.  Hence I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards.  Fortunately was caught in the worst of it after dinner and not before.

Coated skinny trousers - Cos
Black patent ballet flats - Primark
Pink blazer - Zara

Can I point out that this is taken when we got in, rather late doors.  RR1 (aged 7) woke up and said she had to take the photo.  She also told me that I "smelt funny".  Oops.  I actually didn't drink that much but boy do these guys mix their drinks at formal dinners.  Every alcohol group under the sun (she says polishing her halo at usually drinking her body weight in only one sort of booze. Pathetic)

Black ruched dress - All Saints
Black ankle strap suede sandals - Zara

Right.  The following photos were taken yesterday by RR1. I told her if she were an angel today at the Corporate Day (therefore only having to manage two loose cannons as opposed to three) I would post these photos that she insisted on taking.   Mario Testino, eat your heart out.  She will LOVE this.  H these are for you xxxx

  6. i like the utility trousers, i just bought a very similar pair from next which i'm really happy with and my god they feel lightweight and airy after being pretty permanently in skinnies! love the blog, have missed your posts (please don't leave it so long next time!) have spent a small fortune since following your blog but am feeling great as it's getting me out the fog of 'motherhood' and i'm remembering and revelling in how much i love clothes, fashion and accessorising - keep it up please!!

  8. I am absolutely loving your blog although it is making me even more impatient to be out of my maternity clothes! Love your writing style too-especially the quip about rocking horse poo! The Topshop trousers are lovely btw.

  9. I have very similar linen trousers again, from Next. Very comfy and without the bagging around the crotch the top shop ones seems to have.

Can I make a suggestion.... swearing! Not classy. As someone who does look for someone for personal shopper employ (this is what you do?)..... this had me heading elsewhere.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to comment, it is appreciated. Firstly, I would like to apologise if I have offended with you any vocabulary used in the blog. The writing style that I have elected to use is that of a conversational style and therefore the vocab isn't necessarily that of a formal prose. I was unaware of having used any offensive swear words that aren't heard in a day to day, chatty conversation with friends (very much the style of my writing). However it has never been my intention to offend anyone and I apologise for having clearly done so.

Thank you for the tip off about the Next trousers. Have to say, I've had issues over the past couple of seasons with the quality of Next goods, particularly trousers. Admittedly I have bought very little, primarily due to me having a ridiculously flat derriere and Next being seemingly cut for a more bootylicious behind! However I do have my eye on some trousers from there that have peaked my interest in their A/W preview............

    2. Not at all offended Kat, just find it unprofessional. Well actually, I know your blog doesn't mention the shopper aspect (only know of it from a Daily Mail mention), but may be worth thinking of if your blog *does* become a semi professional link/blog.

If not... nothing wrong with a bit of personal style!

As for the Next trousers, I'm a skinny size 10, but yes.... have a bum so...... ;-D

    3. Please don't change anything about your blog or writing style or language - I think this comment is really unhelpful. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but this is one of the best blogs I have read for a while! The written content of your blog is as big an asset as the style info x apologies for any typos but writing this on my phone

    4. The only way to live an autentic life is to be yourself in every situation in life. Those that mind don't mattter, and those that matter don't mind.

I love it when professionals swear because it makes them seem more normal and down to earth. You're not being abusive in your language so I don't see a problem.

I love reading your blog Kat and I think the amount of followers you have is testament to how much your writing style is liked. It's honest, down to earth and very very readable x

    5. I like that you use the odd cheeky word, it makes you seem more 'human' and relaxed. But then i swear live a navvy anyway, after years of working in IT. Don't change.

  13. Great to have you back Kat! Have so missed your posts but on the plus side, I havent had to rush out to the shops with a 'want' list a mile long ... Loving the topshop cargo trousers - look good on you as you are so tall and slim. Your All Saints dress looked fabulous for your hubby's black tie do - hope you had a great night? That will be a dress you can bring out for events time after time! Am waiting patiently for Zara (or anyone else) to bring out a sequinned jacket like the one you have as I simply love it!! I am now in receipt of my mango horn necklace which went into the sale and was a bargain, so thanks for the inspiration. Like you and the rest of the country am now utterly fed-up of the summer weather and whilst i hate baring all, I am now longing for some sun so I can at least wear my new maxi skirts (zara flesh coloured one you were lusting after in earlier posts) being one of them!! x

  14. Great post, livened up a v dull afternoon. BTW if you think your fashion mojo has up and left try dressing a 7 month baby bump in this weather while chasing 2 toddlers through muddy puddles and trying not to look like Waynetta Slob!

  15. Hi Kat, so glad to see you back! Absolutely love reading your posts since I discovered your name on the Daily Mail piece a while back. Really really love your style - exactly how many pairs of skinny trousers do you own?! You inspired me to buy the Zara floral blazer which is not something I would have considered before but I LOVE it, and got so many positive comments when I wore it recently. Thanks to you! I also love the Topshop trousers on you. Better weather predicted for the weekend!! Loads of love, and keep up the excellent work. xx

  17. OMG Have been reading your blog since the start and it's fab lighthearted and fun to read, it's a shame as its become more well known and most noticeably since white dress to a wedding gate that some people seem to take things far too seriously!! Hope it doesn't get you down, keep having fun!!

  18. Agree with the above comment, your blog is fab, fun and frivolous. I don't need a stylist as naturally fabulous ;) but if I did I'd want one who I could have a bit of fun with, not some prim, uptight school ma'am type. Don't go changin', Kat, we love you just as you are! Though it does offend me that anyone can look that groomed wearing linen after a day at Chessington. Xx

  19. Your blogs are fab and your writing style comes as across as friendly and fun. None of the language you have used could be construed as offensive. There are always people who will find fault and try to chip the confidence of those they wish they could be more like. Stay true to yourself.

I may never put my skinnies on again (or at least till the school hols are over)

    1. she needs to be really careful on that bathroom floor on picture 4 though, my experience with ballet flats, even with the rubber soles is you'll be fine walking in there and then you'll wash your hands, get your bag and as you're walking away BAM! there's water under the sinks, your foot slips and you start skidding everywhere and fall over. ballet flats are THE WORST shoes to wear on wet floors they loose grip so suddenly on the slightest bit of water.

      Delete
    2. once something similar happened to me, without falling. When I tried to walk away I had to push a big heavy door to get out of the bathroom... my ballet flats started slipping and skidding on the wet floor so much that I could not push the door open!
