Things I need in my life

Number 1.

A knitted dress.

Specifically this knitted dress from Whistles.  Which I tried in "just to see" the other day.  Why would I do that?  To be fair, a vast majority of Whistles garb that I do try on, does look totally and utterly grim.  The sizing is more than random (clearly it's not my shape...) and some things are purely wrong diddly.

However there are times when the planets align and the other day was one such occasion.

I know I could search forever and not find something as perfect as this dress.

But does that stop me trying?  Hell no.  You know me when I'm on a mission....  And in fact, the one thing that could make it more perfect would be the dress in black.  Or charcoal.  As opposed to navy.

So this is where the inspiration has stemmed from...

Soft Funnel Cashmere Dress from Whistles in Navy £180

Rubbish pic from the Whistles website - so here are some other better ones from other retailers (same Whistles jumper obviously).  Also interesting to see different styling options.  For me though - I love the way it's styled at Whistles.  And the navy and the black is definitely swaying me.....

At John Lewis...

At ASOS (already sold out in the Large - EEK)

Another navy one which is similar (although obviously I don't like it as much...)

Selected Mado Ribbed Jumper Dress £80

And some alternatives at Reiss which do seem more dress like I would say...

Gilmore Black Roll Neck Jumper Dress £170 from Reiss - Wool and cashmere mix..

And in the minx...

Funnel not polo neck now at ASOS Tall Swing Dress with high neck in camel marl £32

In a normal version too (more sizes available in this)  Cashmere mix £32

Black from Noisy May - Nmkarna Jumper dress for £34

A slightly different version from Topshop - Clean Swing Knitted Dress £48 -  a viscose and nylon mix so I think I know what this would feel like and I think it would be more crepe style than jumper dress. This one could easily be dressed up for a night out for sure.

Longer now and these could be cool or I could look like a huge knitted willy...Some shaping may help these perchance.  But I do love the idea (assuming I don't look like a woolly knob)

ASOS WHITE Ribbed striped jumper in silk and cashmere mix £85

Staying longer.

ASOS Midi jumper midi dress with roll neck £40

This is sightly less of a dress and more of a long jumper in my book.  Nothing that a pair of leather leggings couldn't fix though....

ASOS Tunic in boucle knit in khaki £45

Also adore it in this colour - mink.

Doesn't have to be a higher neck though - round at Me+Em in a gorgeously autumnal shade.  I love the oversized cuffs on this.  I've also got a 20% off voucher to share from Me+Em - FNJC1.

Ribbed Tunic from Me+Em £165

Also in a navy version

Sutton Knit Dress in black from Baukjen £110

Label Lab Jersey Knit Cowl Dress was £45 now £36

In lots of other colours too - particularly loving the wine one.  Also navy, grey and teal available.

Another different neckline at Esprit - Jumper Dress £55

Finishing with a couple which are slightly more out there..

Diesel Jumper dress £150  Oh I love love this.  Very Bella Freud.

And I know this is totally wrong diddly but I freaking love it.

ASOS White Cable Knit Front Dress £110

Thoughts?  I was freezing today and could so have done with one of these.  But then I'm under the weather today for sure as are most of the family.  The poor 11 yr old sounds she's been on 20 Lambert & Butler a day for the past five years, with a hacking cough to go with it.  Took her to the Dr today (as she's off on a 7 day residential trip with school this weekend.  EEK) and they think it's a virus so the pair of us had a day on the sofa feeling very sorry for ourselves.

Yesterday though, we were in much better form - up early for a couple of hours of rugby.  Lovely afternoon - family party, so 16 over for a late lunch and a glass or two of fizz and red wine.  The late night can't have helped anyone's health though so it will be an early night for us all here.

I changed into my trusty summer black jumpsuit and Anthropologie ponyskin mules for the party but to rugby I was sporting...

I am definitely getting into the A/W zone now.... just need to compile the final wishlist....

  1. Ooh I do like these jumper dress thingys. I remember them from a long time ago when they went a bit baggy round the bum and knees. Hopefully they will have progressed over the last 20 years. Not sure which one is my favourite though. Lorraine x

  2. I do see the need for that knitted dress! I have a charcoal cable knit dress from Gerard Darel and another oll neck black sleeveless one from Benetton in my wardrobe. I love them, but they are very warm and are mostly used on cold days in the winter. The knitted dress is a classic staple though. Lots to chose from here! The Asos Khaki Tunic in boucle knit is now on my list, love the colour. Hope it looks as good in real life!I Have to love the shop assistants (?) outfit in your selfie btw.
Your cardi looks so cosy, your wardrobe must be a dream!

  6. The Whistles one looks great! Grazia used to have a Whistles code every now and again but I don't seem to see them at all anymore? Two questions: is it soft, can't do with itchy jumpers and do the pockets stick out … watched the Asos video and there is a definite bulge? Thanks Kat!

    1. It's definitely soft and no you can't see the pockets at all! I didn't even realise it had pockets till I tried it on.

  9. Hi Kat - the m &s code doesn’t seem to want to work for me - sad face - might I be too late do you think (tried just now)? On a positive note I no longer buy absolutely everything at m & s after reading your blog. Um, I don’t suppose you do requests but were you to, I cannot find a decent navy winter T (or black or grey come to that!!). Mint velvet looks good but too shiny....not exciting I know. While am on also sad that hush don’t go one size larger too - haven’t tried their stuff (although love) but based on boden sizes think would no longer be over-sized which misses the point really. Maybe you could put a word in...

    1. Did you mean Me+Em? If so - oh I'm so sorry, that's such a shame. If you meant the M&S code that did run out last night. I have a layering blog in the pipeline if you meant longsleeved tees...??

    2. I did mean m and s...just my luck - darn it, although it normally comes round just when I’ve spent loads! Long sleeved T’s indeed and a layering blog sounds just the ticket.

    1. You're not short though, are you? In that case, you just need the tunic style ones that I would flash my snatch in - and you'd be fine!!

  14. STOP IT. And that's AMAZING news about the 29th... are you sure... is your source reliable....??! (my Grazia source has buggered off, darn her)

  15. Love the whistles jumper, I am waiting for the code to order a leather skirt! I tried the All Saints Benton cape jumper on and loved it as much as I really wanted to and there was 20% discount. However, the arms are so tight that you wouldn't be able to wear anything underneath so a bit pointless in the winter!! Going to try a similar one from & other stories at half the price! X

  18. I tried to buy one of these from Next last week. Chose a couple of options to try on plus some brown ankle boots, get to check out and the boots are 5 weeks delivery, one dress 7 weeks delivery the other out of stock. Grr. What? Why?!
In the end got a great berry tunic with 20% off at Phase 8. Lovely clingier black one there too but it's itchy!
