I can't believe I'm typing this...

.....but I actually think I might be addicted to my white trainers.  This is from a girl who wouldn't entertain the thought of these 18months ago.

But I have been truly converted to the dark side and cannot get enough of these babies.  And it's not only me.  On Saturday in London, & Other Stories at 10am was packed with full on fashionistas clearly all then scooting off to London Fashion Week and every single one of them had on white trainers.  A variety of them and the rest of the outfits were indeed "varied" but the one thing everyone in common was white footwear of the sneaker kind.

I love mine and wear them so much, I actually think I could be in the market for a new pair. (WHAT I hear you cry?)   I currently have two pairs - well, theoretically I have three as to put my toe in the water last year I bought a Zara leather pair, which served me incredibly well and I do still wear to dog walk in - clearly the trendiest dog walker around, ignoring the fact I usually/always have my jamas on to do it.....

Mine are the cracked Stan Smiths and a pair of Golden Goose Superstars (which were bought at half price in the sale may I point out.

But I have come across these and I think I might have to go and try them on.  Absolutely adore them.

adidas Originals Pointed Flatform Trainers £75

More sizes at Selfridges £74.99

Bargain originals though at ASOS... I'm not sure how easy it is to come across the cracked leather ones anymore.
adidas cracked white leather and green Stan Smiths from ASOS now only £46

Alternatively there is the newer velcro version which I rather like in the textured snake leather.

adidas Stan Smith £70

However it doesn't necessarily have to be adidas - it doesn't even have to be a "trainer" make....they certainly do seem to have transcended the "practical" into pure fashion (even though I can personally vouch for their super levels of comfort - the Stans that is)
Aldo Rafa White Metal Toe Cap Trainers £60 If a bit of bling is your thing...

Even Whistles are in on the action.

Koki Modern Lace Up Trainers from Whistles £110  BUT BUT BUT now £88 at House of Fraser as they have a Brand Event on for the next couple of days.  Apparently John Lewis are matching "a competitor's promotion" except this doesn't appear to include Whistles.  I have tweeted to ask why but they've not responded yet. Hmmmm

For something slightly more subtle and less in your face, then a classic converse may be your answer.

Converse All Star Low Leather Trainers in mouse white £54.99

However, if I had to choose... and clearly if money was no object then I genuinely cannot recommend the Golden Goose highly enough.  They are the most ridiculous amount of money.  If it makes any difference, each pair is hand cut and hand stitched in Italy... (err bothered but as a justification...)   Like I said before - the 11yr old asked if they were new and when I said yes, she responded with confusion "did you get them from a charity shop?"... So yes, at first glance they may seem somewhat Emperor's New Clothes and they're certainly not going to be for everyone but they are like wearing slippers.  They are so so so so so comfortable, I can't tell you.  And I personally love the distressed look to them.

Golden Goose Superstar low top leather trainers from Matches £240

Very similar pair... but marginally cheaper.

Superstar low top leather trainers £225

And look what I found to pimp those sneakers... clearly there is the classic white but also on offer are metallic, black, snakeskin, you name it versions.  I'm in.  (for the Stans... not for the Golden Goose I don't think..  Actually I might fling these on my old Zara ones to create a brand new pair - now there's a thought....)

Aurelie Chadaine fringe tabs and franginettes 35Euro (but you can ship to England.  I think it works out at about £25 when I looked earlier)

So where do you sit on the trainer bench?  A variation of a white version or are you more of a "runners" sort of girl.  For those who don't have any Irish family, these are trainers that you actually do exercise in.  And for me, as a not really remotely trendy individual, this includes all the New Balance and Nike or whatever they are, trainers.  The ones with a turned up end  (not the technical term) that look like you could possibly legitimately break into a jog at any given moment.  Or that you didn't have time to get dressed properly after going to the gym.... but that's just me.  They're not my bag - as the white tennis shoe Stanesque variety won't be an object of lust for lots of people.  And wouldn't it be a dull world if we all swanned around in the same shoes (which you possibly would have been doing if you were anywhere near an LFW venue last week and had a pair of white sneakers on.  Oh well)

To prove how much I love them - here I am in a rather off piste outfit.  But made wearable with my beloved Stans.  I bought these trousers for £15 in the Zara sale last A/W.  And have never worn them.  Expect to see them often... (I'm thinking with black and white breton.... fitted black military jacket..... this may well be tomorrow's outfit)  Well - often, as in when it doesn't rain.  The mega downside of wide legged trousers = soggy hem issue.

I'm out for drinks tonight so off to get changed.  Oh yes and that is a new short hair do.  Three inches off this time so not as drastic as before but it has taken it to shoulder level which ironically makes it look like a much bigger chip.  I love.  The kids?  "We can't see any difference".  *insert rolling eyes smiley*   Will let you know what The Husband says......

  1. My husband is utterly bewildered at the thought of me paying for a new pair of trainers that look battered - I however am in love with my white GGDB's and would never have worn trainers a year ago either. Thanks for the recommendation!

    1. You are more than welcome. I honestly think when you have them, you can (sort of.....) understand why they cost so much? *clutches at straws....*!!

  2. I so like the Stan Smiths but I can't see past my converse. Love your look with the white sneaker and the wide leg trouser - one of my favourites. Lorraine x

    1. you see I find Converse and Superga SO SO uncomfortable. I do love the look of both though - complete classics.

  3. I have a pair of Stan Smiths but I tracked them down in regular leather with navy trim on the heel. Love them to bits. Find them much more supportive than converse and even new balance trainers. I also have a proper pair of Brooks runners ;) but I lived in the Stans all summer long.
I would love a pair of golden goose but I think that will go on the 'yeah, right, you wish!' list along with Toga Pullas.

    3. Love the look of white trainers but not on me. Being on the wrong side of 30, I feel I look like I am trying to be 'down with the kids'. Toga Pullas though, I love but cannot justify the price, however, I found a wicked copy of them at Bershka for £49.99!

    4. Oh gosh I don't feel that at all about the white sneakers. Have to say it's mostly older women I see wearing them - the young lovely things are all in their super trendy Nike and NBs! Might vary from area to area though. And yes, I can't wait to get my Toga Pullas out again. They are truly a thing of beauty. Sounds like you snagged a great bargain!

  4. Love all trainers. I have loads of pairs of different makes including converse and nike! However, I adore the GGDB and am wondering how I might justify!! The whistles jumper you're after is 20% off at HoF. I could e mail you a code for a further 10% off if you want it? X

  6. Hi Kat, sorry totally random question but could you tell me which hairdryer, curling thing ( technical term) you use. I know you mentioned them before but I can't find that post. Love your hair a little shorter! x

  9. It makes total sense! But I think you need to just embrace them... after a couple of days they will feel totally normal, I promise!!

  10. Love that look on you but I only wear trainers to actually exercise in.... All my trainers are actually 'runners' and I just can't pair them with normal clothes, it doesn't feel right. I do however have my converse which I wear a lot as a casual shoe but to me these aren't trainers.. They are plimsolls or canvas shoes (because you can't actually exercise in them). Am tempted by the Stans as a good alternative (probably because they don't look remotely like anything I could actually run in)!

    1. TOtally with you. I bought the New Balance and hated them. I liked hem for a week and then thought - WTAF - NO! For me the Stan Smiths et al are a totally different sort of shoe. Like comparing a brogue with a ballet flat!

  11. Oh, yes, trainers are great this time of year. I do like converse, but I have insoles (lord, that sounds ancient) that makes them very comfortable. I haven't yet embraced the white trainers but have silver hi-tops, which I love.

The wide-legged trousers look great, especially with trainers. I bought a wool pair last year, not yet cold enough for them, that were great either dressed down like yours but also with heels to dress up.

  12. I have a real issue with 'runners' being worn anywhere other than the gym! I think it's weird! So yeah, trainers in our house are all clearly 'fashion trainers' or 'gym trainers' and just like you wouldn't wear your Golden Goose ones to run a marathon you're not allowed to wear your Nike running shoes to Waitrose (unless you're genuinely on your way home from a run, obvs!) Random but true.
All that fussiness aside, I have 3 pairs of Converse already but love the Stan Smith ones...they might be going on the list!

    2. Totally with you Mama of Boys.... Running trainers for running only, I could never wear them as normal foot attire!

    3. I did try them (I was fooled into thinking they were fabulous as Phoebe Philo ROCKED them) Alas I looked like a tit.

  13. Kat, how do you manage for keeping them clean? ( not the GG ones obvs ;) ). I have whiter skaters from the summer that I adore, but they have already picked up miscellaneous scuffs and grass stains, and getting another pair going into the wet and muddy season seems like a risky venture!
Love the hair! You're sooo lucky to have so much of it. Mine seems to have got thinner and more fragile every month since my late 30s. All the thickening stuff just makes it frizzy and still thin :(

    1. I must be a grimmer as I don't seem to notice mine getting dirty! Having said that, that's the joy of the GGs in that they're already dirty! Yes, I have to say, my hair is a blessing. If it's any consolation, I have nails like paper!

  15. Love the white trainers look and I had white leather Converse ones which I thought were serviceable until you got me onto Stan Smiths. I got the cracked leather pair but in the wrong size (only one online store left with a UK 7 which turned out to be huge on me!). Finally bought a regular Lux pair from this season's offerings and couldn't be happier! You're completely right, Stan Smiths are WAY more comfy than Converse!!

  16. I have totally got into Stan Smiths. I have also just taken some wider legged trousers to be altered to they too can be worn with the Stans. I may look a plank in this combo but I am 47 on Monday so I don't give a hoot! I love H's observations btw, kids are so forthright and probably say what everyone actually thinks. H x
