Someone has let Bob loose on the jumper trail.

As clearly this is not normal me shopping.  It can't be.

Because the selection of jumpers that have been catching my eye have on them.... wait for it..... drum roll.........animal motifs.  Yup you read that correctly.   Animals.  Not animal print but actual pictures of them.  Now I am positive that on the days when the usual me goes shopping, I wouldn't give a second glance at a jumper with the head of some random creature emblazoned on the front.  I am 39 not 3 and 9 months.  I do not have clothes with pictures on - scarves don't count.  (my daughter, even at eight, is still most disappointed that I don't have pictures on my pants...)

But we are obviously at that time of the season (or should I say month. hmmmm) where Bob rears his ugly head, takes full control and decides that he gets to decide what exactly is missing from my wardrobe.

Now I'm not convinced that it's an animal motif jumper.   Anyone who follows my blog knows that this breaks every rule that I set myself for how to spend my wardrobe budget (which I am the first to admit are moveable feasts - the rules or the budget?  Between you and me, clearly both.)

Will I get to wear it a lot?  Probably not as it's so distinctive.  Will it last more than one season?  Probably not but it may come back into fashion in the next 20 years.  Am I able to wear it out at night and during the day?  Suffice to say no.  And still I persist....... (you now see why I think Bob is the culprit?)

My budget this year is seemingly very squeezed - I still have a coat purchase to make and there is the small matter of a wedding I have to go to.  Next week.  Dear god, it's next week.  I am in need of a Dress.  Which I am conveniently completely ignoring at the moment.  Let's not go there. (breathe deeply, breathe deeply)  At this moment in time it honestly makes more sense to talk about animal motif jumpers - that's how bad it is.

So moving on to my random new obsession.  That of having a massive image of some strange being on your front.  Obviously.

Will I actually purchase one? Hmmmm, well I will let you into a small secret and say that I may have the first two sitting upstairs in a Next bag.  I haven't tried them on yet as I'm giving it a couple of days to see whether it's me or Bob shopping.  What do you think?  Have I completely lost the plot and regressed to being 5?  I know there are oodles of them around (and some of them scarily expensive courtesy of Mulberry, Burberry, Sonia Rykiel etc)

Ok so let's crack on with the hilarity.  I'm probably the only one not laughing.  I am a teensy bit/a lot in love....

So firstly from Next.  I have purchased the fox one.  Even Bob draws the line at the fake Snowy from Tintin version.  No recognisable cartoon characters.  It can surely only be one small step away from Peppa Pig.  Which for an adult is wrong on every level.

I am also irrationally drawn to this one - a sweatshirt so definitely on the casual side of things.  The jury is out.  It looks completely differently online  I would say it's deffo grey as opposed to oatmeal and the shape is far boxier than it looks online.  Do I "need" it.....   Will my life be better with it?

Interestingly there is a much more expensive one from Jaeger so maybe I'm not as barking as it appears.  Flocked Deer Print Sweatshirt.   I actually think I prefer the Next one.

Right from the sublime to the ridiculous.  I promise you (well Bob promises you) that this is better in real life than it looks online.  If jumpers with birds on are your thing that is.  Sequin birds at that.  Not entirely convinced I'm appealing to the widest audience here.  But just in case.

I will admit that my first inkling of "oooh perhaps...." (clearly at the same time last month) was when the Aubin & Wills book (they have some fancy name for it - to the rest of us heathens, it's a catalogue.  Almanac I think they call it? Yeah right.  All that translates to me is "expensive".)

However I have to say this did make me drool somewhat.  Never did I think I would actually contemplate purchasing it mind.  Yet here we are.....  The Portland Jumper

Jaeger do also have a horse one which I have to say I much prefer to their sweatshirt attempt at animal motifery. (a word I may just have made up)  Do I love it £180 worth?  I'm going with probably not.  However the more I look at it, the more I love it and it may well make it onto my sales list.  Should I decide that it's not just a fad.

Finally, have saved my fave till last.  The Whistles Antelope Sweater  Sequinned.  Bliss.  Bling.  Bob loves it.

So will you be hunting out your animalistic side this year?  Have you already made a cheeky purchase?  Or do you think it will be a total one season wonder?  To be completely honest, if money were no object, I'd love to let my inner animal loose, but I do think that I'm probably more likely to buy something that will be much more flexible in my wardrobe.  This rule is definitely made for breaking every now and again but I think there are probably other occasions when I'll be more likely to break it.  But would just love to hear your thoughts!  Please do email or leave a comment.

Now a round up of what I have been wearing - huge apologies for not having been around for a whole week.  It's been Rugrat 2's birthday, plus RR1 went away for Brownie Pack Holiday.  And finally RR3 has started full time school.  I should theoretically be drowning in free time (according to The Husband).  errrr

I have to say not a fan of the deer or fox ones but did buy an Owl one which I adore and as it was only £10 from Asda who cares if it s only one season!

And yes, if you don't spend much on it and you like it, like you say who cares it if it's a one season wonder. x

  3. The words that sprang to mind with the first fox one were 'wolf fleece' (ring any bells?) I don't mind the stags, but the foxes give me the heeby jeebies. The horse one is nice.

    1. I also do very little pattern normally - I save it for scarves. But am a huge huge stripe fan!

Anonymous 14.04 back again - something happened my ipad - with the exception of scarves as I was saying I barely wear patterns - I couldn't face all the comments I would get - like oh a fox on your jumper etc But I think you could pull it off! Hurry up with that coat blog and the going out with the girls but not full on glamour ( I previously requested this in another comment!) love your blog & style!

  9. I like the fox one. But I am biased as (a) I like foxes, in jumper guise, or wherever; and (b) I have a Joules 'pheasant' one sitting in a drawer waiting for its moment to shine. My equivalent of Bob persuaded me to buy it last year an it's never yet been worn...

Relieved that even 'Bob' draws the line at the cartoon character; for one scary moment, I thought you'd bought *both* of the sweaters in your first picture!

    1. hmmm you see everyone has an inner Bob. I saw the Joules ones but they looked a bit fitted for my personal liking? and with a random band round one wrist?

I'm drawing a line under them and banishing Bob till he reappears next month...

  10. Big no to the first two Next jumpers - too cartoonish for me, but like the deer. I've just caved to the owl trend with this:

  11. Looking forward to coat blog - sorry these animal prints are not for me at all. Think they will be a one-season wonder for grown-ups then go back to being the domain of kids. No wonder you're so attached to the Anya Hindmarch bag - it's a beauty.

  15. if anybody can pull off the animal-jumper look it will be you - but no, sorry, not a look I could ever go for! I think that having a big face on your front will detract from the rest of your outfit and indeed your own face!

    1. That's very sweet thank you but nope, shan't be partaking this season!

  16. Have to say that I think animal prints on jumpers should be left to the under 10s. Really don't get this look at all. I wonder too, given that you always wear scarves, would the animal motif even be seen on you?

    1. Well exactly! And anyway it would be pattern overload. Am not partaking! x

  18. Another one who doesn't like the animal faces either. It's a bit well, fashion victim-y if you've never hankered after a kid's animal face top - maybe you have?! - kind of begs the question: why start now? I could be missing the point though and, of course, each to their own.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don't mind them as much as you do! And yes, I probably wanted one as a child and was denied. But shan't be partaking despite still quite liking them - have better things to spend my budget on! And yes, wouldn't it be a dull world if we all liked the same thing xxx

  20. urgh no! I am 38 not 10 - animal pictures on grown woman are in the same league as ballet pumps no one over the age of 10 should wear them! Just because it is fashion doesn't make it right! x

    1. Ha ha ha!! Now you see I don't mind ballet pumps either (although don't wear them v often) Each to their own!! xx

  22. So I was going with a no to animal tops until I paid a visit to Next today, fox jumper is much better in the flesh.
Although I was a little worried by jumper fabric, it looks like it would shed everywhere and you would be constantly rubbing it off the shirt part.
Let me know if I'm wrong, I may just have to partake in this one season trend!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No you're absolutely right, it would be a nightmare and shred everywhere. It's much better in the flesh tho isn't it? But no, it would drive you bonkers!

  23. why not? everyone needs to unleash their inner fashion victim sometimes! can you find some wool sweaters for us to drool over? I cannot wear anything synthetic next to my skin, or I end up in a ball of sweat. It's proving difficult to find some nice ones this year.
    love from the emerald isle.....

    1. Hmm interesting as I struggle with a lot of wool - find it very itchy. What sort of jumpers are you looking for? I'll have a look and will do one in the next couple of weeks xxx

  24. Hello! Of all the ones you featured I liked the horse one the best. Saw a fox jumper in Joules today that I was strangely drawn to but probably won't buy as not brave enough. Still scarred from the memories of owning a handknitted pink jumper covered with rows of symmetrical blue rabbits when I was about 12. Can you imagine the horror?! x

    1. Hello you!! Nope I had one of those jumpers with frogs on. Black with green frogs. I also had a reversible Mickey Mouse sweatshirt - big Mickey on one side - myriad of Mickeys on the other. And I loved it!!!

  25. You know I like you best when you're a bit scruffy so my fave outfit is the one with pink bag & pink camel scarf. Also love the jumper with the horse on it but have DEF seen a cheaper version! Must investigate.
