All about Clutch Bags

So here we have my first item I can't live without - a clutch bag.  Actually I have three that are worth their weight in gold.  None of them were particularly cheap but they have definitely paid for themselves over the years.  I have a print one (Michael Kors grey snakeskin), a tan one (Alexander McQueen De Manta) and a black one (Tory Burch) - all of which get regular outings in photos on here.

With that colour combo, it seems to cover all the bases throughout the year.  So actually it would be one of those things that I think is worth spending that little bit more on.  Certainly I get a lot of use out of mine - at least once a week, if not more.  Plus it seems to be this season that the clutch continues to be oversized and so could work during the day.  Therefore harking back to my perchance overused phrase, cost per wear - definitely a purchase that I think it's really easy to justify.

Having said that, there is something to be said for a sneaky injection of something new into the wardrobe that isn't too expensive and can be a one season wonder.

Starting with a shot of colour.  If, like me, you do plan on keeping all things dark and moody this A/W then this will add the right amount of sunshine to any outfit.  Cunningly I don't have a bright coloured one in my arsenal of clutch bags - handy that hey?

Oversized Clutch bag - John Lewis  £39

Stunning animal print one from M&S   Autograph Leather Slouch clutch bag - £89  They will also be doing this in a tan leopard print but I don't think it's available online yet.  Have to say, I think this one is slightly more unusual and would be my pick.

Staying with all things animal, this pony skin mink leather bag from Next is a steal at under £40

More animal print from Mint Velvet - £89.  This is absolutely stunning in the flesh.

As is this one in grey snakeskin, also from Mint Velvet -£79

Two tone leather from Whistles would be super useful. £150.  For day and night actually.

I also love it in the black textured leather on black.  Stevie Double Croc Clutch  again £150

Staying with the two tone - this monochrome number from Next is a bargain at £38

If oxblood is going to be your colour of choice this season, another leather fold over one from John Lewis.  Mistry Clutch handbag £49

I'm not sure I should actually like this and to be honest I would probably prefer it without the beading - maybe I'm being too picky.  Reminds me of a significantly more expensive Angel Jackson one I saw in The Boutique Gallery in Jaeger on Regent Street last season.

Collection by John Lewis Hilary Stitched Clutch handbag - £59 leather.

A much cheaper (non leather) version can be found at H&M.  Love the addition of the tassel. £14.99

Speaking of Angel Jackson, these are a true bargain.

Large foldover clutch in Mint Grey Snakeskin - now only £115

Again, if you fancy an injection of colour, this Chartreuse Yellow large foldover clutch is a steal at now only £115 in genuine snakeskin.  I'm having to sit on my hands not to press Add to Cart on this one.  Definitely my favourite out of the bunch.

Couldn't not put a classic black patent one on and a true designer bargain, again from Angel Jackson.  This is something you would have in your wardrobe for years.  And not that much more expensive than a high street one.  PLEASE can someone buy it!

Patent Pria folding clutch bag - £122

Oh and a final one as I love the classic shape, the use of nappa leather (yum, can you imagine) but the slightly quirky puffa style.  My last bargain from Angel Jackson.

The Amaro Luxe Foldover Clutch in Black - now £115

Another investment piece would be this from Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Tangram Leather Clutch Anna Bag - £225

Now this one is a smaller one but is in the sale (there are some bargains still around) and if one is organised enough to think forward to the Christmas (I said it I said it - kill me now) season, this will be perfect for every occasion.  Handily it would work all year round though as it's not too bling.  But dressy enough.  Pretty perfect in every way (although I do normally need bigger as I am incapable of leaving the house without an inordinate amount of shite)

Black Invitation Palace Bag from Hobbs - now only £49 - half price!

I think I've nearly talked myself into the leopard print one... £69

But actually I think I prefer this.  Another smaller one - this Tortoiseshell one from M&S - a complete bargain at £29.50   If the quality of this is anything like the similar version they did in the Summer, it's definitely worth looking at.

Finishing with a bit of bling - this one from Coast has just the right amount for an evening bag but not too much that you couldn't take this to the pub in jeans, t-shirt and casual blazer.

Felicia clutch from Coast for a mere £55

So are you in the market for a clutch bag?  Lots of these actually have straps as well so, to all intents and purposes aren't truly clutch bags but all are definitely covetable.

Enjoying the sunshine this week - no bag as I spent two days at a pool with the kids.  Soaking up hopefully not the end of the sunshine.

  1. I love a clutch on others, but have never mastered the art of a day clutch myself. I have a giant purse that is bigger than most clutches and if I can't put it on my arm,I am sure I would leave somewhere. For night, this is less of an issue as I have tiny ones that an sit in front of me on the table, however crushed the gathering!

  2. Hi! I can forget the black clutch because I am lusting over that leather jacket the model is wearing... Squeal! Love the mink clutch - and from next, totes bargs! Yes, I did just use that phrase and, yessss I should know better. Oxblood... Love that colour - I refer to it as maroon but I'm trying to term it as oxblood. Great great colour for A/W and will be injecting that colour into my ever expanding wardrobe with that clutch, big wraparound scarves and wrist warmers, and snoods. Lovely. I can't wait for it to get cold! Thanks for all your hard work with this blog, thoroughly enjoying reading it. I never read blogs but I'm staying faithful to yours lol! I don't know how to make myself show up as a follower with my name or anything, even though I live with the Midlands answer to bill gates I won't ask him! Ha. Carrie xx

  3. Same here re a Clutch Bag for daywear.. no can do. Bar it's at a wedding/function and I pretty much only need a lipstick, phone and money. Tiny ones also are a little no can do for me - too small and too easily lost.... hmmmm. Not the bag's fault, granted.

Loving that one from Next... gorgeous. But my pick of the bunch is that Grey Snakeskin from Mint Velvet. Drool! Loving the Oxblood (why do I call it burgundy?) If I had a birthday coming up and someone who wanted to buy me one (I do have a birthday coming up but no bloody "one" offering to buy me one) I'd go for the Marc Jacobs one. Bloody orgasmic! Divine. I can't stop looking at it.

The patent one is fabulous. JUST fab!! It's coming up as out of stock but I will hunt it down. It's totally a bag that you could have for years. And years. Just don't lose it or lend it to anyone :-)

Loving these last two blogs. I'm off to a 40th birthday party (mmmm, I'm only 37, surely a tad too young to be invited, no?) this evening so I'd better go root something out. Given that it's raining and miserable it might be a challenge. I'd planned on wearing a summer dress.. grrr..
