Fashion Victim

Hmmm yes, I fear there may have been more than a whiff of this about me today.  But hell, who cares, I had got up at the crack of dawn yesterday and queued with the masses and got down and dirty with the marauding hoards to get my hands on the Isabel Marant for H&M goodies.

Ish.

I actually got to the store at 8.55am and this was the crowd that I had to fight my way past to make my way to the back of the queue.

Hmmm.  Hardly the stuff of headlines for Sky News or the Daily Mail.

Lucky us or what?   Greeted by 5 members of staff from H&M who gave us wristbands and friendship bracelets (?! the 9yr old was thrilled with it) and allowed to leave the queue to go and get coffee.  Beyond civilised if you ask me.  We were the second tranche of people to go in - 20 at a time and you had 10 mins.

To be fair, even though only 20 had been in in front of us, there was a fair bit that was sold out.   But I had my strict shopping list and didn't deviate (oh actually I lie - I did add in a pair of white jeans but they looked so fab with the blouse and the coatigan).  The staff were amazing - looking for sizes for you, checking the changing room for items that you were after, super helpful.  Everything was in very short supply.  I would say probably two sizes of each thing, maybe three of some but that really was it.  I couldn't find the coatigan that I had wanted and had put my name on the waiting list for returns but the lovely store manager came and found me, said someone had just decided they didn't want to buy one and did I want it?  YES PLEASE! (is probably my favourite piece though is somewhat marmite I appreciate)

I wanted (and got) the three matching items below.  To be honest, jury is still out on the silk trousers.  But I absolutely love the blouse and the skirt - together they make the cutest dress ever and are great separates as well.

I also got the shaggy loop knit black and white coatigan (yay!) and the white jeans with side embroidery.  I've seen and tried on a fair bit of Isabel Marant and honestly I can say that I think the quality is comparable with the main line.  Sizing is a bit meh, the size 8 red leather (more coated if you ask me) jeans I couldn't past my knees but the size 8 white jeans more than fit (and I am not a size 8 - I only tried them as they were the only size that was left - slim pickings as you can see)

So here I am last night for a local fashion show wearing the blouse and the coat.

Pleased with this outfit - pared with 2nd Day skinny jeans and Zara stilettos.  Skating on the thin ice of the Fashion Victim pond but felt that I managed to steer clear of falling in.

Outfit from today however - hmmmm.  Admittedly it was a ridiculous rush to get out of the house this morning (isn't it always?) and I did leave the house thinking - ooh I look quite French.  Vive La Marant!

However on catching myself in the reflection of the car window at drop off, I did have a fleeting moment of thinking, sweet jaysus I look like a fashion dick.

Pale grey longsleeved tee  - Toast
Grey linen 3/4 length sleeved top - Zara
White jeans with embroidered edging - Isabel Marant
Black and white loop knitted coatigan - Isabel Marant
Black scarf - Zara
Black Jetstream wedge trainers - Russell & Bromley
Black Diego - Alexander Wang.

So whilst I do love the bits individually, I'm not sure that personally I'm ready to embrace Marant head to almost toe.  There are tweaks I will make to this to make it work as I love the bits and like I say, a couple of times I did think, hmmm perhaps, it works for her and she's 46.  A work in progress.

The upshot is though that I was super pleased with what I got and will be wearing it a lot.  Did anyone else have any success?  Pleased with what you snagged?

  5. You completely don't look fashion victim, you look fab, tres Francais!! (appalling French prob spelt wrong!) Please please don't tell me that was Bluewater you went to? I was tipped off that it is normally fairly quiet there for H&M collaborations but was just too lazy to drive there and opted to sit on a crashing internet site instead...dah!! Enjoy your purchases they look great! x

  8. Bought the silk skirt on eBay for twice the retail price having tried all morning to buy online. It's all on there people- just so annoying that people buy it up just to sell to chumps like me for profit. X

    1. It's definitely worth it. And yes, I think it's absolutely crap that people make such a big mark up. Hope you love it x

  9. Ahhh....bother. Bugger. Now that I've seen the long sleeved silk top on you, I WANT IT. I ordered the skirt. I can't do the leather jeans since my legs are short and stumpy. Even more so when I stand next to you. Most of all, I want that darn white linen top and the lady at H&M placed an order for the lace top instead. ARRRGGHHHH... pfffffft.

  11. I got to Oxford St at 9 on Thursday but they wouldn't even let me in the hallowed bit where the Marant stuff was because I didn't have a wristband. Walked along to the one opposite M&S and they were giving out wristbands but not for entry until 11! Erm, I have a job! But there were a few bits left at 2 pm. And then yesterday I was in the flagship Regent St branch and came across a whole rail that had obviously just arrived! I bought the leather jeans which are lovely soft leather but the jury is still out. My work colleagues think they're amazing but I am not your typical skinny biker chick. A neat hourglass according to the DM. Will see what the OH thinks.

    1. And??!! Did you get the black or the red ones? I would have loved them had they been longer - ridic pedal pusher length on me. Booooo.

    2. The black ones that also come in white which are laced down the side and cost £180!! The red ones aren't leather I don't think, more like coated jeans. Everyone seems to approve and apparently they're not too mutton as lamb which was my main concern. Oh, and that they make me look fat, obvs! I thought the sizing was on the small side btw.

  12. Oh, and my top tip is that returns will start coming back soon as the return policy is a strict seven days and it won't all get sold on eBay. The trousers are much easier to get hold of - probably because they won't fit everyone and of course the biggest size is a 14. I narrowly missed out on the tea dress yesterday. Not grabby enough!
