And not forgetting a Summer classic
Now I thought these would be easy to track down - I honestly thought there would be loads around but the other day when I went to have a look - errr no.
What I'm looking for, is up there for me with a biker jacket. I don't wear it all the time but there are frequently occasions when it is the only thing that will do. It's an absolute Summer must have for me, the perfect throw on for cooler days with so so many outfits - loose print trousers and a tee, the now obligatory summer dress, maxi dress, white jeans, even with chambray to do a cheeky double denim look, the list is endless.
I am talking the humble Denim Jacket.
The absolute great thing about a denim jacket is that they never go out of fashion and they never change. Ok so maybe they might go from the more fitted to a more boyfriend look but I'm so far behind the curve that even though I fear the loose style jacket is making a comeback (oh hello 80's stylee - clearly this is mostly being channelled by young flibbertygibbets who weren't even thought of in the 80's, let alone born and god forbid, wore them first time round) that I have at least a couple of years embracing my fitted version before I snarf down some humble pie and drag out a snow washed, oversized number thatTiffany would have been proud of.
However I did manage to find one and to be honest, if I didn't have mine already - I would absolutely have bought this. Perfect fit AND in the sale - what more is there to love?
Oh and for the record, not even I go as full on double denim as I have in these pics - I am MERELY trying it on......This is a 10 by the way - it is a snug fit but I'm never going to do it up so that's better for me.
Denim Western Jacket from Warehouse was £46 now £20
They also have a more faded version but they didn't have my size instore. Again £20. Exact same fit as above.
Now I looked in pretty much every high street store and diddly squat. A sea of sales tat adoring the rails - yes, they've reached jumble sale status. Who on earth has either the time or the inclination to rifle through an unappealing mass of what looks like junk? No, not even me. Denim jackets? No (apart from the one above and I didn't even find that - I had to ask a Sales Assistant - which I will admit I did in every shop as opposed to raking through the coats)
However on doing some online research, there are actually a couple more which look like they'd be worth considering (although better than the £20 bargain above? Well I'd be sceptical but things fit different people and you might want a different wash, length, fit or brand).
Starting with this from Mango.
Mango Light Denim Jacket in pastel blue £44.99
A classic from Levis £70
A paler Levi's classic on sale - now £56 was £80
Lovely looking one at Fat Face
Fat Face Portabella Mid Denim Jacket £48
Adore this collarless version from Jigsaw - they had none instore and she did actually look at me like I had two heads when I asked if there were any. Which is ironic seeing as this is so fabulous (and clearly popular as only left in limited sizes)
Collarless Jacket from Jigsaw £85
Another simple classic from Jigsaw (again not in store.... ) Zero idea why this is called Knitted. Darned if I know - I have looked in minute detail as it and cannot see an iota of knittedness.
Knitted Denim Jacket £89
And as they were so lovely and helpful in Warehouse and whilst they went and tried to hunt down sizes for me, it would have been rude not to have a teensy tiny look at what they had new in. Well that was worthwhile - I came across the most stunning dress. This is perfect perfect perfect for this time of year (yes I'm on a dress roll - but just a couple - be kind.....). Thin enough to wear on a warm day, enough coverage to wear to work, but could easily be dressed down for the school run. Throw on heels for the evening and you're off.
This looks so much more expensive in my humble opinion - not sure anyone would guess it was from Warehouse (not that it matters that it is!)
Border Texture Shift Print Dress from Warehouse £46
They also had it in a gorgeous camel and pink version which they don't have online unfortunately.
The same dress in a different print also Warehouse £38
Adore this one - Giant Floral Crepe Shift £48
So do you do denim in a jacket? How long have you had yours for? I actually have one that is older than two of my children. Get in there. (and it was £12 from Red Herring at Debenhams on Oxford Street a gazillion years ago. Marvellous)
Finishing with a couple of photos of outfits - totally didn't get round to doing any over the weekend but they're outfits that will be repeated so nothing to write home about.
From Friday - yes it was freezing (what a difference a couple of days make! Biblical weather and we had the heating on!)
I don't think you can beat a denim jacket in the summer. I love them with a maxi skirt and vest top or maxi dress. The first Warehouse one is gorgeous. I have three - one a cheapo one from Peacocks (which is great!), one I've had for about five years from Miss Selfridge and a vintage Wrangler which was hubby's when he was a teenager (he's nearly 49 now!!!). Lynne x
ReplyDeleteI love denim jackets, I am just yet to find the right one on me. They always come up too boxy on me and look like I'm wearing shoulder pads. I am still after your Warehouse shorts so I must them a visit and check this bargain version out too. Oh and please tell me you got that dress??? It looks amazing on you x
ReplyDeleteI had the Jigsaw collarless denim jacket for two weeks and returned it on the last day of the returns. It was lovely but … I don't wear the dratted things and it would have been a costly item sitting in my wardrobe not earning it's keep. But it was a tough decision to make!
ReplyDeleteDenim jackets I got one last year in H&M it is still hanging in the wardrobe unworn, I try it on and it just doesn't seem to work on me( I think it's the cropped back - doesn't help) I like the warehouse one on
ReplyDeleteyou and jeans around your ankles .... love!! I like the WIT blog jigsaw collarless one, I was looking for that last night and it appeared to be sold out but yeah your link is showing a 10... tempting, no I can't. The dresses look fab on you by the way.
Ha just seen Sue's comment maybe it's hers that she has returned! X
DeleteLove those trousers on you, saw them in Zara today but have recently had a wardrobe cull and am disgusted with myself at the amount of things I have that I hardly wear so on a shopping ban (unless something amazing comes along of course) until all has been worn.
ReplyDeleteI had the most beautiful denim jacket, bought in Germany 12 years ago, worn every summer for about 9 years, then I lost it, no idea where or how, I don't think I will ever forget it, but I did buy the jigsaw one a few weeks ago to fill the gap it left behind and I like it so far, doubt I will have it 9 years, but who knows..
I bought a gap collarless one for £20! It's a lighter colour, but I wasn't paying the jigsaw price.
ReplyDeleteWhat great timing have just put an old cropped topshop one on ebay and was going to go out tomorrow to have a look for a new one. Do really like the jigsaw one but would not wear it enough to justify spending that much. Was going to look in the supermarket but now you have showed the warehouse one will have to take a closer look .
ReplyDeleteI have a french connection one that must be eight years old and still does the job! Love the Jigsaw collarless one though!
ReplyDeleteAbbi x
I love love love your khaki gap trousers they are utterly fabulous, need need!! They look great, I do love a denim jacket and a biker most used jackets...off to stalk the gap website x
ReplyDeletearrgh I am so sorry they're from zara! in sale xxxxx
DeleteNope. Not for me. Denim jackets look great with maxis and I don't wear those either. I do like a bomber jacket though. I am in love with your khaki paint splat trousers. I have got to have some of those. Spending ban or no
ReplyDeleteThey just don't work if you're busty, believe me I've tried! The stiff fabric is a disaster on curves!
ReplyDeleteI've just read your blog. Wore my trusty old Warehouse denim jacket which must be at least 15 years old out for dinner with friends last night. At what point can an item be described as vintage ? ;)
ReplyDelete15 years?? VINTAGE!! :-)
DeleteUsed to love denim jackets - but not sure anymore and not even sure where my old beloved one is. Adore the Warehouse dress though - Warehouse is fab at the moment, isn't it? Laughed out loud at your fess up shot!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the Khaki Zara trousers and how you've styled them! May have to see if there is a pair left in my size :)
ReplyDeleteLove this post - I cleared out my cupboards last weekend and found a joseph denim jacket that I don't even remember buying - its got to be 10+ years old.. LOVE the jeans round the ankles pic, honest pic of the year!
ReplyDeleteAnd now I want your Hobbs coat ...
ReplyDeletemake a damn fb page already
ReplyDeleteLove love love the blue Warehouse dress - actually I own it already :-) And thanks for showing how you actually try things on LOL. Just as classy as myself :-D (But who has the time to take off shoes and trousers numerous times during a shopping trip and then put it all back on...?! Honestly....nobody...)
ReplyDeleteSorry for delay but bit behind on my blog-reading. Don't usually comment, But just have to share my extreme pleasure this season with my new denim jacket, which is from next directory online, it's dark denim biker style jacket. Denim + biker = amazing! will go with anything (except jeans, double denim definitely a no no!!)
ReplyDeleteI have loads of denim jackets mostly Levis ones from my care free spending days & I'll probably never need another as the older they get the better they look! You can't beat them for this inbetweeny weather thats for sure! Ax
ReplyDeleteWhat is your actual size? I just ordered size 8 pretty much scared it wont fit me :)
