A more wearable wedge?

So the wedge ankle boot that isn't a trainer.  As I've discovered, to some, wedge trainers really are the most hideous things (for me that would be the brothel creeper) but wouldn't it be a dull world if we all liked the same thing.

However I do think that a wedge boot is a great addition to an A/W wardrobe and the best thing is that they'll keep you going through till Spring as well.  Perfect with my beloved skinny jean but also great under wide legs, cigarette legs, bootcut and even a maxi skirt.

So here is a round up of some on the market that have caught my eye . Now randomly they're all suede.  I didn't set out to specifically look for suede and they're not the most practical but these days, some great protective sprays means that they're not a no no anymore.   I think maybe in leather, they're just a bit too clunky - certainly the ones in leather that look good are a much more delicate, dressy looking boot.  So here we have a sweetie box of suede goodies.

These from M&S are great.  In fact, I'm going to see if I can track them down instore in the black - I think they're very Camilla Skovgaard but for £35, yes please, they'd be my preference!   A brave choice in the pale grey (get spraying with the protector girls) but a really easy, wearable wedge.  I'd also wear these with a shorter dress actually.

Monsoon have a great tan suede option - The Leon Boot (spray spray spray!!)

A very simple, stylish and cleancut black option is available at Bertie

If you're looking for more detail, I'm really partial to these from Dune - the Pope.  I'd say definitely for trousers and maybe under a maxi.

Lovely back detail

If buckles are your thing then I think these from Kurt Geiger are cute - the Stefani.   Of course being KG they're not cheap and come in at £140.

These with a western style stitch detailing might float your boat - good heel height for every day - the Sugar from Kurt Geiger.

But these - Wish boots - are one of my faves obviously as they're completely impractical for every day at 12cm!  Wedge or no wedge that would equal pain at the end of a day on your feet.

And in an even more impractical colour combo - Camel.

If you're looking for a different colour, then Dickins & Jones at House of Fraser have the Polleta boot.

Moving on to lace ups - I have to say I would definitely be checking out the black and burgundy ones I listed yesterday from Primark.

A very similar option is available from Dune - the Petworth D boot.  In black, burgundy or tan.   Have to say personally I prefer the Primark ones.  These wouldn't float my boat personally but I can see that they would definitely suit a certain style - very Ali McGraw.  Yum.

If these are your thing then it's also worth looking at Clarks - they have some very similar ones which are even lower I think - the Yarra Desert boot.  Again, not my personal bag but I bet they'd be comfy.

A version that I find more interesting are these Rodeo D boots, again the same crepe sole style from Dune again.  These would be more along the lines of what I would personally prefer but I will absolutely admit that they're a smidge high at 11cm for a long day.

I am still in Wedge trainer hell. (ever the dramatic, me)  Duh.  Definitely sending the Matalan wedges back.  Decided that I don't want a full on plum colour but would like a more neutral colour with a plum accent - ie I've managed to talk myself into the Ash ones.  That, thanks to a fantastic comment left by someone, I've found!  Now do I order them or wait until I've been to Bicester... Oh decisions decisions.

Anyway, I hope that gives those of you who weren't interested in a wedge trainer, something wedgey to think about.

Fantastic day today - school coffee morning, fitting for a charity fashion show coming up and a 40th birthday lunch for a lovely friend of mine.  Kids had playdates here for tea so the peace ended at pick up and the carnage began.  Thank heavens it's still decent weather and they can all run around like loons in the garden.

  1. Finally logged back into my Blogger so I can comment rather than reply via Twitter in 140 characters or less! I didn't make it to Primark today but I agree, their wedges do look slightly nicer, photo wizardry taken into account of course :-) Hoping to get into town next week for a root round, our Primark isn't too jumble saley luckily!

  4. Brothel creeper is a new term to me so I had to google it. Blurgh. Vile disgusting things.

I'm looking forward to trying some wedges this autumn. I've got my eye on the Next ones. Got huge trotters so I'm hoping there will be some 9s left. I'm not brave enough for suede even with the protective spray.

  6. I have a question! Why do you say that 11 or 12 cm wedges are too high for everyday use, when the Ash Thelmas are 10 cm and yet you say you wear them a lot? I'm just curious as you're entirely to blame for my latest crush on wedge trainers:) I think if I were to buy the Ash (I wish) I'd go for the Genial, as the height seems more forgiving for wearing all day long

  7. Hi Kat, I found you via a Twitter "follow" recommendation... so glad I found you, your About details sound so similar to mine! I'm Catherine (used to be called Cat but not so much now), have just turned 40, I'm originally from the home counties (Surrey/Berkshire), and started blogging to document my style as I was approaching 40 and beyond. =Spooky=

Anyway I love your writing and your style - you look fabulous in skinnies and I must get me one of those bags! Looking forward to looking through more of your outfits... also following you now. If you get a chance to drop by my blog and say hello that'd be great :)

  8. Hi Kat, I have the Bertie black suede wedge boot which I bought last year. I had so much wear out of them and lots of compliments about them. I wore them in the day as I found the heel a good height for me and (more importantly) I could walk in them - probably because they are wedge. I am planning to wear them again this season - after a bit of sprucing up with the suede brush (suede seems to get a battering and a bit worn looking) but I am determined to get another year out of them as I love them so much.

  10. Hi Kat, Am loving the first tan ones but can i get over the suede issue?? Not sure. Have to thank you for getting off my butt and out of my 'uniform'. My winter was always dominated by Uggs and Converse. So I have, only today, bought not one BUT three pairs of ankle boots with heels....... bloody hell i nearly fainted at my own bravery! Now I just have to wear them... By the way, have been desperately trying to find that amazing sequin blazer you have. Can't find one that doesn't remind my of my Gran in the 80's! Can you help?

    Lisa x

PS totally love the blog by the way. x

    1. Ditto regarding the sequin blazer!! I too have admired Kat's blazer (which is from Zara I believe) and have been trolling the internet and shops trying to find one. Not found anything really, apart from a French Connection sequin jacket in a pink/nude colour at£150.00. Am hoping that Zara will have some in the run-up to Christmas. PLEASE HELP KAT - have you seen any about that are similar to yours?? x

  12. For anyone wishing to purhase boots including ASH ones there is a two day event sale on @ House of Fraser. John Lewis are doing a price match too. Very tempted now to get the ASH BEA in tan - suede and leather!! 20% off - not to be sniffed at and makes the Ash wedge trainer a bit more affordable. x
