Amendment Number One.

Ok so we all sort of knew this was coming, didn't we?

This three a month purchase.  Right.  I'm loving the premise behind it, I think it's a fantastic idea.  In theory.  January was a breeze to be fair (I'm thinking perhaps this may have been as I did have a couple of beauties that I snagged in December in the sales - although only a couple to be fair  - Zara coat and navy coated skinnies and Reiss sandals)

February has been more of a challenge - I am totally blaming all the new season stuff that is around and not my absolutely pathetically, woeful willpower.  Not at all.

Actually I will shoulder part of the blame for not thinking this through properly.  I was very hasty in my blanket "three things" allowance.

Hence I am introducing Amendment Number One.  For anyone who knows me, this coming at the end of February (we shall gloss over the fact that a) it's not actually the end of Feb yet and b) Feb is a rather short month) is quite impressive.  The fact that I didn't cave at the beginning of Feb is a minor miracle.

The first Amendment shall be that the three items need not include accessories.   One accessory may be purchased each month.

Which is handy as today I *may* have purchased two accessories (one for Jan and one for Feb - moves swiftly on) and I am absolutely over the moon with both of them.

Firstly, the singular most genius accessory I have come across in forever.  I'm saying this before I've actually worn it but I'm planning on giving an airing tomorrow so watch this space.  However I did try it on instore and whilst that clearly isn't giving it a proper trial, I have high, high hopes.

May I introduce you to the mock shirt.

Textured Mock Shirt by Cos £29.99

I need say nothing more about it until I try it on.  But in lieu of a necklace, I think this is Pure Genius.

And my second item of du jour, is a hat.  I papped this initially last week when I first saw it and haven't stopped thinking about it since.  I was the biggest fan of my hats last Summer, in particular my straw Trilby which was in fact a TKMaxx bargain but I've never really got to grips with Winter hats.

However last week on my jaunt round M&S, I stumbled (literally, well not literally but I wasn't looking for it) across the old lady hat section.  And to be honest, most of them are very old lady.

But I thought I'd give this one a go and hey presto, I am pretty darn pleased with it.

Here it is online - Pure Wool Buckle Trilby Hat £25 (young lady in random clothes - some things never change.  I love her "dear god take the photo quickly" face)

This is me papping it last week.  Now honest to god, I have a very large head.  Literally, not figuratively (ahem she says writing a blog about herself).   Normally they sit on top of my nonce, comedy style but I could actually have even bought the S/M.  It was snug but certainly not tight tight.  I ended up with the M/L as I normally end up giving myself a migraine with small hats and didn't want to risk it.

And here I am today with my new purchase.  I am very very pleased with it and even though I'm not entirely sure how often I'm going to be wearing it, the kid (critical 9yr old who has mastered the "pity" look at a scarily young age) didn't laugh at it.  Which is a first.  I shall try to wear it often.

So here is my outfit for a day in London.  Had the most exciting meeting which I hope to bringing you more info on shortly but super interesting, that's for sure!

Black zip polo neck - Zara
Indigo Baxters - Topshop
Green boiled wool coat - Zara
Leopard print loafers - Zara
Black Diego - Alexander Wang
Camel trilby - M&S

Now I've not mentioned the thorny matter of shoes as part of the three a month challenge.  I'm not going say there isn't another Amendment coming on but is there any point in having Amendment One if there isn't an Amendment Two? (and no I haven't bought any shoes.  Yet)

Hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine today - it was gorgeous, wasn't it?  I can't believe that it's going to pour with rain for the next two days.  (shelves hat idea until it stops raining)

  2. Thank god for that as I succumbed to a beautiful scarf today and was wondering how I could justify it - now I don't need to - perfect. Love the hat too.

  4. Your first two amendments have been passed and approved - obviously, for research purposes only and to help us all in our quest for great finds, it is agreed that any further amendments may be approved too. Why not just set a budget and then you can try to buy as many items within that budget per month or carry forward unused budget to the following month. Or reduce kids/hubby's clothing allowance and add on to yours!!!! (Joke). Loving the hat, by the way. Some people are just great with hats - I unluckily am not one of them.

    1. Loving your ideas.... And yes, I have thought about a budget but it was more about not amassing loads of stuff but really only adding vital bits to my wardrobe. I'm hoping that it being the beginning of the season, I obviously have magpie eyes but I'm still going to try to stick to less is more. A budget would mean licence to buy bags of stuff from H&M as it's "a bargain"........ Nooooooooooooooooo!!!

    1. They always have amazing stuff. And it lasts - everything I have from there, I've had for years and years. Can't wait to wear the faux shirt tomorrow. Ideal for not overheating with layers which is always such a prob for me!

  6. The hat looks great on you, Kat :-). I must tell you this, I hope you appreciate it! As you may remember I have been an avid reader of your blog since reading about it in the Essentails Magazine - I am hooked! Recently I was in a shop with my husband and said without really thinking, "I think that's something Kat might wear" when pointing to a top. He (obviously!) asked 'who's Kat?'! .... "It's the girl from that blog I read", "oh" (he said, with puzzled/worried look on face!). You mentioned your style crush on the Dr ....., I think I have a 'STYLE crush' on you (please note emphasis on the word 'style' ;-). ). Debbie :-)

  7. I love your site and think you look great. I have a question about the 3 things rule though. Why not just give yourself a clothing allowance for each month and not worry about the number of purchases and having to add amendments? Perhaps you have talked about this already, and I missed it?

    1. No this is something I haven't mentioned, but have definitely thought about (actually I may have mused about it = lord, I can't remember!) Anyway, I completely see where you're coming from but one of the problems I was having was with the general amassing of too much. And with a budget it's SO easy to go into H&M and acquire oodles of things. I want my wardrobe to be about wearing more of it and really thinking about what goes with what. I totally appreciate a budget may work for some people but for me, I know I wouldn't make good use out of it. Ideally I'm wanting it to be about quality not quantity. Does that make sense? (it does in my head!)

    2. Yes, it does make sense. In the end, it is all about what works best for you, and it sounds like you've figured it out!
      Love your blog.

    1. We were saying earlier - you do feel a right numpty when you first put it on but you just have to try and look as if it's meant to be there. Own it and you won't look a tool (that's my theory and I'm sticking with it....!)

  10. I will be checking out that hat. I also have a HUGE head so normally end up buying mens hats as ladies appear to come in only "one size"

    1. This is honestly massive. In fact I'm actually thinking I should possibly have gone for the smaller size but on the upside, this won't give me hat hair with my hair down. Can't wait to hear what you think!

  11. I think you also ought to create an amendment allowing for repurchasing of basics (she says having just bought some plain J Crew Ts for summer...)

  12. Honestly the bib is a GENIUS idea and looks amazing on. I didn't get round to wearing it today - change of outfit, but I am definitely wearing tomorrow. Watch and see!!

  13. You are my favourite blogger. Honestly. There is a quick-link--tab at the top of my Safari page saying "bum". Even when you say something is marmite, I usually see the attraction. But, seriously, a mock shirt? J Crew copies Marks & Sparks? www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-rich-mock-layered-shirt-jumper/p/p22242146

Anyway. You rock the hat. And that FWM coat would be a crime to miss. What's fashion without a little controversy?
