Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me.....

..Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me! (no candles - we don't want to risk starting an epic fire)

Even though it's not my birthday.  That was in January.  In fact, we're a shed load nearer to my next one than my last one.  But I haven't yet had a present from this year - I've been saving it (I think anyway - I'll admit I did say it very quickly and under my breath and maybe the rugby may have been on, as I swiped The Husband's credit card...).

And so a trip to Bicester at the weekend with my two fabulous girlies was the time to play my Birthday trump card.

I did have a wish list.  I find that with Bicester, if you don't go with a vague wish list, it's very easy to get swayed by a "bargain".  This is especially dangerous after a glass of wine (or more if you're not driving) and bargain shopping becomes bargain drunk aka disaster shopping.

I was in the market for a new handbag - colour I was open on - maybe a light caramel, a black or a plum colour.  Boots were on the wishlist.  The elusive tan ankle boot is becoming my achilles heel (boom boom) of the season but I was also looking for a black heeled boot as well, ideally for the evening.  I was also in the market for a new scarf - one with plum/mulberry in it as my accent colour this season.   Oh and a Michael Kors watch - I'd love a tortoise shell one.  So not much then.

With a list that big and specific, I fully expected to come back with diddly squat.  Tis always the way with Bicester - if there are things that you "need" (clearly need in the loosest sense of the word) then the law of the sod says you come back with nada.  But if you go with either an empty purse or nothing in mind, then you always see a whole host of perfect things.

But I had the luck of the shopping gods on my side and huzzah!

Absolute result.

First up, new handbag.  I have loved this Anya Hindmarch satchel since she bought it out but  couldn't justify it at full price.  Plus I'm not sure if I remember seeing it in the stone colour.  However for half price - well happy days!  Am totally over the moon with it.  It goes really well with my Ash Thelma wedges (I'll hold my hands up as I'm not sure I have before, and say that I am a sucker for matching bag and shoes.  Completely not for everybody but it makes it so much easier to tie an outfit together.  I shall maybe blog on it if anyone's interested!).  And it also is a light shade which ties in with my Acne Cypress boots as well (not the same shade exactly but they go well together)

Also works in the S/S - am completely loving it.

The tan boots were proving to be yet again, totally elusive.  So, these fell into my possession instead.  I had planned on wearing them for the evening and I will be able to but they are so comfortable with a hidden platform and rubber sole, that I wore them today and they will be a staple A/W day boot.  Perfect with my new Anya bag as well.  Tan boot - you are no longer needed.  (of course this does mean that all I shall see now is a plethora of fabulous tan boots.  Balls)

Now this wasn't on my list but I know it's going to come in exceptionally useful for both day (dressy day - fab for a lunch out) and night.  Clutch bag from Tory Burch.  Again, goes really well with the above boots and perfect for the wedding which shall remain nameless which may or may not be less than three weeks away.  Gulp.  I thought that all my fashionable friends would know Tory Burch but one of my besties really showed her true colours when said she thought the logo looked familiar.  "Oh not Tory Burch though - it looks like Take That".  Hmmmmmmmm

So all in all, a very successful trip.   Definitely worth going and even better, we stayed over on the Saturday night.  On the downside, the shopping was so fabulous, the food and wine flowed a tad too much and we completely forgot to take any outfit photographs.  Bum bum bum.

But here is a quick round up of what I've been wearing bar the weekend!

Nude oversized jumper - H&M
Nude and black poncho - H&M
Black coated skinnies - Cos
Black Madonna stud wedge trainers - Ash
Black Faridah hobo bag - Marc by Marc Jacobs

Now I did go out for dinner with The Husband on Thursday night - a belated anniversary dinner which turned into a far more drunken night than we'd anticipated. We had a fantastic time though with old and some new friends but boy did I feel shabby the next day.

Had a MacMillan coffee morning for which I had made my usual malteser and chocolate finger cake (I'm going to do the same for RR2 for his birthday on Saturday so will pap then) and basically ate my body weight in cake in an attempt to feel human.  Shameful.  A great great cause though, we raised an excellent amount of money and a good time was had by all.

Black vest - Primark
Black oversized jersey tee with cream arms - Cos
Leopard print jeans - Primark
Black velvet slippers - Primark

Saturday is a blank as mentioned, but this is coming home on Sunday.

Blush, khaki and cream snakeskin scarf - M&S
Khaki zip skinnies - By Malene Birger

And today - a fabulous day at a great local restaurant where I was in a charity fashion show - more pics to come!

  1. Love those outfits - especially the last two, pink blazer, khaki trouser & scarf combo is gorgeous. Great new purchases, boots & Anya Hindmarch bag are fab. I am a real match bag to shoes too , I think it pulls it together also - my mum always says a bag that doesn't match - murders! Can you do some outfit ideas for casual smart nights out? For example dinner/drinks with girlfriendsI find I can do casual quite well (thanks to you) but smart casual eludes me -I always look like I am off to a cocktail party! What colour car did you get by the way?

    1. They're ok under normal jeans - too bulky under my coated jeggings but other than that, really pleased with them. They're v narrow in the leg for most boots. xxx

  5. Love the boots - hopefully more longevity in leather toes/heels than if they were all suede. And the bag is to die for - not a colour I would have gone for but I love it and now realise there is a stone-coloured-handbag hold in my wardrobe!

    1. Hopefully they will, yes.

And yes, I didn't realise how useful a stone bag was until I had one. Honestly goes with everything. I would say even more useful than a tan bag. Stone the crows! xx

  6. beautiful clothes as ever, but I am afraid I am yet again noticing your house - this time, the chair! The chair is stunning. I'm afraid I have chair envy even more than boot envy!

    1. Love it! The bench or the chair? The bench is an antique one I snaffled from ebay years ago when you used to be able to get furniture bargains from there. And the chair is from Ilva which has long closed down unfortunately. Thank you though, really sweet of you! xx

  9. Hi Kat, very jealous of your bag - love, love, love it!! Great colour and shape. Also jealous you've been to Bicester Village. I only get to go once a year, as I live in the south west. However, always love going there, even if I don't buy much. Planning to go soon, so hopefully I will be lucky and pick up some wonderful things too. Like you (and others it seems) I must match my bag and footwear - always have. x

    1. Yay another matchy matchy! Just makes it easier to look polished I think. It's an hour and a half for me so we only get there a couple of times a year as well. Can either be great or a disaster but this time, definitely a winner. Hope you're as lucky!

  17. OMG - I think I saw you at Bicester Village early Sat evening!! I nearly came over to say hello & gush profusely for helping to get me excited about fashion again but a) thought you might think I was a mad crazy stalker-type lady and b) wasn't 100% convinced it was you (were you wearing blue jacket & your Ash wedges?). Anyway, what I would have said is a big, big thank you. I had my second baby ten months ago and have been stuck in a post-natal frump fest but since discovering your blog a few weeks ago I've started to get soooo excited about actually making an effort to look good & now lie awake at night planning outfits (sad moi?). I feel I'm finally starting to get my mojo back and I can't thank you enough. Love from your Stalker xxx PS - do you have any good tips on how you actually organise your clothes & accessories? As my shopping sprees intensify (!), the toughest challenge I'm finding is how to store everything so I can easily see what goes with what & not just reach for quick 'safe' outfits because they're easy to grab in the morning...
