Pop Up Heaven

An extra from me today as actually in the midst of researching the hell that is the non skinny jean.... I shall be back with this........but I took a break and headed to London to the new pop up hush shop.

And I come bearing gifts in the form of a discount code - 10% off plus free delivery with the code SEPT15.  Including free returns if the goodies aren't for you.

To be honest - there in lies the beauty of a pop up shop.  Trying on things that you normally have to guess at, is pure bliss.  No more ordering two sizes "just in case" (even though with free returns, I guess it's as pain free as possible) and trying things on that you didn't think would work and discovering to your joy that they do.  Alas I didn't try on anything that I thought - nah.  This, according to The Husband, would be seen as a huge downside to the pop up shop...

But anyway - hush have ensconced themselves on the Fulham Road (number 273 - a 15 min jaunt from South Ken tube) and will be there till the 27th September.  Open 7 days a week.  And they are planning (if this is successful and judging by the traffic in the shop today, it definitely will be) to look at other venues, potentially outside London for later in the year.   (yell if you think your town would be perfect....I'm already waving the flag for Tunbridge Wells....)

So what did I try on and what am I planning on ordering?

First up - well, I had to try the cashmere.  Only dilemma now is which colour(s?) to order....

This is an XL.  I wanted it oversized (as I am a giant) to wear comfortably over my leather leggings.  I am wearing it with a shirt here (which I love) but it is long enough to wear without as well.  The arms really are super long in the XL - I have them rolled up to show the cuff.

And the Adele Jumper in dark grey charcoal marl £70  Again I tried this on in the XL as I wanted it supersized.  You can see from the arms that it's fitted (excuse the stupid pose - this is so you can see...) so isn't overwhelmingly sack like even in a larger size - it's just longer.  More than long enough to cover one's decency (ie crotch.  At 42, I do not need to be crotch flashing in my leather leggings)  Dare I say I prefer this to the more expensive cashmere one.....??

I was then persuaded to try the jumpsuit on.  Darn it.  Another thing for the list.  When I did a jumpsuit blog recently, a number of people who are tall said they had camel toe issues with these.  Well, here is the jumpsuit for you.  I tried it on in a 10 and it was perfect.  If you are extra extra tall (I'm 5ft10) then I'd just size up one size.  With a drawstring waist, this is completely perfect for all shapes and sizes.  I absolutely love it.  Word to the wise - they are bringing a wine version of this out towards Christmas (I didn't tell you that).  For me though, the black is perfect - a winter version of the Summer jumpsuit I lived in.  I can't tell you how soft and flowy the fabric is as well.  It's going to be like wearing my jamas out.  What on earth is not to love?

Jumpsuit £75

I was also persuaded to move into dress territory with the Harper Knit Dress in navy.

Now I am trying it on here in a M which is massive.  Definitely size down in this (love a bit of vanity sizing)  Do NOT be scared of this when it arrives.  It looks like a tubular maxi dress.  On - it's a completely different story.  Ruche up as much as you want - midi, just above the knee or go for mini.  A very versatile dress which I was surprised at how great it looked on.

And lastly - I had promised a friend that I would try the leather mini skirt for her.  She's the same height as me (but much much younger...) and she was worried the skirt would be too short.  Well M - fear not.  The skirt is the perfect length for tallies and I have to have it!  Sorry!!

Tip is to size up in this (their tip not mine although I would and always do say the same) so that it does sit on the hips otherwise it is very very short.  Absolutely gorgeous leather.  This could so easily be dressed down during the day with ballet flats, sneakers, brogues or loafers and then throw on some ankle boots for a night out.  I can guarantee you will live in this.  So so so flattering (much more so than I had envisaged)  Admittedly I would wear it with tights... although to be fair, I'd wear with nude tights as well as opaques.

You can see how much lower randomly it sits on me.   And it's not actually super low or loose on my hips at all.  This is a 12.

Leather Wrap Skirt £160

And of course, not forgetting the leather leggings.  Oh. My. Lord, these are amazing.  (no I haven't washed them yet....)  I have these in a 10 and they are perfect.  Totally true to size and they didn't over stretch during the day at all.

White layering shirt - Me+Em
Black blazer - hush
Superstar sneakers - Golden Goose
Black Mario bag - Jerome Dreyfuss

So all in all a rather fabulous day and managed to scoot back for the school run and pick my poor baby puppy up from the vets after she'd been spayed and had some milk teeth out that hadn't fallen out on their own.

Off to give her lots of cuddles and up in the morning to make banana muffins for the - to be 11 - yr old's birthday.  I cannot believe I will have an 11 yr old *necks gin*.  Actually The Husband has just walked in and we're going to open a bottle of champagne to celebrate! (and then I have to wrap all her presents.....)

Happy Thursday everyone (and happy shopping.... if hush isn't your thing by the way - M&S have got yet another 20% off everything with the code SEP15EM

  1. Love Hush... Although I am a relatively new customer, didn't discover them until early this year through your blog which I used to read via your Twitter feed. Now I'm a fully signed up recipient and an avid IG follower. Happy almost birthday to the 10/11 year old..

    1. Oh how fab! And thank you - she's had a lovely day and we're off to London tomorrow!

  2. Did you by any chance see the cashmere boucle jumper and Winona trousers. I love the look of this outfit. Living in Dublin with our paltry euro makes Hush hideously expensive. That jumper is £250 so in euros I shudder to think. Like you I am so ready for a skinny jeans alternative and am drawn to that outfit which is still cool but looks incredibly cosy. Any feedback would be appreciated because postage and returns really bump up the price for us Paddies! Love the blog

    1. Aha, now I did see the boucle jumper and it's gorgeous. Boxy and I'd size up if you want it on the longer side as the smaller sizes are short. But I didn't see the trousers, I'm so so sorry.....

    2. Thank you for that. I fear if I size up it may look too wide. Why oh why can't we have free p&p and returns. But many thanks for the reply

  3. What shoes are acceptable with the jumpsuit if you don't want to wear a heeled court like the pic?? Am thinking a bellowed trouser fitted into an ankle boot would look wrong, need inspiration on this.

    1. Aha, now good point. They're not actually too billowing but yes, they are a gathered hem. So I would say either an ankle boot that low vamp, sneakers, skater shoes or I love the idea of a brogue..... For heels you could always wear a strappy glad sandal.... (although it's not exactly Wintery...) I'll give it further thought. x

  4. Oh yes - bring on the wine jumpsuit. Christmas day sorted....think of how much turkey and stuffing you could cram without the need to open waistbands.

    1. How gorgeous would a wine one be? Funnily enough I have my eye on the black one for Christmas day!

  5. I have the Adele jumper and have lived in it for 3 weeks, love it. Wish they did it in a red. Might try the Harper dress but I'm only short so a bit worried about the batwing sleeves.

    1. It's gorgeous, isn't it? The Medium in the Harper dress was HUGE and I'm 5ft10. So definitely definitely size down and it wouldn't be remotely as bat wingy....

  6. Hi Kat, I would like to get the jumpsuit but would need to wear it with shoes or boots no more than 2.5". I have cuffed trousers similar to the leg of this jumpsuit, as I was rushing for work recently I popped a pair of 3" boots on with it, I caught a glimpse of the look in the ladies toilers and it wasn't good. Please could you give ideas on how to wear low heeled shoes/boots with the jumpsuit , so it can be worn in everyday situations.

    1. Right - as above... I think they'd look really amazing with a brogue actually for work. Or how about an ankle boot with a low vamp at the front (the Boden ones would be amazing with it.....) For dress down - sneakers or skater shoes would be perfect x

  7. Wow I'm ahead on this one! Got the Hush code last week when receiving something else from Hush and decided to go for the cashmere sweater. Actually 2! I ended up ordering the charcoal boyfriend one (but in Medium - hope it won't be too small!) and the black cashmere V-neck in M/L. I'm usually a UK12 so really hoping medium will be ok. I would LOVE the brown sugar b/f jumper (and it looks amazing on you) but I think I would get way more wear out of charcoal.

    1. I'm sure they will be amazing - I'm 5ft10 and so everything looks much smaller on me. Yes, the charcoal is amazing - maybe I should get both....!

  8. Absolutely love your outfit today. Those leggings are amazing! I have the m & s leather ponte leggIngs from last year but they are nothing compared with these! I can't get enough of oversized shirts this season. Is this jacket you have on the Hush summer blazer? I'm wondering whether to get this one for over shirts etc. Their jumpers also look great on you......actually everything you tried on does!! Xxx

    1. Thank you! The jacket is the black tux from last season which is amazing but to be honest, it's pretty much identical to the one from this year too. Amazing jacket for the money (and thank you xx)

  9. Love the Harper Knit Dress & looks great on you - in fact I think practically the holy grail of knit dresses, EXCEPT why oh why navy only (navy opaques take me back to my school days and I think just always make legs look a bit odd/cold/blue) and of course 'hand wash'. If I could solve the navy opaque problem then I may be tempted & I just can't go down the American Tan tight route (yep - first world problems I know!). Good job the pop up shop is on the other side of the country though - not sure I could resist temptation!

    1. It really is gorgeous in the navy. One of my best friends only ever wears navy and she wears with black tights and it looks super cool. Would look fab with nude tights too...!

  10. Did you buy the Jumpsuit? I really want it but have read lots of reviews on Hush website that say it arrives very crumpled. It makes me wonder whether the material would look really creased and scruffy after a few hours of wearing? Any thoughts? I really want it..... but not if it looks like a rag after being sat down :-)

    1. Ah, interesting. It didn't look as if it would crease but I'll be totally honest, I only stood there and tried it on. I'm sure if you order it and there's a problem, you could return it. And I completely agree that there is nothing more irritating than a sack of spanners creasy fabric thing. x

  11. Kat I've been following your blog for a while and I just want to say a big thank you. Was looking at my potential 'Autumn' wardrobe the other day and, thanks to you, there are some key pieces I purchased last year that you featured on your blog. #1: the curzon coatigan in navy from Boden #2: 2beautiful Baukjen dresses oh and a black jumpsuit (I'd never HEARD of Baukjen until your blog!) #3: 3 me+Em tops in navy, plum and a layering shirt (again, never heard of me+Em before doesmybum-cue gasps) The list goes on but basically, quality staples that I'm actually looking forward to wearing again that make me feel classy (!) rather than loathing all my one-wear wonders I was in the habit of buying. So, basically, here's to you for helping me look at my wardrobe in a different way-your blog is pretty darn awesome. Cheers!

  14. Kat you're hilarious drinking champagne to celebrate it being the day before your child's birthday, how fabulously decadent!

Like the look of that skinny sleeve jumper x

  15. Hi Kate Another big thank you to you! I was at the pop up yesterday and you are absolutely right 9yet again) about the jump suit it is awesome and ordered.. It shop arrive tomorrow along with one or two other bits (well my birthday present to me!). Had great time trying on lots of different stuff with varying degrees of sense but providing my friend with much amusement ;-) Loved the lined trench but would prefer a longer one so debating that one - might have to order whilst the codes work so have a few extra weeks to look for alternatives....
