It's shoe time

Now I haven't cheated.  I have been chuntering on about brogues for forever and so when the lovely ladies at Seven Boot Lane asked if I'd like to try a pair of their new suede ones, clearly it would have been rude not to.

For the summer, these are exactly what I had in mind.  As much as I do love the more traditional leather ones, to wear with bare feet (currently sporting very attractive pop socks, my only irritation with which is that they appear to be verging on cutting off the circulation to the lower part of my legs.  Which is concerning and rather painful) I wanted something slightly less robust.

These newly released suede brogues are perfect.  The ideal shade of mouse grey which goes with absolutely everything - perfect for now with dark colours (I loved wearing them today with black and looking forward to teaming with navy) and even better with a light tan and summer whites.

There are actually very few more delicate suede ones around, so I'm delighted with my gift.  The fact they go incredibly well with my Anya bag is also a total billy bonus (sorry Jenna - the matchy matchy still makes me very happy - I shall never be a proper disciple)

And to top it all, they are super comfortable.  As much as I love my heels, there is something to be said about a deliciously easy to wear pair of flats.  I chose the grey pair (which, as you can see, is definitely a minky grey as opposed to a dove grey - for me more useful as it can go with shades of grey and shades of camel) but it was definitely a close run thing between these and the rust version.  I thought for the summer, I'd get more wear out of a lighter shade.

Flat Oxford Lace up brogue from Seven Boot Lane £100

They have also hugely kindly, given a discount code which can be used against any boots or shoes on their site.  The code gives 10% off and is DMBSS14.  There are some really beautiful shoes and boots on there - they have done an exclusive pair of boots for Anthropologie to give you an idea of the style and the quality.  In fact, an ankle boots blog is probably well overdue.  I shall be working on one of those next week.  The code lasts till the end of March but the shoes are limited in some sizes already so I probably wouldn't procrastinate (which is rich coming from me) for too long if you think your Spring wardrobe is missing a pair of these.

There are other brogues out there, most of which are of the sturdier variety and in leather, if you after more of a traditional style.

Toast Tassel Derby £225  Pricey but classic.  I actually think that the ones from Seven Boot Lane have a definite Toast vibe about them (which is fabulous in my book as I think Toast just oozes cool - which generally I don't.  I try - fail miserably.  We can but try...) but, as you can see, at a fraction of the Toast cost.

Tan with more traditional brogue detailing at Boden

The Lace Up now £101.15

In white from the more expensive range - Best of British at M&S (which I will discuss more on another day).  They're gorgeous but they'd definitely take a lot of consideration for that price.

Leather White Brogues £165

Now I do have it on excellent authority that the loafers from Clarks are super comfy (would you expect any less?)  Personally, as I have my loafers which are on the chunkier side, I wanted brogues that were a more unstructured affair.   But these are definitely up there for price/comfort/style if you're looking for a brogue brogue.

They've also bought out a variation on a theme.  I don't know whether I love or am just meh about these.  No I definitely do like them but for me, I did want something slightly more traditional.

These would definitely have been a contender as I do personally like the no lace detail but I know from doing a blog on something similar last year that these aren't particularly popular.  Love the colour as well.

Sail Away Canvas Brogue from Great Plains £80  And whilst I couldn't find any other suede versions, Great Plains are doing a canvas one which is another alternative.

So will you be doing some brogue action this season?  Today I wore them with a slightly smarter look but tomorrow I plan on dressing them down with some faded denim and navy.  I also think they're going to look great teamed with leopard print.  Not to mention one of the tee-shirts from yesterday with boyfriend jeans and a shrunken blazer.  Thank you Seven Boot Lane, I love them.

Here for a trip to Ikea with the family - oh how they all LOVED it.  Not.  Lunch at a new pub that has opened locally and then a movie afternoon snuggled up with them whilst The Husband went out and watched the rugby.  Outfit from last night, coming up tomorrow.

  1. I love brogues! Perfect with mannish trousers and a cardi for that Katherine Hepburn look at the office:). I got mine from the boys department of M&S though for a bargain £15. Sometimes it pays to have tiny feet! X

    1. oh god that is such a fab idea! Hmmm I wonder if boys shoes are generally larger than girls. M&S girls only go up to a size 6 which is a VERY small 6. I shall check it out. I am loving my brogues. Hopefully be teaming with a classic blazer for mannish chic tomorrow.

  2. Big fan of brogues - I started with a tan pair from Dune several years ago, which are still going strong. A few years ago I splashed out on some blue and white ones from Hudson, brilliant for summer. And last year I finished up with some black ones from Bertie, which have a creeper sole (soooooo comfortable). The soles on your grey ones look a bit thin for me, I like plenty of padding!

    1. I LOVE hudson shoes. I remember the Bertie ones from last year with that sole - too chunky for me. My loafers are much sturdier - both pairs I have and I wanted something that was more delicate to wear in the summer without socks. Horses for courses but I've been looking something with a less manly sole!

  6. The seven boot lane ones aren't a traditional brogue are they? - I prefer the m&s and Boden ones but they may not be as comfy. Were they a good fit? I think it's a versatile colour, though the classic tan goes with everything. A useful post, thank you! Xx

    1. These are what I believe they call an Oxford Brogue... The punched ones are definitely a different look, that's for sure but I love the delicacy of these for the summer. They're an amazing fit - lovely soft suede which I think would work for most people. Size up though, they're on the small side size wise. xx

    1. I've tried the chunkier ones on a billion times but just keep more comfortable in loafers. However love these lighter ones in the suede. You should try them!

  13. Love the way you have styled these , but the stone suede wouldn't me my cup of tea. The Anya maxi zip satchel in stone is beautiful though, pity they don't have it in that colour this season, makes me want it even more!

    1. They only did it in one season and it is honestly the more useful colour bag I have ever owned. It honestly goes with everything. And to think I picked it up at Bicester!!

  15. I think you picked the perfect colour and style for the summer - lovely lovely shade of minky grey which is so versatile. I have the M&S boys brogues and I have to confess, I'm growing very fond of them as I wasn't 100% sure but they lend a certain look to some of my outfits and they were a total bargain. I also love Toast - just don't love the prices as much. And their clothes don't always love me.

  16. I wasn't a true brogues fan til my M&S boys brogues appeared, now I live in them (although not the UK and it's warmer here!). The leather is amazing quality, fabulous detailing and beautifully made. They fit a wee bit small, maybe half a size, although M&S don't offer in half sizes .... and for GBP30, can't be beat. They still look brand new. http://www.marksandspencer.com/leather-lace-up-brogue-shoes/p/p22260429
