And we have more coats!

So for someone who doesn't really like coats, I've managed to come up with a fair few options I'd like to wear.

Let's crack straight on as I have wine to drink and The X Factor USA to catch up on.  (the high brow level of my television viewing knows no bounds.  Car crash TV at it's best.)

Firstly I do have a penchant for leather as I may have mentioned (despite not actually having bought anything real leather this season.  Ditto studs.  But I am still drawn to them magpie stylee)

And as I've been very restrained in my outward adoration of them recently, I don't feel too bad in presenting an homage to Zara.  Drool, drool and drool some more.  My only issue is which one do I love the most and which one would I choose.

One thing I would say, in my experience (and I haven't tried on many of the ones below as they're new stock) Zara coats come up offensively small.  I'm a size 10, although I do wear often a size 12 on top to get the length, but in Zara coats I am normally a large if not an extra large.  Which strikes me as being completely ridiculous but there you go.

Starting with the combined leather jacket.   I utterly love this.  A complete bargain at £119.  Easy to dress up and dress down.  A winner in my book.  I can't wait to see this in real life (it's only just come into stock and is actually already sold out online)  Personally I wouldn't be teaming it with leather or pleather skinnies as they've done here - I'd prefer to tone it down a bit.

Next another nod to leather with this beautiful wine coloured coat with zip detail.  Deliciously on trend with the colour, the long biker style and leather addition.  Completely stunning.  Perfect for all occasions.  Work, casual, day, night.  If you are a coat person, I'd be checking this out.

This time faux leather sleeves but yum yum yum.  Under £90 for a wool mix coat that looks like it could easily cost twice or three times that amount.

This however is top of my list and I have been stalking the site like a mad sad thing as they keep promising it's coming back in stock.  I adore this - in my mind I can justify my self proclaimed hater of coats title, as it's a long jacket.  Yeah right.  But bothered, as it's just one of the most stunning coats I've seen this season.  Coat with quilted leather sleeves.

Leaving my leather fetish aside for one minute and moving onto a winter version of a trench.  I'm proper trenched out this year.  I tried to hunt down the one I that I had become mildly obsessed from M&S only to discover when I did eventually find it that it wasn't quite as fabulous as I'd remembered it.  Disappointing much?  Yes.  So in a strop worthy of my 4 year old I decided to banish any thought of a trench from my A/W wardrobe this year and soldier on with an umbrella instead.

However there are definitely a few that are a nod to the trench style that have caught my eye.    These work perfectly for all occasions again.  My favourite look is dressing them down with a pair of battered jeans, breton top and some supergas or converse. (or Ash in my case obviously)

Continuing with my homage to Zara.  This one is a complete classic.  (LOVING the boots she's got on as well - haven't seen those online....I am still mildly obsessed with the All Saints full on stud cowboy ones that are probably the most marmite item I've ever posted.)  Quilted trench coat.

Now please just believe me when I say that the next one is a billion, nay a trillion times better in real life than it looks in these photographs.  Marks & Spencer - dear mother of god, please please PLEASE sort out your online images.  I am beyond mortified for you, I really am.  There is no polite way to put it, they are a complete embarrassment.  And they worst thing is, they've been like this for years.  It surely can't cost any more to employ a vaguely competent stylist or photographer?

Anyway, I digress.  Ignore the photos.  This is honestly a lovely coat.

This clearly isn't a photo from Marks ie it looks like a lovely coat you might want to purchase here.

In a similar vein, this is a longer version of a trench in grey and camel from Next.   If you're looking for a longer coat then this would be my personal fave.  Admittedly not in the most practical of colours but it's not a particularly practical coat bar keeping the cold off. This is not a trench of the waterproof variety.  Also comes in regular, tall & petite which makes it an obvious choice in my Gulliver book.

I think I'm going to save my worshipping at the altar of all things animal till another day as I have Nigella's Italian Chicken in the oven and it's nearly ready.  Beyond glamorous.  We were due to have a dinner party this evening but The Husband had a work dinner put in the diary instead and so we've postponed.  The two small boy RRs are watching a movie with popcorn, RR1 is at a sleepover and I'm experimenting with chicken, peppers & leeks.  Which smell burnt.  Great.  Garlic bread and wine it is for dinner yet again.  (there are worst ways to spend a Friday evening, I will admit)

A round up of what I wore yesterday and today before I head off to inspect the charred offerings my oven has seemingly churned out.

  1. The Zara coat with quilted leather sleeves was recalled to the Zara warehouse, and apparently they will definitely not be stocking it again, apparently it was too close to a designer one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, that is why it is on e bay at ridiculous prices!!

    2. I love e bay, I keep meaning to sell loads of my stuff on there, but I haven't quite got around to it yet, it's great when you get more for something than you expected, and it can fund more things for my wardrobe. Double bonus!!

    4. Bizarre, I've just seen the black quilted leather sleeved coat in store as well, it didn't look as good in the flesh though, neither did the wine coloured one, I had to do a double take as the colour appears slightly different in real life and not as nice as it does on the website, but I did find and buy the grey coat with half leather sleeves, gorgeous and a bargain in my opinion.

    5. Right there are loads in store and randomly they come up smaller than the rest of Zara this season. Go figure.... Lovely quality irl but being the Gulliver I am, it's just a tad too short for me. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

And yes, DIane - the grey coat with pleather sleeves is just gorgeous and what a fabulous bargain. x

  4. Nooooooooooo! I am on the online 'back in stock list' for that coat. No wonder I haven't heard anything :(
Can we have a scarf tying lesson to cheer us up. My scarves just don't look chic and I'm in serious danger of doing myself an injury (cose of the scarf tying not because the coat has been recalled).

  5. oh my that zara black coat is just so lovely, such a shame as would have ordered in an instant. Also love the grey one, have seen it already but bought the grey coat with leather piping and zips last winter and trying to convince myself they're not too similar! I guess there's always ebay for last years one......

    1. No that coat from last year was divine. And on the upside, you probably won't see as many people with it!

Having said that, is there not room for a grey and a black coat in your wardrobe...?!!

  6. That looks like Carol Vorderman in the M&S photo - lol. Have seen the burgundy one in RL and it's indeed stunning. However burgundy reminds me of the evil nuns so I'm reluctant to invest in anything more than skinny jeans for fear of undoing all the time in therapy ;)
Have a great weekend Kat, Avril x

    1. Bloody awful photo isn't it. Burgundy is the colour of my kids (RC) school! No nuns though....... Actually I've taken the burgundy skinny jeans back deciding to focus on the top part instead. Nothing too expensive either...!

  7. Zara quilted leather coat is showing as back in stock on Zara website... for me anyhow...? Size small only - could you shoehorn yourself into a 'small' Kat? (If not, there's no hope for anyone! I agree their coat sizes are very small however...)

    1. ACtually the medium was more than adequate randomly - this coat seems to be slightly bigger, go figure! But it's too short so all irrelevant. Doh!

    1. Dear god that sounds complicated. Right I'm having my blog looked at next week by someone of a technical nature to add some whistles & Bells.... (ie drag my arse kicking and screaming into the 21st century) No doubt I'll be emailing you asking what to include ! But a bloglovin widget will be there, I promise! Thank you darling xxxx

  9. I tried to do a post with an M&S coat being featured on it but the picture quality was so bad, I just couldn't use it. It's probably to do with their zoom feature but all the same, it would be nice if they had some good quality static pictures which you could download. That's beside the point anyway but the coats from Zara are all rocking. I've just ordered myself a biker style jacket version of the burgundy coat you featured. I have too many coats and not enough jackets - the opposite dilemma to yourself. I hate the cold.

  11. Ooh I've been looking for a new coat for this Autumn, that first black one is incredible!! I love the stone coloured trench coat as well... I find Zara are amazing for coats, I almost bought this gorgeous white one a few years back but didn't and have regretted it ever since...

I wonder if you'd like to have a look at my little website, I've only just started it so it's still very small! It's basically a little directory of all my favourite classy shops and what I love about them. If you'd have a look and maybe help me to spread the word that would be amazing!! You can find it at http://cherryblossomhandbook.blogspot.co.uk. Thank you so much!
