Today it's the biker. There is no other reason for this post except for the fact I love them. And seem to keep acquiring them. I did start off writing this article thinking I can't put them into the "obsessed" category as I don't feel the need to keep buying. But then I realised I do. Without a shadow of a doubt, these have become a complete wardrobe staple for me. In different colours, both faux and real leather and in slightly different styles. I have two black, brown, navy and yellow. I fear that it may have tipped into obsessed territory.
For anyone taking stock, my burgundy one is definitely a bomber jacket. It is the only one I own, for the record.
Biker jackets also head up the list of things which I have the most requests to blog about. Therefore I do write about it pretty often as they come and go.
And the best thing these days, is that you don't have to spend a lot. I have a mix of leather and faux versions and these days - the latter can be exceptional.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing more luxurious than a buttery soft leather jacket that just looks better with age. However for a pick me up, an instant wardrobe lifter, a cheeky faux bargain is a winner. And with maxi and midi dresses and skirts going nowhere for next season, this a jacket you need. Not to mention wide leg trousers - be them long or cropped - set to be in full flow in the coming months, the biker is the perfect compliment to pretty much, any outfit.
Alas my beloved Onyx jacket from hush is sold out but I do know that they're doing another version in their transitional range which is launching in the next couple of weeks (I'm trying to see from the pics I've been sent if it's navy... praying that they do a navy one.... but I think it's black Which is great for those of you who don't have black - not so great for me, already having a black one).
Starting with the faux gems - some sales bargains but some new in. Main thing they have in common is that they will sell out. I have two from Zara - a yellow and a studded one that was a total impulse buy that I have worn and worn and worn since getting it in December. Currently sold out as I press publish though (not doing very well at this, am I?)
But there are others that are in stock that I would happily wear and the first bargain of the day goes to Mango.
Zipped Biker Jacket from Mango in black was £39.99 now £29.99
Can highly recommend these from M&S - amazing fit, great quality.
Faux Leather Stitch Detail Biker Jacket from M&S in tan £55
And in the black.
For those who find leather too harsh, there's always the faux suede to consider.
Faux suede biker jacket R Studio at La Redoute £49
Or the petrol blue. Love this shade was £49 now £29.40
Adore this one - khaki, my favourite newly discovered neutral.
Khaki Suedette Biker Jacket from New Look £39.99
And in the dark grey suedette again £39.99
But in the sale there are some leather bargains to be had.
Starting with La Redoute. Adore the styling of this - one for Spring for me, for sure.
Leather Biker Jacket R Studio was £185 now £92.50
And the tan version which is now £110 Love this colour.
And this collar is just sublime. It can be worn fitted or open (duh - like all bikers. I'll get my coat).
And the grey which is has 60% off and is down to £79.60
Black again with a slightly more pared back look. Definitely less *biker* and more of a clean cut shape to it.
Leather Biker Jacket R Studio in black from La Redoute was £225 now £112.50
Another classic shape at ASOS for a bargain price. And in brown. I have had a brown biker jacket from AllSaints for about eight years now and it comes out every single year. A super useful colour which does in fact, go with everything.
ASOS Leather Biker Jacket with Stitch Detail was £140 now £56
And the bargains at ASOS keep on coming. More black.
ASOS Leather BIker Jacket with Zip Detail was £150 now £60
Oxblood Red from AllSaints £380 now £266 with an extra 20% off Sale items with the code January.
And finishing with two randoms which I am trying so so hard not to press buy on... leopard. I could possibly say that the one obsession I have which usurps all others is that of leopard. When I was in Harvey Nichols there was an Isabel Marant pony skin leopard biker that had 80% off. It was still scarily expensive. And (handily) it was also way too small.
However this one... from AllSaints so an extra 20% off with the code January.
Harnett Suede Biker Jacket was £380 now £266 Did I mention it's my birthday at the end of the month?!
Or there's the Mango version was £69.99 now £39.99
And another look.... if it were £29.99 I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Maybe I'll order it? In the interests of research? Would anyone like me to order it to *see*?!
Ok now I'm officially not looking at any more as I do still have bomber jackets to check out too. So which B are you? Bomber or Biker? And I haven't even looked at oversized jackets yet - just the fitted versions. Oh, you can see how it's easy to become obsessed. So far, we've done white trainers, ankle boots (which I feel, with hindsight, is a rather all encompassing subject to be fair) and biker jackets. Surely there can't be that many more? Anyone want to hazard a guess at what else will make the list? It's certainly not flat sandals (jeez, check out the clutching at straws statement).
And here I am in mine yesterday.
Midi Dress - Autograph at M&S
Stud faux leather biker - Zara
Mario bag - Jerome Dreyfuss
Peep toe leather wedge sock boots - Rick Owens
No doubt I will be wearing one tomorrow and maybe I'll get the legs out again. A day of research and then writing. Am sure I'll come back inspired...
I bought the "Leather Biker Jacket R Studio in black from La Redoute was £225 now £112.50" one just before Christmas when they had 40% off (making it £108 I think) and it is really lovely. Just enough biker to make it absolutely perfect. Quality of leather is really good too. I ordered a 12 and they sent me a 10, which happened to another person who left a review, but the size is absolutely perfect. I can now ditch my very old M&S bomber that is much too small around the chest area, hooray! Jo
ReplyDeleteOh that is such great news! So so pleased to hear that!
DeleteI have a very soft bikers from Esprit, as I am vertically challenged the sleeves were predictably too long, so I had them shortened. They have zips at the sleeves and my clever seamstress shortened those as well.
ReplyDeleteI did have a red one which I bourght in my twenties, and haven't worn that much recently, probably because the leather is as stiff as a board compared with my navy Esprit one - heck it only cost about £30!
As I've said before, I am in awe of your seamstress!

Forgot to say I wouldn't mind one with quilting on the sleeves, just don't know what colour! Maybe a colour will present itself to me one day!
ReplyDeleteNavy, burgundy or tan..??!
DeleteMy current biker is navy, so maybe burgundy....tan would also be great....
DeleteI think I'll keep my mind open and see what appeals. I must say that my navy biker and other navy jackets receive way much more wear than my 'statement' jackets, that should tell me something about my preferences. So if I go more of a statement colour then I need to go super classic.

I agree... although having said that, I've just bought a leopard one!!! But to me - that's a neutral...
DeleteI love that leopard one but I think my failure to look good in a biker jacket is well documented. Been looking at those La Redoute trousers though. Can't decide whether they are the wide leg trousers or the straight cut wide leg trousers. Guess I'll need to order both to find out!
ReplyDeleteThey're amazing aren't they? Wide leg trousers, white trainers are my fave look at the mo (once it stops blooming raining...)
DeleteNoooo - you have the answer to my 'need a new jacket I can wear to work but isn't dull - needs to work with lots of black and jeans'....both leopard prints sold out in my size and having just seen your insta post on the Zara one and then read your blog 3 mins later was clear these jackets (or at least one of them) had my name on it. On a mission now. Hate bombers and share your love of bikers btw (just in case relevant).
ReplyDeleteOh GAWD good luck. I did hate bombers and I have to say I'm still not a fan for me, of the silky numbers but a tiny fitted leather one is DEFINiTELY worth considering (only because I happened to try one on and it looked amazing!!!)
DeleteNot a fan of bombers myself ..... but love the bikers.... leopard looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteI managed to snag a leopard one in Zara today - they've been sold out for ages and I spied one on a rail of returned goods which was in my size!! Well.. I'm usually a medium and it fits on the body and the shoulders but the sleeves are sooo tight. Needs must though!!
DeleteIs it the lining that is tight, or is it the actually sleeve? I have gears of people slitting the linning (being careful not to cut the outer layer), to give a little more room. Not sure when her or not it's a tak too drastic though!
DeleteThat should have read 'not sure whether or not it's a tad too drastic '! Spell check on a danish phone is not good when writing english!
DeleteMy mission this year is to either find a biker that I feel comfortable in or give up and stick with leather / Suede bombers which I know I suit. I've tried a couple of black bikers ( incl Hush) and the lapels felt too big, felt like an extra from Grease! Any tips?! You always look fabulous in your biker, I confess to biker wearing envy!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely go for a collarless one... not sure if there's one above. OR OR OR try a bomber. Now don't laugh -I wouldn't have ever thought one could work BUT, they're less voluminous than a biker and in leather and suede are a great biker alternative x
DeleteThanks Kat, I think I need to take myself to the shops with that 1 mission. It's not easy to do it online when you don't know quite what you're looking for or have a good idea about size x
