It started with...
...a pair of boots. And from there, the need for navy has grown.
So yes, I am obviously a black obsessive - my staple question for when I see something that I love is "does it come in black?".
But maybe it's an age thing, maybe it's the need for a change up, maybe it's just the boots, but I am having a pang for navy.
There is no arguing that, as a shade, it is more flattering for mature skin than black. Is it possible to find things in navy that I love as much I adore their black counterparts?
A quick (ha ha, yeah right) foray into Pinterest throws up some gems and proves I'm on the right path.
For a start - it is THE perfect partner to denim.
And with black...
And simply head to foot in navy. I need no more persuading that this is Very Good Idea.
The quest is on. But first of all, I should show you the boots.
I know I say this a lot, but every now and again you come across an item that you LOVE. You don't just like, you adore.
I have come back to these boots time and time again and they just get better every time I look at them. I agree they're not going to be for everyone but I love them. And yes, there is white on them which means they're not ALL navy but I think they just work.
All vom NOW.
Andi Multi Buckle Boots from Topshop £82
So what goes with these? Why all things navy. Starting off with knitwear. And my favourite crew neck, classic jumper. Men's extra fine merino from Uniqlo. A small is a big 10. You're welcome. These are simply the best.
Men Extra Fine Merino Sweater from Uniqlo £29.90
And straight into the ultimate shape for me - the polo neck.
Cable Knit Polo from Topshop £65
Longer polo neck.
Ribbed Roll Neck Jumper from Topshop £36
Navy Raglan Hoodie £26 from Topshop. This looks so, so much more expensive than it actually is.

Or how about a blouse. With the addition of a black tie so it's a no brainer to just throw on with all your favourite black outfits.
Levine Forever Blouse from Finery £59

A bottoms option.
Ness Navy Wraparound Skirt in Navy from Finery £99
And navy harems. NEW IN. Be still my beating suddenly navy obsessed heart.

Brook Relaxed Pants in Blue were £95 now £47
My beloved leather leggings.. in NAVY!.
Liv Leather Leggings from Baukjen £399 (if you sign up their newsletter, I think you can get 15% off your first order... it comes up as a pop when you first click onto their site).
Not forgetting my beloved dresses.
Cochrane Dark Navy Draped Dress from Finery £79
Finally up clothes wise - coats. I actually love a navy coat. It's the one thing I possibly have more of than black ones (ok maybe not....).
I will come back to the coats as I have found so many, they deserve a blog all of their own. It's pure coat porn out there, I promise you this. Must be done soon as they sell out and often aren't repeated. I kid you not. It was pitch black at 7.15pm tonight. Winter is coming... (and yes, I've obviously got some Jon Snow style ones up my sleeve. In my dreams I do actually live in Game of Thrones - and fess up who else does, as I know I'm not the only one).
Christie Coat from hush £170
And other shoes which are definitely worth looking at. If it's not an ankle boot then it's got to be a trainer. Hi top adoration here.
All Star Hi Trainers by Converse £47.99
Not forgetting these ankle boots which are simply a thing of lust.
Gaskell Laced Sock Boot £135
So have I been wearing all things navy? Hmm no. Because I don't actually have a lot. I will be remedying that but in the meantime, this is what I have been wearing over the last couple of days.
Apologies for not being around - family life has definitely got in the way of blogging, not to mention work. I had two fantastic days on Monday and Tuesday with Celtic & Co, talking through my favourite pieces from their new A/W17 collection.
Monday at Pennyhill Park. Yes it was pouring with rain when I left the house at 8.15am.

And then a quick change in the train loo on the way back to London as last night, I was invited to the launch of Red Magazine's Smart Women Week and their Career Shifters party. As I had been selected as one of their Career Shifters. See the whole article here, but suffice to say, I am ridiculously honoured and flattered to be included in such an illustrious list. So I did treat myself to the Ganni dress for the occasion. It will also be my Christmas party dress - so get used to it!

Today, I have had a lovely morning with The Brand Ambassador's Agency at my favourite boutique - Quattro Rish in Reigate and then it was off to Chiswick for a tour of the Sipsmith Gin Distillery. Which was superb. I am now all the glamour in my jamas (hush harems which I now NEED in the navy..), with a takeaway (treat Wednesday), catching up on Bake Off. I've already done Dr Foster (errr how weird?? What planet do those people live on?) and am doing an excellent job of distracting myself to not think about how the 10yr old is coping on his residential.
Tomorrow, I've got some work to do in the morning and then it's off for a super treat. I will reveal all on my Insta stories but suffice to say, I am giddy with excitement.
In the meantime though - more work needed on the navy coat front. So is this the blog of dreams for you with the "nothing but navy" theme? Or are you a "does it come in black", dyed in the wool afficionado?
Love those boots! Navy is a staple in my wardrobe - blazer and Breton top and converse in summer and with camel/ tan, gray or burgundy through autumn/winter. I can tamale black or navy or sometimes both if I really love the style.
ReplyDeleteOMG HOW amazing would a breton look with those boots from Topshop. Ok so now I NEED them!!!!!
DeleteI am really tempted by those black Chelsea boots but have very wide feet - how are they width-wise?
ReplyDeleteNOW! I had to size down in them as they were huge on me so I would say if you just take your own size, they'll be fine xxx
DeleteNavy is so much more flattering than black. I'm after suede low heeled ankle boots. Can I find any I like? Nah ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm on it...
DeleteM&S have some new ones in this year. I bought some navy suede slouchy ones last year and they work with lots of things. Worth having a look on their site.
DeleteM & S have got lots in. Bought some myself last year and they are very versatile.
DeleteI was thinking the same thing. The navy footwear blog is coming along nicely!
DeleteHa!! I am definitely a "does it come in black" girl. Whilst reading your blog I realised that apart from jeans, I don't own anything navy. It always felt to "corporate/business-like" for me. Maybe it's time for me to change that starting with the Hush love jumper ;-)
ReplyDeleteLet's do it!
DeleteOh my giddy aunt - I feel as though I should pin this entire blog. EVERYTHING you have listed, all the pictures from Pinterest and your fantastic outfits make me want to burn everything in my wardrobe and start again. Think I'll start with the navy sock boots and move onto the Ganni dress. Too much loveliness.
ReplyDeleteNavy and leopard together are gorgeous....
DeleteAs someone who thinks denim and black looks awful, navy is a must in my wardrobe. But navy footwear is as scarce as hen's teeth.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should do a blog on nothing but navy footwear??!
DeleteJust bought navy boots from Jigsaw and M&S. Jigsaw ones particularly lovely!:)
DeleteYes!! I am starting to come round to getting more navy in my wardrobe. On reflection I've realised I don't own much navy because I don't know what colour shoes to wear with it. What colour shoes best go with navy? Particularly for wearing navy in a smart business casual work enviro?
ReplyDeleteAHA!! See above - navy footwear is the obvious choice but it's hard to find. Leave it with me..
DeleteHAving said that - I would definitely wear red loafers, white trainers or even black. But I'm on the navy project, fear not!
Thank you!! I'd love to inject more navy into my workwear to stop me looking dead at work haha. I look forward to more navy friendly footwear recommendations! :)
DeleteNavy with leopard, navy with pale grey, navy with khaki green, navy with camel, navy with cream... finally got into navy in a big way last year and it feels like a whole new world has opened up!
DeleteI can't WAIT to dig in!
DeleteI must start with saying I think you look great in all black, that outfit from the other day is amazing on you!
ReplyDeleteMe on the other hand, I look washed out and feel horrible in all black, so I am a navy girl through and through! I was all for navy and black in my teens, bug went off navy, as not all navy's match each other. I spent my teens 'trying' to like black until i saw the light part way through my thirties.
Navy's a no brainer with denim, and is great with all shades of blue, not to mention red and pink! The colour combination that took me longest to get my head around though, was navy and black - I get the feeling someone once told me that this a no go, but then I started seeing it all over the place, and slowly I was converted. I have a few items that have both navy and black in them - two scarves in particular are great at making an outfit look deliberate rather just putting on what didn't need washing!
It is more difficult buying navy, but it is so worth it! I may have fallen for those sock boots, they have detail (I'm all for texture and contrast in a monochrome outfit) and a block heel (I'd only twist my ankle in kitten or stiletto type heel!). So maybe they will be a new addition to my growing navy shoe collection!
Those boots are completely amazing aren't they? Although personally I would definitely get the TS ones!
DeleteJust bought those Topshop boos yesterday, in navy AND black!
ReplyDeleteDid you get them half price??! They're HALF PRICE now! I had to stop myself pressing on the beige and black ones...
DeleteWhen I was at school I worked in Boots. Starting out in a very attractive blue with orange trim polyester dress and when the new shop opened a navy skirt and white and navy blouse. I always wore navy shoes. (There's a reason you don't get many navy shoes - they don't often work unless you want to look like you work in a bank!) And I don't think I owned anything navy after that until about a year ago when my sister turned up looking sheepish in a navy cardigan - oh, how we laughed. And then went navy shopping. I have quite a lot now although I still find footwear a problem in the winter but I'm getting there! It does go with everything and is good for my aging face and often looks classier and more expensive than black! My mother always told me not to wear black near my face when I was old - not sure what she considered old right enough! Black is still my default though. It matches the grey Scottish drizzle better ;-) xx
ReplyDeleteNavy leather is notoriously difficult to make look good apparently. And funny you should say that about the uniform. My school uniform was bottle green and red and it's only recently I've been able to touch it again. Gucci may have helped...!!
DeleteI am looking for decent navy boots I don't want cheap cheap as I wear stuff for years! I ordered those navy velvet sock boots from m+s awful..........
ReplyDeletefairy
Oh they're definitely not going to last for every but they're lovely for a special event. Yes, if you want things are going to last for years, it does pay to invest, for sure. I got velvet boots from Penelope Chilvers last year and they look exactly the same as the day I bought them and I wore them loads. x
DeleteLOVE navy! Definitely in the market for a navy coat. And congratulations on the Red Career Shifters thing...great news, well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you xxx
DeleteYou looked totally gorgeous at the events Kat. You really rocked the Celtic look! It's amazing too the demand for navy, especially footwear. Our customer favourites are our navy Suede High Tops, leather Tassel Loafers and our robust Wilderness boots (cue the Lara croft look!):

And I can totally testify to how fabulously comfortable your boots are! These are all perfect for the navy shoe blog, thank you xxx
DeleteI'm a recent navy convert. I've found that with my fair skin and blonde (greying) hair, navy is that bit kinder than black and doesn't make me look as washed out. I am off to go hunt that UNIQLO jumper though - total bargain.
ReplyDeleteTheir jumpers are THE best. xx
DeleteI've always loved tan bags and boots with a navy base such as a coat or dress/skirt/jacket. The tan just looks so classy against the navy....although those navy sock boots are just gorgeous.......
ReplyDeleteLove tan with navy - gorgeous. x
DeleteFor some reason I cannot paste the link but honestly look no further than the navy suede Annie Bing bianca boots with silver hardware and the perfect heel height. Swoon, swoon. Oh to be rich but I guess there's someone out there who have €600 to spend on boots. Liz
ReplyDeleteOh lordy I'm going to go and have a look...
DeleteI love a bit of navy too, like Amanda, I think it’s great with tan accessories. I’ve also only just got my head around navy and black together. I keep going back to those boots at TS not sure whether I love them or hate them, but I do know my fashion judging family would laugh and laugh until eventually my teenage daughter will love them and steal them - ultimate compliment perhaps?!
ReplyDeleteLove your Celtic and Co outfit - right up my street, off to look at their website now!! X
They're half price now if it helps... I think the navy makes them look less full on fashion and just a "bit edgy"?!! (I haven't tried them on yet but they're winging their way to me tomorrow x)
DeleteThank you! (and there is now a sale on at Topshop.. just saying...!!)
ReplyDeleteHave put in my order for those boots (at half price? A no brained!) today... Husband was suitably sniffy about them, but at least agreed to collect them from store for me when they're in... 😃
ReplyDeleteWHOOOP! I couldn't wait and treated myself to next day delivery (ie tomorrow as I ordere them yesterday!)
