On a roll

Ok I'm in the zone now.

After my little foray yesterday into the dress market, I am now on a mission.  Totally on a dress roll.  I have shoes, I have bags, I have all sorts of jewellery so I just need a dress.  How hard can that be?

Buoyed up by the success of yesterday's gems that I found - I am building a pretty good try on list.  However I am fully aware that as seemingly easy as it should be for me to find a dress that fits, in a nutshell, it's not.  Length is always an issue, as are dimensions, not to mention my lack of waist meaning that I have to be rather careful of the Spongebob effect.

On the last dress thread, someone mentioned that the starter of My Wardrobe has opened another online site, Very Exclusive.  Clearly it is, as I've not heard of it.  I've not seen any marketing or promotion on it which is quite bizarre as I spend a great deal of my time reading fashion related stuff.  I've discovered it's actually part of the Very Group.  Clearly the clue is in the title.  Duh - missed that one.

Starting with this perfect blank canvas in navy from Tommy Hilfiger.

Neige Flared Silhouette Dress in Navy £125

Similar version with detail in the fabric from Reiss (yes they do have Reiss and yes you can buy it elsewhere, but they do have the 3 month no interest payment plan which makes it rather interesting....)

Reiss Aisha Cubed Lace Dress £180

Now this does look short on the model but I'm imagining she's rather taller than most of us...(5ft 10 with legs up to her armpits)  Again, a dress to add whatever you want to.  Colour or print shoes and bag (I'd be eyeing up my leopard print accessories...)

Finders Keepers Sail Away Dress in black £140

Monochrome now.  I would have worn this to work with a blazer over it - it would have been my Thursday/Friday outfit.  Whip off jacket (not in any brazen stylee can I please just point out...) and all set for a night out.  Those were the days....

Cameo Tails Dress in grey multi £160

Full on colour now from Pinko.

Serigrafia Pleated Dress £180

Perfect timing also from ASOS with a 20% off selected dresses until Monday 8am.  There are loads to choose from - this is the cream of the crop for me.  Starting with the most expensive as that obviously means the biggest discount but you don't have to spend a fortune.

Vanessa Bruno Athe Cassandre Dress with layered pleat skirt was £200 now £160

Ganni Dress with drop waist in floral print was £115 now £92

Another drop waist by Ganni and this has to be one of my favourites.  Super feminine and floaty but with a slightly masculine shirt collar that stops it being too frothy (for a 42 year old anyway...)

Ganni Drop Waist in bold flower print was £100 now £80

This bodycon dress reminds me very much of a McQueen style and print at a fraction of the cost.  Lovely colours, but could easily still wear this in the A/W with silver or black shoes.

ASOS Premium Digital Print Pencil Dress was £65 now £52

Shorter v neck now and in a silky fabric.  This is a lovely little dress to have in your wardrobe.

Sisley Dress in block print was £50 now £40

More grown up now (and I'll be back tomorrow with more on this shape... with pics.... and a random theory.....) as far as I'm concerned, but I simply love the colours and print of this dress.

ASOS Crepe Wiggle Dress in spot and floral print was £48 now £38

This is a truly great dress if you have a curvier figure but at the same time, has the knack of giving those less blessed, a great shape.

Love Wrap Front Midi Dress with tulip hem was £44 now £35

Again, great if you've got curves - the ASOS Scuba Pleat Colourblock Midi Dress was £42 now £33.50

Just add jewellery for this one to glam it up.  Alternatively, I'd put snakeskin accessories with it.  In my beloved khaki.

ASOS Pencil Dress with blouson and low v was £38 now £30

So the list is well and truly coming together - I just need to work out how many I *actually* need.  Seeing as it's still freezing - if it doesn't warm up, the simple answer is going to be None.  In all seriousness though, I'm thinking one for sure and if I can get a bargain on two then..... Dear Matches - where is my discount voucher for this season pretty pretty please?  Or Dear Very Exclusive - please will you do some cracking offer days like My Wardrobe used to have?  (ignoring the fact it may well have contributed to their demise.....!  And highly unlikely seeing as they're part of a bigger group.  Boo, schmoo.)

Finishing with outfit from yesterday.

Untitled

Navy polo neck - Zara

Knitted cardigan - Zara
Turn up jeans - Zara
Cracked leather Stan Smiths - adidas
Stone Maxi Zip satchel - Anya Hindmarch

Today, I had a great trying on session as I snuck to Bluewater super quickly to pick up a jacket.  The jacket that everyone is talking about from Zara.  I will report back but to be honest, the jury is out.  On me, I fear it's slightly less Emmanuelle Alt and a tad more Little Britain does Cheryl Cole in that video....."we gotta fight fight fight fight fight for this love..."

Right, I have another dinner party this evening so I'd best be off to put out the olives and get the champagne out of the freezer (hands up who's put one in at midnight convinced they need just one more, only to find it smashed to smithereens in the morning?  Please say it's not just me.......)

  1. I'd be a bit wary of Very Exclusive, if their customer service is anything like Very's... had a very disappointing experience with them, and they seemed shocked when I said I'd had enough and wanted to close my account! Took several emails for someone to finally delete me.

I have no waist either so I find the dresses from Closet London and Whistle &Wolf really good for my plank figure.

    1. Oh you look FAB in them but they're just too girly for me. Well, I think that. However I've tried on some grown up dresses and have a theory which I'm thinking about in the next couple of days. x

  11. These are rather grown up for me, but I have a theory on that coming up this week. The jacket's ok, isn't it? Just have to wear it undone. Boden tops are definitely normally suited to shorter bodied people in my experience but that does make them work really well over high waisted trousers and skirts. This yellow Breton from Zara Kids was simply the best buy of the year so far. £8 in the sale!
