Hello sunshine

Everyone happy?

So.  We've got our strappy cami tops to wear.  But an even easier option that that, I would say is the "fling on" summer dress.

Those one piece wonders that you turn to as soon as the sun shines.  Sleeveless, on the loose side, super comfortable to wear and versatile.  Versatility is the name of the game here.  They must go in the washing machine, be easy to wear and roll up into a suitcase.

I would go so far as to say, you could take a couple of swimming cossies and 7 of these and you're done for your hols.  That's virtually hand luggage.  Or take a proper suitcase and think how many pairs of shoes you could take.

That's the other beauty of these.  Flip flops for the pool or beach, sandals for during the day and some heels for night.  In fact, you don't actually need any other summer clothes.  Bar a jacket perhaps.  And I shall be coming to those shortly...

But in the meantime, I am thinking of my best Summer clothes find of the season.  So good I got one in each colour which is something I don't usually do (she says whilst secretly acknowledging that this is a big fat lie but moves swiftly on).

Gathered Scoop Back Dress was £75 now £60

And in the Blue Iris again now £60

Whilst we're on a strapless/no bra roll (I know it's not for everyone and I apologise but carry on scrolling down)... more jersey at hush with the dress versions of the Grecian top that we had yesterday.

The Grecian Dress in Midnight and white was £40 now £25  Can also be belted (comes with a belt)..

A loose slub jersey at The Outnet from Alice & Olivia.  It says that this one is dry clean only but it's polyester and cotton.  There is no way on earth I would even contemplate dry cleaning what is basically a  beach dress... I would definitely just hand wash (ie put in the machine...).

Twist Back slub jersey dress from Alice & Olivia was £140 now £70

Striped at The Outnet again.   And we're back in bra territory.

Holly striped cotton jersey dress from Kain was £135 now £74.25

More stripes, bra friendly but loose enough to throw on with flatties for scorching days or down to the beach.

All Saints was £98 now £49 and an extra 20% off all sale prices with the code EXTRA20

A Breton Midi dress in jersey in the sale now at Me+Em was £78 now £55

Midi Dress in jersey for a complete steal in the Me+Em sale was £78 now £24

Plain but perfect again at All Saints.  With the 20% off, these are a great great buy.  Add sandals for night out.  Flat sandals for day.  The ideal suitcase holiday option.  Or wear to work.  Genius.

All Saints Vela Dress in Cliff Grey Marl was £108 now £75 pre extra discount

And in the black again £75 pre discount.

Other options at hush which would work perfectly are the Panel Maxi Dresses.  Now unlike hush generally, you need to size up in these.  They're tight on the bust in your usual size and I don't even have a bust.   But these you can definitely fit a bra under.

Panel Dress in Blue Iris and Black was £55 now £30

Loose and cotton in an unusual teal colour from Mango.

Blond Long Dress from Mango was £39.99 now £19.99:

Scattered Floral Sleeveless Midi Dress from Warehouse £45

And also available in the white - love this £45

Another waisted but still loose printed dress from Warehouse.

Butterfly Print Midi Dress from Warehouse £55

White again and a lovely linen fabric at Me+Em (the end of their sales are simply superb.  Bargains galore).  Can be worn with or without the tie.

Tunic Dress Linen White was £78 now £23

And in the navy, without the tie (although you do get one with it).

Tunic Dress Linen in Navy was £79 now £38

Definitely one for super super hot (and bra less) days.

Embroidered Long Dress from Mango was £79.99 now £23.99

So there we have some options which we could all do with this week and hopefully will be wearing day in day out until October... (she says optimistically).

And seeing as I'm so hopeful of this, I am now on a Summer roll.  I haven't completely forgotten about Autumn and am salivating over the new season emails that are arriving in my inbox with alarming regularity but I am now chomping at the dregs of the sales to see what Summer bargains we can procure.

Speaking of which, here I am in one of mine from last year.  A morning at home in the garden with the family (Game of Life with croissants and coffee anyone?) before heading off to an Inflatables party at the local swimming pool that I'd organised for the year 6 leavers at school, followed by dinner for them all in Pizza Express.

Tropical print dress - & Other Stories
Tan gladiator sandals - Aldo
Whiskey Medium Marcie Satchel - Chloe

And last night in my new Rixo London dress which I ummed and ahhed about what to do with it but I did get it shortened to a midi and LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  Lovely friend's 50th birthday party.  And I have to say, so far 50th's are proving to be as superb if not more superb than 40ths!

Animal print silk Issy dress - Rixo London
Leopard print strappy sandals - Zara
Tan De Manta Clutch - Alexander McQueen

So we've done throw on longer dresses but actually when it gets this warm, I think legs out - even with Les Dawson appendages as knees - are completely acceptable.

But I do also appreciate that not everyone wants to get their arms out so the dress I have on today from & Other Stories above, is what lots of people consider to be the perfect Summer frock.  As useful as a longer sleeveless one.  So I'll be back with more of these (bargains only!) shortly.

I am now in dire need of a glass of wine after four hours with 28 11 yr olds.  Yet again my admiration for teachers has once again increased (and our new completely fabulous Head teacher gave up her Sunday afternoon to come and help us!!  Oh how I love her.)

Barbie's on, red wine is poured, Summer has arrived.  Hope everyone else has had a great weekend.

  1. I have the black and nude chevron dress from Hush and wore it in Mexico! Love it, looking forward to wearing it more but the beauty of dresses like these is they last for years and don't go out of fashion so they get to go on lots of holidays and day trips .... So worth their money! Highly recommend... Also loving the striped ones. I'm also loving my day dresses from Boden this season, they are sleeveless but not strappy so offer a bit more coverage, and the chance to wear a bra for the bustier ladies out there!

    1. Nail on the head - these are the sorts of dresses that you have in your "summer holiday" wardrobe for years and years and years. They're perfect for super warm weather year after year. They just do what they say on the tin. They're not *fashionable* as such - just super functional and versatile. x

  2. There are some absolute crackers in the dress selection - I love a good dress; no matching, no waistline issues and no top/bottom issues!! But the star of the show is definitely the shortened Rixo London dress - you look fab!

    1. I forget how easy they are until I put them and think - I should just have a whole wardrobe of these!

  3. Definitely the right decision to get your Rixo dress shortened, looks great with those sandals too.
