Pleats please
I acknowledge the weather is getting better.
I also acknowledge that I need zip all else summer wise. Ok famous last words. Today I don't need anything summer wise. I even went shopping today. A lovely treat day with two of my closest friends to the Ashford Designer Outlet. And bought NOTHING for me. The husband did really well in Ralph Lauren (although whether I can persuade him to wear linen shirts and white shorts is a conversation I've yet to have... One Euro Husband coming up..!) and I got the boys a lovely outfit each from Gap.
I did though receive my order from H&M and a massive FAIL on the sandal front. But I did completely luck out on a pair of boots. And a skirt. Oh the skirt front this is the most favourite thing I have had in forever.
Which, after the massive boob on the midi skirt front the other week - the Mango leopard print skirt that promised to be great and was a whole lot of disappointment in the flesh, was such a lovely surprise.
So following the plethora of sales disasters I've something positive to report back on. Not in the sale but just amazing.
Oh hello midi skirt you gorgeous thing you.
Embroidered Skirt £59.99 from H&M (I've signed up for another email and re-ordered it with 25% off. Oh I've sized up too. Actually I've sized up twice as whilst the 12 *does* fit, I think I'd like it larger on the waist... as it's rather tight. Tight as in breathing may be an issue after a meal).
However this wasn't really what I was looking for. I am after a metallic skirt. A pleated one. A long pleated one.
For me - this is too short but new season, this is what we're going to be wearing come the Autumn.
Etoile Isabel Marant Pleated Lame Skirt £245
Which made me think of the M&S one I found on the Gucci thread the other day. Oh my.
Metallic Effect Pleated Skirt from M&S was £35 now £16
And upping the budget again but OMG I love this.
BCBG MacxAzria Dallin Maxi Skirt in Gold Metallic Pleat £280
Or the Christopher Kane Lame Skirt £595 (how fab is the M&S one looking now?)
Other options which we can buy now, wear now and revel in come Autumn. Perfect with strappy sandals for evening in the Summer (seeing as the sun has finally made an appearance), glads for during the day or ankle boots if you're still sandal shy like me.
Floral Midi Skirt at Topshop £35
Floral Midi at ASOS. This is probably the most summery of all the skirts. But I would still happily wear with black leather biker. Or grey... ? Perfect for now and into the Autumn.
ASOS Pleated Midi Floral Skirt £38
Printed again at Boohoo. Lovely lovely and bang on trend stars.
Azure Star Print Pleated Midi Skirt £16
I can sneak this one in as apparently it's pleated... not my definition of pleated but it certainly does come under the heading of *want*.
Tailored Fit Leather Full Pleated Skirt from M&S £199
However skirt of the day (apart from the embroidered one) goes to the ASOS Velvet skirt in grey. Oh simply wow dot com.
ASOS Pleated Midi Velvet Skirt £38
Have you mastered the skirt yet? I still do have an issue with having no waist and so I need to significantly size up. Being tall, length is also a problem but when it's right, it's very right.
I *may* have also snagged THE perfect pair of Autumn boots. Or a 2016 Summer pair of boots... I will be back with them. Suffice to say it's not Gucci that's won me over this time but inspiration has come from the Chloe camp.
Speaking of inspiration, remember my maxi dress thread and the M&S dress I thought was like the Ulla Johnson one. I thought the yellow faux leather jacket got lots of comments but this has gone down a storm today. For less than £30. Beyond pleased.
Red dress - M&S
Tan sandals - Forever21
Whiskey Medium Marcie Satchel - Chlow
Night in tonight - off to watch Everest with the family. Late one but in my head it's already the end of term (which will come back and bite me on the bum on Monday morning...!)
And no one is *actually* interested in a boot blog are they?! (they're a semi shoe boot thing if that helps me persuade you...)
I picked up a dusky pink metallic pleated midi in a Next Clearance store last week for the sum of £3.00! My mum just glared at me in a horrified look. Oh how I'm glad I ignored that look! I knew I would wear it with Stan Smiths and a grey t or sweatshirt but was wondering how to wear it on an evening for my holidays without it looking like an dare I say it "old woman". Now I think I'll just pair it with a black cami and black lace up sandals as above. Once again thanks for the inspo. Oh and by the way can't wait for the next boot instalment - you can never have too many xx
ReplyDeleteOh that's amazing and reminds me, I need to check out the Next sale online. At the very least, need to stock up on tees for the boys. Thanks!
DeleteYour red dress is gorgeous, and styled to perfection, I remember looking at the image and not really getting it, shows that sometimes you need to see things styled properly!
ReplyDeleteOutlet visits went okay, mainly on the sock front! I hate wearing shoes with bare feet and have finely found some socklets that I can't see with lower cut shoes. These are really low enough even on my size 4 feet.

I also bagged a very paired back silk long sleeved t-shirt in turquoise for about a third of the price. And I started my Christmas shopping (I bourght a nutmeg grater for us, and thought that my sister would like one too)!
My husband did better than me, he bourght two pairs of (running) shoes and a shirt.
My only other purchase wasn't outlet, but a full price red uniqlo merino sweater, which is fine enough to wear on chilly summer days!

Oh thank you so much. Sometimes, these things work and sometimes they don't. I have tried so so SO many dresses on that look truly horrendous - you can't say I'm not dedicated. But they are SO easy to wear. I shall be living in them all Summer now.
DeleteYour outlet visit sounds much more successful than mine! And yes, the Uniqlo sweaters are the best out there for the price, of that there is no doubt.
I picked up a rose gold .Etal lucyturner99@yahoo.co.uk pleated skirt the other week. Tucked in the back of my wardrobe until I can find a grey cashmere jumper x
ReplyDeleteFrom where??! It sounds absolutely amazing.. need to know..!

ReplyDeleteLovely colour combo, I wear my rose gold silk blouse with pale grey trousers, get positive feed back every time.
DeleteDanish Pastry
Yup . Rose gold and pale grey sounds divine.
DeleteGood grief you've done the impossible with that M&S dress, I thought it was heinous on their site (no surprise there) but you've worked your magic and turned it into something covert worthy. Astonishing!
ReplyDeleteSkirts loved me when I was 22, not so much at 42...
'Covet', obviously, lol
DeleteOh you're kind, thank you! I actually find it easier to wear a skirt the older I get which is strange..!
DeleteLove a few of those skirts, saw the ASOS velvet one online the other day and think I need to investigate. The leather M&S one looks lushbut, but I saw the metallic one yesterday and did not like it at all.
ReplyDeleteOh that's such a shame - the M&S metallic one has had great reviews. It's too short for me but I know it looks amazing on others. The velvet one however... how perfect?!
DeleteOh I so wanted to love the M&S skirt - it was such a bargain, but it was too short on me and I'm not sure that pleats and being slightly erm curvy on the hips go together. I looked like one of those Christmas decorations that kind of concertina out into a ball. Urgh.
ReplyDeleteOh bummer! I know it would be too short for me too... so I didn't even bother trying it. Let's bypass metallic and go straight to velvet??!
DeleteGoing back in time a bit! The yellow essentiel jumper you tried in quatroish is on sale. I loved it on you! Was it soft (I hate scratchy). I havee been lusting after it and it in sale. It looks enormous the way it is styled but looked lovely on you.
ReplyDeleteAHA that is the most amazing jumper ever. I know it sold out in Quattro Rish really quickly (nothing to do with the rubbish Spring/Summer we ha..!) I didn't think it was that scratchy at all and anyway - because of the nature of the big knit, you'd need to wear a vest or top under it anyway. Would be perfect for Autumn or for cooler Summer nights. I'm sure I had the Medium.. it is an oversized jumper to begin with. Hope that helps x
DeleteGoing to hit buy!! Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteHope you love it. Looks amazing with khaki xxx
