My pick of...

...what's new in at Mint Velvet.  I clearly bring you gifts - a 15% off code (NEWYORK15 with free delivery and free returns till the 30th Sep)

Ridiculously busy day for me today, up at the crack with the kids and then off to Ikea, Sports Direct, Home Sense, TK Maxx and The Range.   Absolutely exhausted.  It's the 10yr old's birthday on Friday and I had to pick her up a desk (plus chair, storage unit, pictures, clock and filing boxes)

Monumental meltdown from the 8yr old Aspie after school has left me now mentally shattered too so I'm sat down with a glass of wine and a laptop armed with my 15% off code and an appetite for Autumn.

Starting with a season necessity - boyfriend jeans. Now I don't need another pair of blue ones but if I did, these are exactly the ones I would buy.  Another reason for me just zoning out on the Mint Velvet website writing a wish list, as opposed to having to do anything taxing (like researching other jeans - I appreciate, we're hardly at thesis level here....) is........actually I'm that shattered that I've walked away from writing this, have come back to it and have NO idea what I was talking about at that point.  Which is probably reason in itself to just have a lust at all things new season. (and drink more wine.....)

Oh no, I remember (duh) - I am still looking for a grey or black version of these.  And can't find any at all.  Yawn.

Cary Distressed Boyfriend Jean £79

Moving onto their knitwear which I am currently obsessed with.  Have been eyeing up similar at Jigsaw but clearly I've been swayed by a tassel....not to mention the side zip...

Indigo Tassel Poncho £55

Whilst we're on the subject of tassels and fringing, this I love.  Gosh I love it.  My bestie has a Summer version of this from By Malene Birger which was about five times as much - but this in the winter, with a chunky shawl or cape over, I'm going with my porridge waxed skinnies and some ankle boots - oh hello....

Another great Autumn addition to your wardrobe would be this cardigan.  Would work perfectly as a cover up for this verging on chilly weather, instead of a full on coat.  When it does get a little bit cooler, just add a huge scarf and a couple of thin layers underneath.  So long as it doesn't rain, this will keep you going for months.

Vanilla Fringe Hem Cardigan £99

Another cardigan that's slightly thinner but still perfect for layering.  I shall definitely be exploring these more shortly....

Black Longline Cardigan £79

Moving onto other cover ups (yes I am obsessed with coats... I thought I might have got over the lust but no...I can't help it) and this is amazing.  Would look just great dressed down with jeans, a tee (black polo neck when it's a tad cooler) and sneakers but is the perfect jacket for an evening out - over coated or leather skinnies or a little black dress.  LOVE.

Black feather cardigan £129

Now two coats which have caught my eye.. starting with the perfect Autumnal coat - the trench.  And this one in navy is simply stunning.  And waterproof.

Navy Formal Trench Coat £169  At this price, it really makes a difference with the 15% off.

And this which I think is fabulous - mainly because it's so unusual but is actually a real classic.  One for throwing on every day.

Granite Suedette Fur Coat £179 - two coats for the price of one.

Finishing with going back to knitwear.  One of my favourite purchases of last year was a blanket scarf in khaki.  I could so easily give a home to these two this year....

Grey and Cream Blanket Scarf £39

However I think the camel and grey may steal its thunder.  Lordy this is divine.  And I think it looks a shed load more expensive than £39

I could go on forever - some amazing shoes, boots and bags would be my next port of call, but I have children to put to bed and supper to make.

Managing to dodge the rain today (even made all the children and their playdates go on a 45 min walk after school in the park with the dog *smug mum face*) but the boots are out.  For good I think.....

Black and white breton top - H&M
Khaki chinos - Tommy Hilfiger
Black waterfall jacket - Asos
Tan Delphine boots - Seven Boot Lane
Black Mario fringe bag - Jerome Dreyfuss

And a tiny treat for you now - a Home Sense bargain which didn't go down too well with Ginny.  I fear that the goggles may have been a touch too much and she stamped her tiny paw and said no.   The look of a very unimpressed dog.....

Untitled

However it has opened a whole new world of fashion for me.  Dog. Clothing.  Beats trying to find the impossible to locate black or grey boyfriend jeans......

  1. Go look at gap knit girlfriend jeans, mine arrived today, I love them, they may be what you want, called true black but more washed out grey black, soft, divine and great cut for ankle boots or trainers

  4. Oh Kat, sorry to hear about your tough day. When it's stressful with the kids, sometimes I don't even wait to get home to zone out, I just start browsing my fav online stores from my iPhone directly after dropping them off! I don't care if it's not healthy, it keeps my sanity and it's cheaper than therapy! (The wine has to wait for home though...)

Thanks for the MV code and hope your day/week gets better!

  5. You have my sympathies with your day, my youngest has special needs and it can be really tough. Enjoy your wine, you deserve it. I take great joy in fashion and clothes, it is a lovely antedote to all the serious stuff I have to organise (not that clothes are not serious...).

Your Mint Velvet selections are great, the first whole outfit and the second with the flares are rather lovely - I might change my mind about flares for autumn/winter after that picture too. One of my favourite pairs of jeans are from Mint Velvet, they are grey and not quite skinny. I have a lovely pair of gap real straight (now quite washed out) black jeans that I have had for years, not sure that the cut is still the same now.

Cute dog, even if she is not amused!

  8. Hi Kat

I love reading your blog, and am such a fan of your style, and your great sense of humour. I live in South Africa, so our climate calls for very different clothes, and our seasons are opposite to yours, but I am constantly trying to steal your style! I completely feel your pain with regards to the meltdowns - my son (also 8) has Sensory Processing Disorder, and the meltdowns are utterly volcanic. By the end of those days, I think I am more exhausted than he is, just from the effort of trying to help him through it. As you say, sometimes wine really is the only way to survive it all. Hope that your week improves, and that he has a better day today. xxx

  10. Thanks for the blog Kat, loving the mint velvet pieces. I'm an OT so I work with those who have special learning needs and autism daily, I also do sensory assessments and sensory interventions and I understand how stressful it can be for the person and their caregivers when they have gone into shutdown. Keep up the great work you're a great writer and mum. :)

    1. It's hard for people on the outside to understand I think - it's the constant I think that gets to most of us! But hey, lots of other people definitely have it worse so I really can't complain. And there's always shopping to take your mind off it! x

  11. I love the look on other people but I"m not really sure I'm going to down that route.. there are lots around though so I will have a pick of the best shortly. Natalie, I love the Stelle McCartney tiger one but yes, it's a similar price to that!
