All out comfort

Spring schming.  It looks like it might actually snow tomorrow.  I am all about the warmth.  And the comfort.

You may have noticed that for the past three days (actually make that five now I think about it) I have been wearing... joggers.  Yes, cuffed jogging bottoms.  Actually to be fair, the faux leather joggers don't have elasticated cuffs but they do have a stretchy waist and that, my friends, on a cold, sleety, ridiculously windy day is what you want to wear, having walked the dog, done the chores, curled up on the sofa working (I am lucky - I get to work from home mostly..).

They also happen to be magically on trend.  However I will fess up.  The fact I have been collecting them and wearing them on practically a daily basis is definitely more by luck than judgement.  I am basically turning into Waynetta Slob.  And I don't care.  As these are rather fabulous.  They also look great with my beloved sneakers and no, I don't intend to break into a sweat whilst wearing these.

How do I like to wear mine?  Well - a bit like my sweatshirt affair a couple of years ago, I like wearing them with a contrasting style top.  ie not a sweatshirt.  I've a hunch that trying to avoid the full on trackie look is probably the way to go.  So team with a shirt and crew neck knit, cashmere jumper, tee and blazer.  Smarten the top and no one will notice that you're wearing virtually your jamas.  I've been wearing with various pair of trainers but I am going to give them a go with my ankle boots too...

And to prove they work with boots.

Raven Biker Sweatpants from All Saints  £98

Black at New Look for a bargain starter price.

New Look Jersey Joggers £9.99

Grey Slim Supersoft Joggers from River Island £30 (I think I'd probably size up in these as I think they do look better on the slouchy side.  My inner slob is strong...)

Paler grey at Topshop and these almost have a vintage feel about them.  And how I adore this jumper.  The 80s have called.  They want their knitwear back.  But they can't have it.  I want it.  If you changed the yellow for red and the cream for pale grey, I swear my brother had this print as wallpaper.

Brushed Joggers from Topshop £28

I have these in the charcoal from three years ago and they are still going strong.  These in olive are definitely on my wish list.

hush long harem trousers in olive £49.50

Ok so I might be taking the theme a tad too far here but I think with a cream or grey cashmere or chunky wool jumper - or even skinny polo neck, grey cocoon coat, these could work and not have a hint of "active wear" about them.  I appreciate, these are the punchy option.

Colour Block Joggers from Topshop £28

Or in the pale pink.  Ok so she does look like she's about to start a Body Attack class but I still maintain these could work on a daily basis.. I'm going to throw it out there that I would be ditching the cropped top.  For the school run at least (well.. we've seen how toned my stomach is so let's just say there won't be a blog on these sorts of tops any time soon.  ie ever).

In the pink from Topshop £28

Cropped joggers now.

ASOS Contrast Side Stripe Jogger £28

On a roll with the side stripe.. these are in Tall from Topshop.  *sits on hands...*.  I love the idea of these not being cuffed actually but being full length as this is a complete novelty for those of us with daddy long legs who can never find trousers that are long enough to not be cropped.  Ever.

Tall Side Stripe Joggers from Topshop £28 I would happily wear these with a blazer to deShameless them.

Others which aren't cuffed but are definitely "track pants" (as they call them.  To be fair, that does sound vaguely more cosmopolitan than joggers which I will admit does have more than a scent of Vicky Pollard about it).

But if they're good enough for Jigsaw...

Wool Herringbone Track Pants £79

And then some other fabrics.

These I have been living in.  Too good for me not to mention again.

ASOS faux leather joggers in tall - every now and again these do come back into stock so stalk them if you want a pair.  Were £35 now £21  These are the ones I live in.

And in the regular.  These are still £35 but they are so worth it, I promise.

ASOS Leather look joggers £35

And I know they're all sorts of wrong but I still love them in the pink... £35

Now these are an unusual one... trousers style at the top but cuffed at the bottom.

Helmut Lang Women's Solar Drape Trousers in navy were £250 now £125

Similar shape at Jigsaw but in a different fabric.  Adore these.

Flannel Tailored Joggers from Jigsaw in Charcoal were £110 now £77

Crepe at Whistles (don't forget the 25% off.. WH25SS16).  Alas they don't seem to do jersey anymore.  To my meeting in London on Monday I wore my Lola jersey Whistles joggers.  Not something I'd ever thought I'd do but that's how ubiquitous they've become these days.

Helena Crepe Trousers £120

And in the black

But my current favourite pair are wool.  Yes I have cashmere which I was sent by Wyse London to "try".  Let's say, converted (not bad for a rugby loather, no?).  I love these.  I love the versatility of them, I love the comfort and, shock horror, every member of the family loves them.  Having done a dog walk in the lashing rain and it's completely grim out there.  There is nothing better than coming home and snuggling up in a pair that could, let's be frank, be luxury nightwear.

Lucie lounger with stripes from Wyse London £165

More at Jigsaw.

Merino Knitted Joggers in Squirrel (I might just have to buy these as that's the coolest colour name ever) were £98 now £49

And here in mine.  Teamed today with an ancient navy polo neck and check coat from a couple of years ago.  Obligatory Stans.

Navy polo neck - Zara
Navy Lucie loungers - Wyse London
Navy check coat - Hobbs
White cracked leather Stan Smiths - adidas
Haworth black leather bag - Village England

So has anyone else taken to sporting their joggers as legitimate daily trouser wear?  Currently my favourite (and most comfortable, of this there is no arguing) style of trousers.  Or are they still very much "active wear" in your book? (even if there is no real activity undertaken in your active wear..?!)  Or, even worse, jamas?

I will completely fess up that I did used to wear my Whistles ones (I have the grey Lolas as well) as loungewear but have promoted them back up to day *leave the house with make up on* wear.  I am now wondering if I'm losing my mind with the pink pleather jobs... (written like that, they do somewhat lose their appeal... but black silk blouse, black blazer, stilettos for evening, no?!)

  1. Love my trackies/joggers but only tend to wear as loungewear, normally after I've killed myself in the gym in Lycra! Must say I'm tempted by the ASOS pleather ones, thought they were ace when I saw them on your IG the other week but so far I'm resisting. They look amazing though ...

    1. Mine are a size 2. Which I would say is a large 10... I'm usually a 28 in Topshop Jeans, 27 in all other jeans, a 10 in Boden jeans, NOT a 10 in H&M jeans... Pretty much always a 10 on the bottom. Hope that helps. I'm now thinking how useful the black with silver would be...!

  4. Hi Kat loving this article X I spotted the hush ones the other day as the spring catalogue was delivered quite convenient before Mother's Day!! ( have my eye on the scarves) any ways I fancy the lounge pants but not sure on the sizing ? Amd whether in reality are they a touch mc hammer ? As wonderful as they look on the model ! Any suggestions ? I'm a size 12 bottom and 10 top ( those pesky child bearing thighs and cushion bottom )

  5. Love a jogger but my whistles jersey pair have bagged so much at the knee they are only fit for lounging or running from car to gym! I have had the crepe pair from whistles for a couple of years and love them. Wear with GGs or Nike all the time. Love your cashmere pair. Do they bag at all?

    1. Ps. Can you ask Hush to record some of your evening and post online so those of us that can't come can have a little taster?

    2. That's sad about your Lolas. Mine are fine actually and I've spent the last year with them on every night, curled up on the sofa! Good to know the Whistles ones are good. The cashmere ones I've worn twice and haven't bagged yet... I'm hanging out for a black pair now.. I think with a white tee and a blazer in the summer.. OMG!

  6. I have no chance of getting to your Hush talk but would also love a recording!!
I've had the Hush harems a few times and they are quite generous in their size, I have a small, I'm a size 10 and they are pretty roomy so I think as a 12 you'd be fine Hafmai.
Kat, I can literally no longer resist the ASOS pleather joggers, try as I may - you've plugged them well and I am now in submission!
I too, work from home so see little point in anything other than active wear for work and school run! But mine is more what I've found in the floor and is fairly devoid of style so you are inspiring me to combine the two!
Great blog, look forward to reading it at the end of each day

    2. I promise you, you won't regret the joggers and you will see why I REALLY want the pink ones now too!! I have to say - general active wear, as in stuff you "could" be active in like proper gym wear, I hate with a total passion and put them on the min before I do exercise and take them off five mins afterwards.... Feel so self conscious in them! But joggers and a jumper.. that I can do!

  7. Gap do gorgeous knitted joggers which Alex from the frugality posted about before Christmas. I ordered online and wore them for 3 days solid on arrival. So comfy. I haven't smartened them up with heeled ankle boots and jacket yet but it could well work.

  8. I LOVE all my joggers and have ahem, quite a few! I also have the Whistles Lola from a few years ago but I've worn them so much, they are thinning in the knees and they dont sell them anymore - alas. I have a great pair from Sweaty Betty (merino rthymn pants) which are sooo comfortable, cannot recommend highly enough. I also have the Hush harems and now hankering after the khaki too.

I've just looked on asos at the leather joggers but they're sold out in my size, dammit! I also think I'll try on the whistles crepe trousers this weekend - I have some Jigsaw pants just like these but they have bagged out around the bum and dont look flattering so I think it's time to get some new ones!

Kat - just wanted to say that it's your fault I decided to buy some dungarees. I started off hating them (reminding me of what I wore in the 80s) and then as the days passed, decided that I needed a pair in my life. I ended up buying the vintage blue ones from Fat Face and I love them. They are too comfortable. I do wonder if I look like a childrens TV presenter in them but I dont care, they are so comfortable and they're great for tinkering around the house in and playing outside with my little boy :-)

    1. OMG TOO SPOOKY!! check out what I'm wearing today.. Although randomly I think they're too long and i'm going to have them shortened. If you only knew how much of a novelty it is for me to type that!

  11. I love the idea of joggers, not sure I could pull them off though. I'd definitely go for a cuffed version, but not in jersey as I know the knees would get all baggy.
I do have dress pants with go faster stripes, and these get dressed down with sneakers and my trusty leather moto.

    1. LOVE dress pants like that. Love love love. I have black ones which I adore and need to wear more. Loving the idea of a white jumper with them. I can foresee white being a big part of my S/S wardrobe!

  12. Love my cuffed joggers I’ve invested heavily in them over the last couple of years, adore them! I keep several pairs for home & several for wearing outside which include the Adidas style retro stripe as well as some plain black & charcoal ones & a pair of pleather joggers; they’re so comfy for driving in etc. & when you’re sitting down in a coffee shop; I like you, struggle with jean sizes although I am very happy with my height/weight 5ft 7 & 8st 10, jean sizes at a 10 can be too tight? & 12 too big!! Where the hell do they get their sizings from? They’re so variable - you could say my size ranges from somewhere between an 8 to a 12 ! Don’t even get me started me on jeans zips!! These problems I do not have with joggers -elasticated heaven all the way!!

I very rarely comment on your blog but felt compelled to on the jeans/jogger issue & agree with another blogger who mentioned the possibility of posting your fashion evening on line? Although I live in Kent too, to get up to town for a couple of hours one evening sadly would be a little difficult (even if tickets still avail) x

    1. oh My GOD I am so with you on the random sizings. Did you see me in the size 10 H&M jeans. BOAK. This is now a WEEK that i have been wearing joggers and trainers. I may actually be turning into a teenager.... ish....

Now I'm not sure that they can post it online but I've promised that I will write a blog post for their blog about what I talk about and will also post on here xxx

  13. I was so desperate to love the River Island faux leather joggers - size 8 fitted perfectly but then I looked at the rear view mirror. Am I the only one that think joggers make your bum look bigger than it should? Quickly took them off and very sadly sent them back.

    1. Well. I am fortunate.. (??!) in that I don't have a bum. A rounded pert bum that is. Over the years, it's travelled down my thighs in a sort of not very attractive mud slide effect. Which means that I don't really have an issue with things that make my bum look bigger. Anything that highlights the wine tyre around my waist is out though.

      Delete
    2. Wine Tyre - bahahahahahha, brilliant. Am defo going to use that phrase! Up there with 'lady petrol' i.e. wine. Happy Friday, Audrey x

  16. I managed to find a similar sort of thing that is just smart enough for the office - crease proof and with the all important elastic waist (lived in them for a few weeks whilst putting a deal to bed so they've been tested by being slept in and survived still looking ok the next day) http://www.hotsquash.com/warm/trousers/slouch.html

Guess what? This is exactly what big companies are paying for. They need to know what their customer needs and wants. So large companies pay $1,000,000's of dollars each month to the average person. In return, the average person, like me and you, answers some questions and gives them their opinion.
