Over to the dark side

Black.  Yes, we're talking black jeans today.  Ok so they're not exactly the most summery of items but then we've not been having the most summery of weather.  Sideways rain and gale force winds anyone?  Although, yes there was a glimmer of sunshine but it was cold.  Let's face it peeps - we have a good few months of jeans weather yet.

These are a staple in my wardrobe.  Well, actually that's a lie - they would be had I mastered them...

Like the other day, we're not talking skinnies.  I will come back to them but I don't think they're that hard to find, especially in black.  They're a breeze to find.  Loose, boyfriend or straight legs though?  Much more difficult.  Again, I do have an old pair that I need to dig out.  I'm hoping they're going to be a successful blast from the past like my ecru ones were the other day.

But in the meantime, I'm looking for black looser jeans.  That you can wear for day/night/work/play.  And I wouldn't mind spending that little bit more if they were perfect.  Like the shape of my beloved MiH Phoebes.  But no.  They don't do them in black (or grey.. now grey ones would be perfect.  *Would be* being the vital phrase here.  They don't do them).

PAH.  So here's what else I have found.  Starting with ASOS as that's where my old ones are from and I have always been really impressed with their denim.

ASOS High Waisted Straight Leg jeans in black £32

ASOS White Boyfriend Jeans with organza contrast detail in washed black £55

Dr Denim Edie High Waisted Slim Mom Jeans £50

Monki Step Hem Jeans £40

Free People Jasper Straight Jeans were £68 now £45

Waven Mari Straight Leg Jeans £50

Now these at Topshop are called Straight leg.  In my experience Straight leg at Topshop = spray on skinny.  But I'll let you be the judge of that...

MOTO Black Raw Hem Straight Leg Jeans £40 from Topshop

And then we're upping the budget.  Seeing as these are easily wearable out in the evening with whatever top your personality decides you're wearing - boho, rock chic or classic elegance.

Fletcher high rise slim leg cropped jeans from Rachel Comey were £336 now £134  BARGAIN.  Imagine me screaming at you - BARGAIN.  I have bought and returned the wide leg versions of these not once, but twice.  As they were just a smidge too high waisted for me.  But that's before I got used to wearing them.  You know you sometimes can't get your head around something at first and then after a while it becomes the norm?  Can you hear me talking my way into them?

Raey Flood Flared Jeans £140 from Matches  These look sooo good.  I'm hoping that being a giant they may be cropped on me.  I'm trying to ignore this Rockins top which I've also had my eye on (I don't actually think it's in stock anymore.. I'm not looking).

These I have tried last year but they were a tad too kick flare and I was after straight.  They are my favourite jeans make though.  AND they're full price elsewhere.

MiH Lou Jeans in Cropped Kick Flare were £225 now £168.50

These look like a super smart pair.  Love the addition of the white.

Rag & Bone Cropped mid rise straight leg jeans £265

And here I am in more jeans.  Just to prove how much I adore my straight leg jeans and want to get the same in black (or white).  It shouldn't be that hard should it?

Logo tee - Isabel Marant Etoile
Phoebe Jeans - MiH
Frock Coat - Zara
Red Boots - Topshop
Black Belt - ASOS
Black Tools Bag - Balenciaga

Just that like - it's Friday.  Off out for dinner with friends, have done swimming, dropped at movie night after a day of meetings in London.  Where I *may* have had to bomb into Bella Freud.  BUT I did come out empty handed.  However food for thought for another blog that I've got up my sleeve...

  1. Citizens of Humanity Emerson Jean in Black. My most beloved pair of black boyfriend jeans. I LOVE them!

  2. Love your outfit from today and love today's blog. Black jeans = my territory. Have just realised that i have several of these shapes in black so I need to dig them out and reinvent them. Jeans are so difficult aren't they? Most of mine are from Gap which I know isn't everyone's cuppa but they're the brand I've had most success with. They do some fantastic deals too - I'm currently wearing a pair of ripped, raw hem 'girlfriend' jeans that I picked up for about £8, around the time of that Guardian article that said people over 53 shouldn't wear jeans. ha ha ha ha ha. Jac.

    1. I would love love to Gap jeans but they just don't love me back. Actually that's not true - I have ONE pair that works that I got the sale as they were the old version of the Real Straight ones but they're much looser. And PAH - over 53? - all the eye rolling...!

  3. I just bought straight leg, raw hemmed black (really more dark grey) jeans from All Saints. Possibly a bit too short for you - they are cropped on me at 5ft 6 - but maybe a goer for others.

    1. I'll have a look thank you as my ecru ones are from All Saints and they're fab. Although I think they're supposed to be rolled up and I unroll them... which obviously makes them longer (a longer crop that is!)

  4. I am picking these up tomorrow. Am really hoping I love them as order and return so many pairs of jeans. http://m.houseoffraser.co.uk/Paige+Jacqueline+Straight+Jean+In+Sadie/263393977,default,pd.html
It's always the crotch (hate that word!!) area I find difficult. Often too much fabric! Love the green Bella Freud jumper you had on insta. Go back and buy! I have the red and the quality is great but not sure I can justify another. Have you seen the green BF libertas jumper. That's lovely too but think the 1970 colour is much nicer.

    1. It's definitely a case of trying a million pairs on as in my experience, they all suit a different sort of person! So so hard.

  7. It's so true now I come to think about it; you can only get black skinnies.
I do love the Topshop and second ASOS ones you showcased ;-)

  8. I may have indulged over Christmas and bought the Stella McCartney star print jeans in black, in a boyfriend fit. Absolutely love them, definitely getting my cost per wear out of them!

    1. Oh how I love the cost per wear analogy. But it works, doesn't it? I also think if you can wear for different occasions - so ticks that versatility box too!

  11. I have a pair of gap real straight jeans that I've had for years and are the most perfect soft washed black. Unfortunately, they are almost coming to the end of their life *weeps* so I will need to replace. They can look great paired with a white, summery top, chambray shirt or denim jacket to make less wintry.

  12. This post couldn't have been more timely for me as I've been on the hunt for a pair of non-skinny black jeans - thanks to you the ASOS Free People ones are winging their way to me, fingers crossed! I have the Rockins skinny shark scarf in pale blue and just LOVE it
