Oh hello comfort zone

It appears we haven't seen the end of Summer quite yet (obviously hoping for loads more days and even an Indian Summer, although by September every year, I'm just gagging to wear boots) as tomorrow it's due to be scorchio.

And I did promise, after my fitted dress blog the other day that I'd be back with my ultimate style of dress.  Le Sac.  Aka Le Tent.  Aka a shapeless number that for me, works so so so well.

Yes there's a time and a place for dresses with shape but I know I'm not alone in loving a cocoon or tunic dress.

Definitely my comfort zone - for me, they are the easiest and most versatile of dresses.  So I didn't feel too bad about buying TWO new ones last week in the sale at & Other Stories, especially when both had 70% off making them.... drum roll... a whopping £16.50.  Well I couldn't leave them behind for that, could I?

Alas both of those are now sold out (they've been sold out for ages actually) but when I was looking at more fitted dresses the other day, I spied so many gorgeous tunic styles that I had to dedicate their own blog to them.

First off - this one from Vero Moda.  Tick on so many levels.  Love the colours together, love the print, adore the extra fringing and the fact it's Tall works for me (sorry if you're more petite...)

Vero Moda Tall Printed T-shirt tassel dress £30

Another tall one, this time in the sale though - win win.

Vero Moda Tall Palm Print Dress was £30 now £21

However fear not, I have lots which will only work if you're not quite so tall - more tee shirt dresses.  Bargain prices.  Ideal for the school run, the beach, out for lunch or with heels in the evening.  Every wardrobe should have at least one of these.

ASOS T-shirt Dress with Kimono Sleeves in floral print £30

A fabulously summery white version.

Just Female Lola Tunic Shirt Dress £85

New in at Boden with 20% off A2T5 - Florence Dress in the colourblock print £89

Also love this print which to me is the most perfect all year round colourway.  I'd wear with black sandals in the Summer and your pick of shoes or ankle boots in the Winter.  Dare I mention an OTK boot??

Florence Dress in the floral print £89

Similar shape in white.  This is perfect for every single holiday I can think of.

Pure Cotton Mixed Cutwork Tunic Dress from M&S £49.50

Same shape at Jigsaw.  These aren't in the sale either, but they are the most useful dresses ever.  One of my best friends bought one of these for the round robin of First Holy Communions we had earlier in the year and it looked amazing with a big dressy necklace.  However looks just as good on the school run with flipflops.

Jigsaw Silk Panel Mix Jersey Dress in Navy £98

They've also done a dark khaki for the A/W... be still my beating inner Private Benjamin.

A print version in the same shape but this time in the sale - bargains still to be had.

Blue Ink Print Dress from Jigsaw was £89 now £26

And another...

Jigsaw Striped Boat Neck t-shirt dress was £59 now £29

I'm more than aware not everyone likes a round neck so there are a couple of v neck options.

Jigsaw Abstract Mirror Dress in navy was £110 now £79

M&S Collection Twin Pocket Tunic Dress £45 - apparently this is a "secret slimming dress"  They also do this in a petite and a plus size online.

A great bright version at M&S - pink may or not be your thing.  I have to say I have my super bright yellow dress which comes out every year so if it's your colour and you have the perfect matching accessories (which to be honest is what makes my yellow dress for me) then snap it up.  I'd also wear this with black for the Christmas season as well.  Just add bling.

Slash Neck Swing A-line dress £45

And the reason for me finishing on a super bright number is because these are the two gems I snaffled in the & Other Stories sale - both of which sold out online ages ago as I mentioned, but I managed to cadge them both instore last week.

Can you believe I left this one as I didn't think I "needed" it.  Got half a mile down the road and literally ran back to get it.  Ran.  There was sweat.  That's how much I regretted not buying it.  And pleased I am.  Love love love it.

Tropical dress - & Other Stories
Tan shoe boots - LK Bennett

And this is the other one which I feared was too see through but handily they only had a larger size left which works perfectly as it's very white...

Stripe shirt dress - & Other Stories
Tan sandals - Forever 21
Cognac cross body bag - Campogmaggi

Still totally prevaricating about the gazillion (well two that fit) pairs of sandals that I bought.  My heart says keep the Aquazzura tan ones.  My head says don't be ridiculous, you can count on one hand the weeks you've got left of wearing them - save the money for boots.  With regards to the Topshop figs that everyone has and everyone loves - omg they are so pants on me I can't tell you.  Although they have the gift of making my skeletor feet look like weetabix which is something no other shoe has ever been able to do.  Not enough reason to purchase though, methinks.....(funny that...)

I may have to do a pic of the Aquazzuras tomorrow.  I definitely will on Instagram although I'm too scared in case everyone says they're amazing (which, DARN IT, they are) and seeing as I have the backbone of a mussel, I will talk myself into keeping them in about twenty seconds flat.  Please tell me I'm not the only one who, if someone else proffers a positive opinion, will purchase immediately??!

  1. Green with envy - you snagged two amazing bargains. God darn you woman!! This style of dress is my very best shape too (although on a good day, I can do a pencil dress but is a little too work wear for me these days. I'd leave the decision of the sandals to the toss of a coin!?!?!

    1. Pencil dress just makes me look like a pencil. I'm too tall (ok more tree trunk than pencil...) This style works perfectly and is so so comfy too. Hmm toss of a coin - I'm not that brave and I don't love them enough - plus there are so many cheaper options out there which look identical. DECISION MADE!

  2. I'm having second thoughts about the AQuazzura pair sitting in their box waiting to be worn. They are gorgeous no doubt. But but but... In August when I'm away with my nearest and dearest no one will give a flying fig about their designer origins and would literally laugh at my profligate ways if they knew the price tag. On balance. Lovely as they are I'm saving my money and buying boots instead

  7. Well I hope that first asos dress is a winner as I ordered it last night :)
I have been on the lookout for some 'easy' dresses and I think this will fit the bill. I'm not overly tall at 5' 7" but could do with a decent length.

  8. I am not a big fan of Boden at all but I love love love that Florence dress. I love this style of dress too, so comfy and although pretty shapeless, I still think it can be quite flattering. Lorraine x

    1. It definitely dpends on the length and how you style it. I think it can definitely work in the right setting (and at the right age....!!)

    1. This is exceptionally true. GAH (but then we would have no excuse to have all those jeans and sneakers and jackets in our wardrobe.....!)

  10. This dress shape doesn't really do anything for me but they're just so bloody comfortable & I can just about get away with a v-neck version! I love both your dresses, especially the White shirt dress. I'm so annoyed that I was stood outside this shop in Regent Street the same day you were there & didn't go in as the kids were losing patience with me at that point, gah!! X
