Camo time

So.  I was replying to a comment earlier on my blog from yesterday, yabbering on about being rather unadventurous with Summer wear and personally struggling to get to grips with the more eclectic looks - being 43 and living in the home counties - and actually more than that - just being more comfortable with a slightly pared back look.

However I then remembered one of my impulse purchases from last week which don't exactly lend credence to my claims.  Although some (the husband for example) may insist that these are less eclectic and more just batsh*t crazy, but I beg to differ.

These were (as I mentioned the other day), a total impulse buy but a great one as I've already worn them twice.  My new camo joggers.

Now I need to reign myself in as I feel the camo bug may be catching.  It is the perfect Spring pick me up that will fit perfectly into your wardrobe and make a huge difference to all those outfits you are probably (if like me) totally bored of wearing.

All they require are great basics - I'm sticking to black as I'm an unadventurous wuss - to make a completely different looking outfit.

And I bet you'll be so surprised at how many compliments you get.  For a start my kids think they're really cool (even the 11yr old who is sceptical about a lot that I buy....) so that's got to be one reason for wearing them.

If joggers aren't your bag, fear not, there are alternatives to scratch the camo itch.  For me though, these Topshop ones are the perfect subtle shade of khakis and greens, super flattering (not something you can say about lots of joggers and these are proper jogger fabric but better quality than most), comfortable (like jamas - old lady alert, this makes them a 10/10 from the off) and come in three different lengths.  Plus the addition of the black stripe is perfection - in my book makes it a no brainer to just fling on a load of other black (I actually don't think it matters what - from cardigan to biker jacket to blazer to coat) and instantly you have a cohesive outfit.  For £30.

Camo print joggers in the green with black stripe from Topshop £30  They also do them in Tall and Petite online.  Size wise - I think they're bang on (unlike a lot of TS which can come up on the small side... ie anything that's got a fixed waistband).  I have a 10 in the Tall.

If you're more of a navy person then these are sublime.  Don't know whether to be sad or relieved that they don't do these in a tall as with a navy blazer, white tee, white stans (or loafers... or red shoes... oh yes....) these would rock.  The navy blazer is something I need to explore more as, at the moment, I feel it turns me instantly into 1990's WI refugee.

Camo print joggers in the blue shade £30

To get the look for less, I came across these instore at New Look the other day and will say that the quality definitely belies the price.  Really lovely fabric (although they did NOT look very big - the top especially - so I would be tempted to size up).

Cameo Rose green camo print joggers £13.99 from New Look

So you can always do the matching top and bottom... I can't say this is something I'm going for BUT never say never... it's actually not as bad as I thought it would be... I may be tempted to break up the top and bottom so it doesn't look like a onesie.  I think a white jersey layering shirt would be amazing under this.

Cameo Rose green camo print top £14.99 from New Look   This on its own with grey, black or khaki bottoms would look much more chic than you would first think (must. not. buy.....)

Slightly different and even cheaper, also at New Look.

Blue Vanilla green camo print top and joggers set from New Look £25  Which can easily be worn as separates for a total bargain price.

Moving onto other tops.  Adore this from Topshop.

US Army Camo Sweat by Tee & Cake £35

And jackets...

Rose Printed Camo Shackett from Topshop £42

Or if you're after something that looks, in my opinion, slightly "lighter", then this one could be the perfect option.  To prove that khaki and blush are sublime together and the addition of blue makes this the perfect shade to team with denim.

Camo Printed Shackett from Topshop £39

Similar colourwise - even though I shall not be wearing a bomber, if I were to consider one - it would possibly be along the lines of something that is "out there" - as the perfect foil to a wardrobe of neutrals.

Pink Camo MA1 Bomber jacket from Topshop £59

Obviously I couldn't do a blog without including my favourite subject of the moment... good old shoes.

And if you don't fancy the whole camo in an outfit offering, then how about a hint of camo in a shoe?

Jack Purcell Converse Camouflage Print Canvas Sneakers from The Outnet were £55 now £38.50

And a grey shade - were £55 now £42 - Jack Purcell Converse from The Outnet.

Whilst we're on the topic of trainers and looking at The Outnet, I can't NOT mention that they have just got a whole load of Golden Goose in... Which will not hang around for long.  If ever there was a time to indulge, I'd be doing it now.

Lots of options online but my pick would be:-

Patent leather-trimmed suede sneakers were £260 now £130

Golden Goose DB Slide suede and leather trimmed hi tops were £265 now £132.50

Francy metallic leather panelled sneakers were £260 now £156

And loads more options online (don't blame me...).

So here I am today - yet again in the camo.  I always wore them on Friday - two different outfits, one more casual than the other.  They are the most comfortable trousers.

Friday's outfit.

Black lyocell tee - & Other Stories
Black longline blazer - Me+Em
Camo joggers - Topshop
Red Sneakers - Golden Goose
Red Soho Disco bag - Gucci

And today -

Black extra fine merino jumper - Uniqlo
Onyx leather jacket - hush
Camo joggers - Topshop
White sneakers - Golden Goose
Black Haworth bag - Village England

I'm starting to put together some ideas for a more paired back Summer look.  Will hopefully be back with some ideas tomorrow.

In the meantime - can I tempt you with a bit of camo?  And I apologise in advance for how often I will be wearing these....To be fair, I did say that I was having a love in with joggers this season.

  1. I love your joggers, but my ski thermals are camo pattern so I fear I would always feel like I was about to shoop shoop shoop off on the school run. My wardrobe issue though, I actually really like them as a 'look'!!

  2. Camo joggers not for me - am mid-50s, but have a divine matte silk camo shirt by Equipment from about three, or even four, years ago that I shall definitly be reviving. And totally love the GG - as usual. Thanks for the heads-up Kat!

    1. OMG that sounds amazing. Equipment shirts are amazing. I am just slovenly to look after one properly...! Sounds gorgeous and definitely has stood the test of time. I bet you've worn it ever year!

  3. Love camouflage on you (especially with red), as for me, wellllll. ...
Blame it on the territorial army in my early 20's, before moving to Denmark! Took me years to get my head round cargo trousers for the same reason! Although I feel the same about camouflage as I do about animal print, if it's not in greens, browns and blacks then small doses are OK, so a few years ago when Christopher Kane did some high end camouflage in blues and greys I was smitten. Not that I had the money (or the figure) for his pieces, I did end up buying a t-shirt in blues and greys.
Love the GG's, discount's good as well. (Just ordered a pair of grey suede Stan Smiths after dithering for weeks, so they were very nearly sold out!)

  4. I've been on a bit of a camo spree recently. I'm in the US, and have picked up camo joggers in Uniqlo, along with a men's camo hoodie (not to be worn at the same time!!). I also got a camo boyfriend shirt from Express, amazing quality and looks great with black skinnies: http://www.express.com/clothing/women/camo-silky-soft-twill-boyfriend-shirt/pro/8643764/cat430028 Maybe something to check out when you're in NY? Desperately trying not to look for a jacket, as I already have a plain khaki green one from years ago. But saw a blue camo jacket on the Gap website today... !

    1. AHA now I saw the blue camo one (with a waist string tie?) online but then when I went back, it had disappeared? Maybe it was only in the Us. Express is an idea to check out thank you so much xxx

    2. I think the Gap one is new on the US website, so maybe it'll come back in the UK? It only seems to be online here at the moment, although they usually roll out to shops fairly quickly. I find Gap sizing so inconsistent though that I'd have to try it first.

    3. That's what I thought... Their sizing (like everywhere else to be fair!) is insane.

  5. It was clever of you in a previous post to suggest wearing a blush jumper with camouflage. I picked up some Ralph Lauren camo chinos at TK Maxx for a tenner at the end of last summer, then tried + failed to match with every top in my wardrobe. Black or brown just felt as if I was trying to take the bally things too seriously - eventually plumped for a stone coloured sweatshirt - but now think you may be right and blush pink is the way to go.

  7. I have the grey Hush ones and they are divine! They wash up really well and are so comfortable ... I love hem with the cuffs rolled over ... Amazing! Can really recommend

    1. Oh they are definitely on my sales list! But could be perfect for packing for hols in May.. although I have to say I think one pair of camo might be enough!

    2. Thanks Sally, will hold out for a discount code before I purchase.

  8. Love the camo converse! I can't justify them as I've just bought a pair of Missoni print ones, I'm just waiting for the nice weather...

  9. After seeing the TS camo joggers on you & Fran - I had to try - and of course loved and bought them! As well as trainers I tried them with heels and a short black blazer.... They look amazing dressed up! Have you tried? X also got the camo rose NL top last week - beautiful soft material. That's my camo fix done...(I think?)

  11. V All Saints - which are also back in fashion! Love the Golden Gooses (or should that be geese!).

    1. Oh god, not sure if that's a good thing...!! Yes I never know whether it's just Golden Goose as the plural...!

      Delete
    2. As stupid as it sounds I think in this case it is goose because the you are still only referring to 1 pair of shoes. (I had a problem referring to someone who 'screen shotted ????? an image. As soon as I said it I knew the whole sentence was wrong. Haha. Sometimes you just have to start again.

      Delete
    3. I think you're right - I do always refer to them as Golden Goose as opposed to Golden Geese!!

      Delete
    4. You're definitely right with Golden Goose, not only because it's a "pair of Golden Goose" but it's a brand name, therefore it doesn't change (it doesn't need a plural option)

  13. Oh yes, I have indulged in the camo! Not too much though, as mid 50's is pushing it a bit! I bought a pair of camo-jeans from Gap earlier in the year, they are small print camo and very dark, greens, browns, blacks! I LOVE them, they always look as you would like them to - dressed up for lunches with heels and black jacket and down for shopping and inbetween for when you are doing both! Love reading your blog!x Yvonne

    I LOVE camo!!!!

I'm the girl (actually far from girl - 46 (and a half!)) with the rolling muffin / skirt waistband issue. I bagged me these babies in FOREVER 21 (yeh right!) for €20.00 (I'm in Dublin).
