Steady on - a photo with a face.

I will admit that this is for no other reason than the full length mirror in the place we're staying means I have to sort of wedge myself between the bed and the chest of drawers to even attempt to take a photograph.  "Why would that matter, considering the absolute piss poor photos you normally whack up?", I hear you cry.

Well, if it can actually be believed, it made for an even worse photo.  Plus, RR1 was literally beside herself at being asked to take the photo.  I kid you not, at bedtime, she said it was the highlight of her day.  Which obviously made me feel like the worst parent on the planet - first day of holiday and taking a photo of her mother was the best bit.  Fail.

Tomorrow though we're off to a food festival and as she's a complete mini foodie (despite being a Coeliac, bless her - sorry - PC alert, we have to say suffering from Coeliac disease rather than "labelling" her as a Coeliac.  She still says she's a Coeliac as, she intelligently told me "errr, that's what I am, mum").  So hopefully it will trump her Mario Testino moment from today.

A quick round up - a number of people have asked for an update on what to wear in this weather.  This week will hopefully be an indicator of how I cope (I'm not great in the heat, it does have to be said - half Irish, need add no more) and I will try and bung a pic up every day.

White silk double layer top - Taylor Stevens (local company who do clothes parties - some great bits.  Email me for more details.)
Bleached distressed skinny jeans - Zara (these are looking a tad tatty - might need a repair job soon but I love the fit)
Dull gold Hav rip offs - Primark
Gold bee necklace - Alex Monroe
Gold charm necklace - Made
Vanilla Roxanne - Mulberry
Sunglasses - Tom Ford

Now a very cheeky Lust of the Day - one which I cunningly have bought as I believe it's already sold out in a number of Zaras.  An utterly bargainous £49.99 jersey blazer.  I know I sound like a stuck record but this honestly is the ultimate dress up dress down piece.  I shoved it on later this afternoon to take the kids to the boating pond.  And yet my friend has bought it for a wedding and a number of other dressy affairs.  I have a wedding to go to in Italy (outfit dilemma to follow) and this is definitely a contender if I don't trash the life out of it before then.  Beautiful soft fabric, doesn't crease at all (hung it straight out of my suitcase and it was good to go - LOVE clothes like that), fitted yet casual at the same time.  And goes with pretty much everything.  Possibly my favourite buy of the season.  (I reserve the right to completely go back on that last statement.  I may have more than a smidge of red wine this evening......)  I do however promise it looks a lot lot better in real life than it does in the pic.

Ok there must be more wine to drink and football to watch (I am a sad football fan.  I'll get my coat)

See you tomorrow and have fun in the sun!

  1. Love your floaty white top and that blazer will go perfectly with the outfit you are wearing today x

  2. The problem with this weather is not what to wear, but what to wear to work! A problem if you have to look smart and not crumpled and sweaty.....x

    1. Fingers crossed you have aircon - although then you're cold inside and boiling out. Doh!

I'd say lots of jersey or crepe - neither of which crease as much as cotton, or (god forbid) linen. Actually a linen knit is always good if you can get it in a top.

My advice would be something loose!

    2. No aircon Kat , and 30 hot children in an airless classroom! Loose most definitely, got a cotton dress from Hobbs and a linen from John Lewis both meeting the school dress code. The weather's never right is it?!

  3. V intrigued by your response to question a few posts back. For various reasons we are obliged to spend quite a lot of time in Suffolk and I really really want to fall in love with it, but literally I feel every cell in my body cheering as we leave.
What do you love about it? I must be missing something and need to look with fresh eyes! Genuinely I would love to know what it is that brings you (willingly!) back so that next time I can hunt it out and adopt it as a stomping ground. I love the first outfit, the tattier the jeans the better!

    1. I do have to say I adore those jeans and they're just perfect for teaming with white for the summer. A couple of years old now were in the sale and have been worth their weight in gold.

Suffolk? Sigh. We just adore it. But I do think it probably depends on where you stay. We always stay in the same place, visit the same places (actually when The Husband and I are on our own we do stay somewhere else but always the same hotel!) and just adore it. The people are lovely, it's never too crowded, it's not too expensive, the accommodation is great and it's easy to park (hence we avoid Southwold like the plague - just too too busy and spread out). Great wine shops, delis and gift shops. I will admit, i swerve on the clothes front. Bar Jack Wills where I could find something if I had to. Otherwise, I would honestly be pushed to buy something - I am probably in need of a jumper but I would honestly rather be cold! But I can live without clothes shopping for a week (just about ha ha ha)

Hope that helps - email me if you need anything else! xxxxx

  4. With face and body like that you should ditch the mirror and get your RR1 to snap for you! My photos are are taken by my 1 year old twins and the blog has them developed this new interest in photography. Now they go around snapping at everything including daddy snoozing (which was not appreciated of course haha!)The blog sort of became a channel for me to bond with them.. the only thing that is missing is body and face like your! Bummer! ;)

The floral blazer is TDF! Good luck finding it in my nearby store!

    2. I was quite impressed that a 1 year old could do that!

    3. Me too! I thought bloody hell, my 3 yr old can't take a photo without cutting off a head or an arm. You're right, my 7 yr old is now addicted and has asked if she can do it all the time. Since I don't seem to have lost any followers by exposing my ugly mug to the world, we'll see!

And yes, the blazer is honestly a total gem.

    1. oh yay! Someone else with a coeliac daughter. (ok that's not exactly what I meant, but you know what I mean hopefully!) How old is yours and how long has she been diagnosed. Mine is 7 and she was diagnosed 18 months ago - she's doubled her body weight in that time. Amazing. We have the odd melt down (and therefore none of us will be having fish and chips whilst we're away as she gets so so upset, understandably) but generally she has been so accepting of it. Probably as she feels so much better.

And thank you for your lovely comments xxxxx

  7. Thank you! And I hope you notice that most things I wear are actually much looser round the midriff. I hide it well and will totally admit I have slim arms and legs but my middle section very much does resemble a deflated waterbed. Never on show. I think most of the things I wear can easily be adapted if you're slightly bigger!

Hopefully this blog is about a specific style for those approaching a certain age (or those who are past it and heading towards another!) rather than just those for slimmer people.

Anything else I can do to help, just holler!

  8. LOL - just made my first Zara purchase in a LONG time and got the floral jacket and another plain fuschia jersey jacket. I love jersey jackets and have a couple from Boden a season or so ago. Now just want a black one but Zara are all sold out:(

  9. I hope that you have by now discovered that gluten-free fish and chips exist. (I have the dratted coeliac disease too, so I really sympathise with your daughter re fish and chips. Many chippies now offer GF fish and chips one or two days a week. I was in heaven when I had my first fish and chips in 5 years.)
