It's the annual Panto post

Haven't done one yet this year so this is perhaps overdue.  Yes, in an ideal world we are thinking about all things new season but let's be frank - we probably have another four months of boots.  I'm sorry if that sounds depressing but it's true.  What's not depressing though (every cloud and all that) is that it's the perfect time to treat yourself to a new pair of these gems.

This post is also a sneak preview of my cunning New Year's Revolutions (as they're known in our house).  Which I won't go into now but suffice to say, these would fit the brief.

I'll give you a tiny clue.... I don't have any of these.  I don't even have any knee high boots (ok actually I do have one pair..... which a lovely friend gave me and actually they'd be perfect with my Stella McCartney flared jeans... but they've got a fair heel on them).  Right now I am also all about the flat shoes and boots.  Don't ask me why, I am clinging to the hope that it's not an age thing and more of a style thing.  But whatever it may be, I am loving all things flat.

And that includes a pair of slap my thigh, principal boy stylee, Over the Knee boots.  Those who have read the blog for a while will know that I cover this off every year.  It's an itch I haven't got round to scratching.  Strictly not true in that I have given it a good go.  A really good go and every year I try on a squidillion (aka 10) pairs but they are never long enough.

I love the look of these over skinnies with a huge chunky knit.  Or with a short A line skirt or mini dress they can look fantastic.  If they come over the knee.  Not hovering somewhere round your knee which they all do on me.  I'm not interested in knee high boots (which is another bone of contention as they're never knee high on me, they're mid calf.  And frankly look pap which is why I don't own any)

So we come full circle.  However God loves a trier and so I'm going to give it another go.  I've spent the most fantastic jama day with my family (including numerous rounds of Monopoly Empire which I can highly highly recommend.  Principally as a) there aren't a thousand cards and houses to set up - and then litter round the house and b) a game only lasts about half an hour.  I shall burn all other Monopoly sets.), we've done Night at the Museum 2 and we're now snuggled up in front of Frozen.

And I'm doing boot research which will hopefully involve some Click and Collect (as I'm not sure I can face an actual shop just yet.... I'm scarred by my attempt to go to Ikea on Christmas Eve.  Only to get there and find it was SHUT!)

But I digress - I am definitely in woolly jumper and over the knee boots mode.

I have to say the jury is out on whether I want leather or suede.  To be honest at this juncture I will just go with the ones that fit.  When I say fit, the criteria is simple.  Firstly they must be over the knee (said with irony) and secondly, they mustn't look I'm off on a fishing expedition.  I'm not after waders, they need to be fitted to my leg.

Starting with some great ones at Kurt Geiger which definitely look as if they're worth a look.

Vantage boots from Kurt Geiger were £220 now £99  Slight concern is that these may be baggy around the ankles... should have mentioned that's the third issue when it comes to fit.  You can sort of see why I've abandoned the mission in the past, can't you?

But not being undeterred, I remember seeing what looked like an ace pair at Warehouse.  Which are still seemingly on their website but unbelievably irritatingly whenever I click on them it just takes me back to the home page.  The Gods of Over the Knee boots really are conspiring against me.....

They are though, very similar to these that I've tracked down at Office.  Does anyone happen to know whether Office still have the most diabolical delivery service?  I recall ordering online from them years ago and good simply never appearing (the way this boot search is going, I can see where this is heading....)

Office Nova 2 Extra High Thigh High Boots in black suede £120

Well surprise, surprise, they don't have them in my size.  (or the first ones from KG)  I'm saying nothing.  (inside cue screaming)

Whilst we're on the subject of not in my size, I am also unable to order these which is criminal as these look fantastic.  And what a bargain.

Black Wentworth KG by Kurt Geiger were £220 now £69

More full leather in the sale at Hobbs.  Jean over the knee boot was £299 now £179  Again not sure if these would be a decent length on me.

These ones do look like they might be long enough.  But they just look slightly too utilitarian for what I'm after (although they would make a great day pair, I've now decided I want to be able to wear them for slightly dressier occasions here.  And it all becomes clear why I don't own a pair)

Dune Torz Leather Knee High Boots in black £159

I also have a horrible feeling these wouldn't be long enough but they are also a bargain and I love the gold detailing on the heel.

Black Pacific from Carvela at Kurt Geiger was £229 now £139

And in suede as opposed to the leather above also £139 (the suede would get my vote)

At Kurt Geiger in the sale there is also a brown option (these also do come in black)

Walnut Carvela at Kurt Geiger was £200 now £119

Now not reduced but these, if you are of a more normal height than me at 5ft 10 are perfect.  Simply perfect and you'd have them for years.

Dune Trish Over the Knee boots £145

As well as the above suede, they also do this in a leather version.

And in a navy which I absolutely adore.

So it appears that there is diddly squat available in the sale in my size.  Well at a reasonable price anyway.  I give myself five minutes after posting this blog till I order these.  They *are* in the sale.....

LK Bennett Sasha Suede Over the knee boots £265 were £375

Or it will be worth also looking at these from KG.  (free delivery and I can just take them back intstore next week - don't you love my assumption that they're going to be pants?)

Vanessa KG by Kurt Geiger £210  I believe if you sign up for a newsletter at KG then you get 10% off your first order of full price goods.  Which is better than a smack around the face with a wet fish.

So all in all, I have pretty much nada to choose from.  I am determined to crack this this season.  Has anyone else caved at all?  I'm going in girls, I'm going in.....

Outfit from Christmas Eve.  I absolutely loved this outfit.  Was a ridiculously mild day and as I was in a car most of the day, I didn't need a jacket.  (trying to go to Ikea.  And no I didn't check it was open before I went as I didn't in my wildest dreams think it would be SHUT!  I had of course gone on line to check that the mattress I needed for the poor little 6yr old's new bed which arrived, was there.....which it was... in the only shop in the world that doesn't open on Christmas Eve.)

Tie dye navy and grey jeans - H&M
Buckle boots - Toga Pulla

And yesterday for a great day with all the family - yes I am rather worse for Champagne here....

Untitled

Black coated sleeve peplum top - Cos
Black pleather peg leg trousers - Zara
Suede and elastic shoe boots - M&S (which are now sold out again and I am totally kicking myself I didn't get them in the navy.  You snooze you lose.  Why have I not worked this out by now....?)
Am also still firmly in knitwear mode and I may have a sneaky peak at some dresses "just in case"....  Wondering if I'm brave/foolish enough to venture to a real life shop tomorrow?

  3. The Dune Torz are currently on Amazon for £78ish depending on your size, I ordered them earlier after falling in love with them in HoF where they were full price! Beautiful leather and look like they will last years. The Gold zip on the back makes them a bit dressier. The Trish are definitely not for tall people - I'm 5'8 and they finished under my knee. Nowhere near as nice as the torz either, they don't look like they will last more than a winter or 2. X

  5. Kat, I too quest for true OTK boots - being 5.8" I have deduced by my many trying on's that anything less than a 23" shaft is not worth even looking at - good luck!

    2. In the 80's I had some made to measure in a little shoemaker's house in Cyprus. I remember him holding up the tape measure on the inside of my leg saying "you sure you want more higher?" and getting all red-faced!
I can't believe I threw them away, the sock came out of the inner shoe and I was too naive to think of fixing them!
