Apologies for the change in weather....

....as if I continue to write about proper summery things, the weather will get pants.

So yesterday I did sandals and today I'm giving us all the opportunity to get our legs out.  Although, to be fair, I think these are the perfect British Summer time dress.  As in it rarely gets above 22 degrees (one year I'll do a tally of how many days... ooh maybe this year.  Have we had one or two days so far?  And for one of them I was in Ireland so I'm up to one day... and we're in June....)

These for me are ideal.  Perfect with a blazer or other light summer jacket (not sure I'd stretch to denim jacket and denim dress but maybe....) when it's not scorchio.

And most of these aren't short short.  Ok on me at 5ft10, yes most of them expose far too much leg which means lots of meticulously applied fake tan and that only happens once a week.  So if it's super warm from Wednesday through to Friday, it doesn't happen for me.  Don't ask.  I can only fake tan once a week.  It just goes wrong if I don't give it a chance to totally wear off and then start again.  Until I get a bit of natural colour on my legs.  Every.  Year.  I have tried every fake tan under the sun (my favourite is definitely CocoaBrown one hour tan (now with a third off at Superdrug) and the once a week rule has to be applied (otherwise I get a build up round my ankles and in other random places as it wears off more quickly elsewhere, yawn yawn - the curse of being white)

So for those days, a dress I can throw on that isn't too warm and isn't too thin and "summery" is needed and the Denim Dress is an ideal option.

I've never found the perfect option so I've been making a list to check out and here are my favourites of the ones I've come across.  Love the idea of wearing these with ankle boots - actually they'd also look great with a cardigan over, be it a thin or chunky knit one.  They also work perfectly with all sorts of sandals and look great 70s stylee with espadrilles or wedges.  Ditto with a blazer and ballet flats for a preppier day look.

Oasis Denim Shirt Dress £45

Now I have to say I rather like the waisted ones but personally I need a forced waist as opposed to a self tie, if that makes sense?  This one from Tom Tailor looks ideal with a drawstring.

Tom Tailer Denim Dress £55

Or this one from Esprit and actually, this model is 5ft9 (yes I am having to google the translation from inches to old school feet even though I know I could just divide by 12 - seriously, does anyone above the age of 10 have any idea even roughly what the height of someone is in inches or cm from just looking at the number?  Please tell me I'm the only one who can only think in feet?)

Esprit Denim Dress £45

More classic styles now and this one I love - I did order it but sent it back as alas it was too short for me.  I would say size up also as I found it quite snug.  Perfect if you are slightly shorter.

Classic Denim Shirt Dress from hush £65  Can confirm that this is fabulous soft denim that is thick enough not to look like a shirt shirt but drapey and fluid enough to look like a dress and not an oversized denim jacket.  Just need to add a couple of inches on the bottom for me.  (maybe I'll order it again in a bigger size actually which would probably hang longer... hmmmm)

Moving onto the tunic styles.

Monki Raw Hem Dress £38

Slightly paler from Warehouse at £38 (but still too short for me...)

I have to say out of all the tunic dresses, this one would be my choice.  Loving the price too.

South Denim Tunic Dress with pockets £29

Also quite like this classic one though from s.Oliver.  Reference - the model here is also 5ft9.  Actually this is my favourite tunic one although I do prefer the price of the South one.

s.Oliver Denim Dress £60

Now some that are slightly left field but still made from denim so are perfectly justified under the heading of denim dresses.

And another one that I've had on the blog before I seem to recall (or else I just loved it from my hours of research) but a lovely reader pointed this one out.  Absolutely adore it but it does look on the short side.....

ASOS WHITE Denim Printed Panelled Dress was £55 now £33  Really love this.  REALLY love this and it would even work for out in the evening, I'd say.   Am tempted to order to see how short short is.

Another multi coloured version, this time from Paramita and whilst this does look longer, the model is only (in my world this is "only") 5ft7.

Paramita Arno Denim Dress was £55 now £41.65

A white version from Warehouse £38

MOTO Denim Smock Dress from Topshop £45  This with either little ankle boots or gladiator sandals - ideal.

Now I appreciate that everyone isn't tall (which is why hopefully it is useful if I do put the height of models on as that's just as relevant for those don't have to duck in beamed houses) but just a couple for those who might be.

Vero Moda Tall Denim Shirt Dress £45

Another that looks slightly longer is this from Noisy May at Zalando £42

And finally, finishing with probably my favourite from the lot.  I absolutely adore this - midi dress.  Incredibly unusual and I would have said more Matches prices than the £45 price tag.
Weekday Denim Shirt Dress £45

Lastly my outfit from yesterday - yes the legs were out again although it was slightly nippier so threw on knitwear.  I've never been super comfortable with this cardigan which is immensely irritating as I absolutely adore it but just can't quite work out how to wear it.

However have to say, over the Baukjen Paola knit dress from last year with ankle boots - it may finally have found a home.  Not too warm and not too cold.

So we are on countdown till the big weekend party.  Have sort of decided to bake the cake as well as doing all the catering which seems like a great idea right now (actually it doesn't really, I'm fully aware this is more than foolish and I will verge on nervous breakdown status come Friday.......)  Especially as my garden is in the middle of being rebuilt (they've assured me it will be done by Saturday.  Oh how we laughed) and our big sitting room is currently also a building site.....It will be alright on the night I'm sure *drinks wine*  (and yes I know it's a Tuesday but I've got to get through till Saturday)

  3. It was freezing yesterday, wasn't it? I was at a football tournament in the morning and had STUPIDLY listened to teh weather forecast and only put on a cardigan as I'd been a bit chilly on the school run. I was absolutely out of mind with coldness and had to leave!

  4. It pays to stalk the hush website, that khaki jacket came back in my size this morning so have quickly nabbed it while feeding Baby his cereal with one hand, hazzah!! My God, imagine if I don't like it now after weeks of lust...aargh!!
Love the last dress, think that's a funny length on me though? And yes, yesterday was so weird, hot then bloody freezing...felt like an underdressed freezing idiot then zoomed straight to overdressed freezing idiot the next minute, insane. Apparently today is going to be lovely here...I don't believe it, will prob boil on the nursery run now!

  5. Loving the Topshop denim dress, they are definitely one of the most useful things to have through the summer. Gorge selection as always Kat. Best of luck at the weekend, ours are over now (going forth mass last weekend..who knew it was such a process?!!) hope the catering and cake (brave you I bought a plain iced one from Waitrose and stuck Elsa from Frozen on the top - I forgot to buy anything Holy and she was the nearest figure to anything in white - admittedly it was crap but got a few laughs!) Cant wait to see the Self Portrait dress on..it.is.amazing! xxxxxx

    1. Yes, there won't be a lot holy going on on top of the cake on Saturday.. strawberries??! What did you wear in the end? Our Going Forth Mass is in two weeks (the day after the Summer Fayre - a WHOLE WEEKEND of school stuff - pure joy!) so yes, having started in January, the process is a rather long and drawn out one. And I get to do it all again next year! Mind you - the work that the Catechists put in - fair play to them. All I did was help out at the creche for the catechists children!
