Your man is not impressed

The Husband that is.

I have found inspiration for shopping where none should really be found.  On the beach.

Grey.  How do I not have more grey in my wardrobe?

I now, of course (taking a mini hiatus from holiday essentials) am over the moon and am giddily rearranging my A/W clothes - in my head.... seeing as I am surrounded by brightly coloured tops at the moment - oh the irony.  I wanted good weather but I've managed to talk myself out of light and airy summer clothes.  Well, I'm getting with the programme and sporting my reliable chirpy coloured (yes I loathe that word but at the moment, I'm loving the heat but regretting my wardrobe of jolly colours.....)

So it's all about planning for next season.  But you know me.... oh yes, we can still wear these gems now.  How have I not FAWNED all over this colour before?  It's the perfect lack of colour colour that is the ultimate neutral (admittedly up there with all my other "ultimate" neutrals.  Ultimate is plural in my book) that goes with everything.  It really really does.  I now cannot believe I have not been collecting it en masse for years - it suddenly oozes class to me (I've had two glasses of prosecco with a late pub lunch - you have been warned) and is the perfect tone to bring all my old navy, black and khaki, bang up to date this season.  And tan.  Tan and grey.  Just sublime.

Therefore again I have gone a bargain hunting and have found knitwear a plenty in the sale still.  I KNEW the scabby ends of the sales would have their uses.  A grey piece of knitwear is a grey piece of knitwear - whether we're talking last or next season.

And in the sales it means you can get a much better quality jumper for the same price as you'd pay for cheaper new season version.

Love the sleeve detail of this from FWSS.

FWSS long sleeve jumper was £130 now £46

3/4 length sleeves at French classic APC and this would be amazing now (yes I could SO wear this on holiday....) or layered for the coming cooler months.  Perfect with shorts, jeans or even smart trousers for work.  Dare I mention culottes? (still haven't mastered them... yawn....to be fair, I haven't tried again...)

APC Short Sleeve Sweater was £100 now £30

A more masculine take on a theme at a great reduction.
Cedric Charlier wool sweater was £340 now £102 from Matches

And taking inspiration from everywhere - here's an idea to cut out and keep.   Changing the look of a crew neck jumper with a thin layering polo underneath.  Genius.  A great clean looking alternative to layering with a shirt.  This one is definitely going on the "keep" pile.  (you can keep your silver skirt.  I'm not going to lie - tin foil chic isn't doing it for me this year.  There are some designer pieces that I think are purely made for Hoxton.  Anyone who's has a drink out in Hoxton Square any time in the past 20 years will know exactly what I mean.)

Oversized and half price at LK Bennett.  A mix of dove grey and charcoal here.  Stunning.  This is one for wearing on Christmas morning opening the stockings (I'm assuming you're all more organised than me and don't end up just slobbing out in your jamas, trying to wipe the night before's makeup from your face so you don't look like a zombie in the photos?)

LK Bennet Naomi jumper was £165 now £95

A classic every day throw on for a bargain £19 at Kin by John Lewis.  Size up as this one does come up quite small.

Kin by John Lewis Melange Jumper was now £19

Now some new season bits which I couldn't help but have a quick look at and this one from Zalando (interesting site but oh my heavens you could lose hours of your life on there.  Makes ASOS looks like a small corner shop).

Lots of makes I have heard of but some I haven't (I'm assuming they're mostly European brands we don't really have here?) including Jeff.  Yes, a brand called Jeff.  Feel free to enlighten me to it being the trendiest Danish/Swedish/Dutch brand going?! (AHA! I couldn't resist and had to google and it's a Belgian brand...)

Regardless, I LOVE this whole look.  Ok so the shoes are too clumpy for me but the grey with the khaki and the black...In. Love. And the neckline of this jumper.  Absolutely adore.

Karla Jumper by Jeff at Zalando £115  Clearly to recreate this look, I would have to invest in slightly more make up than she's sporting.  She may appear youthful and gamine with this less is more look - I, on the other hand, would look dug up.  I need to trowel it on.

Staying with Zalando and a boxier shape which I know some people love.  These are especially good if you like the idea of a poncho or a cape otherwise they are notoriously difficult to throw a jacket over the top.

Tjelva jumper by someday at Zalando £60

A textured version from Only again at Zalando - this one is mostly polyacrylic which I haven't come across before... Going to stick my neck out and say it could be amazing and it could also be pants.  But for £26, if you like the herringbone textured pattern, it could be worth a punt. (Zalando do free deliveries and 100 day free returns.  I've only used them once for a Patrizia Pepe Dress which I only found by googling it and the one black one in the country was available from Zalando.  Plus if it's your first order - I think you can nearly always get a discount by signing up to their newsletter)

Only Onlbernadette (yes, that's what it's called....) Jumper £26

Another bargain number from ASOS but this time a v neck.

ASOS Jumper with v neck and side splits in a wool mix £25  They do also do this in their tall range as well.  And I can confirm that the proportions are fabulous in this range after the success of my pleather biker jacket from there the other day.

So I am now on a grey roll.  I am on a black roll - I need dark and murky colours.  However not quite this week - although the weather is set to change....so until then, I shall be making the most of my barely ever worn Summer stuff.

Yesterday - it was positively tropical here.  Day on the beach, late lunch at a lovely cafe round the corner and then back home for tapas and prosecco.

Tomorrow I am back with another holiday must have.  However I fear I may have to have a little lie down as too much sun, two glasses of prosecco and I am wiped out.  WHAT is happening to me?  This would have been a mere amuse bouche in days gone past.  I'm blaming three kids and a dog......

    1. That's what I think! The husband prefers the term "fools never differ". but he knows NOTHING! Spookily I have a plethora of grey tees - I Get it in the summer, it's just the winter when I've swerved it for absolutely NO reason!

  3. I love grey & have just bought a lightweight Cape/wrap/cardi type thing from Next in the sale that looks fab over black. I do need to wear a brighter lippy though when I wear lighter grey or I look like death warmed up! X

    1. Oh my lord what a find in the sale! Interestingly I always wear darker lippie in the winter. Otherwise, yes, I do have a hint of corpse about me generally!

  4. Huge yes to grey from me - totally my favourite colour and glad my go to summer look of grey skinnies with tan cross over bag and tan wedge gladiators has now been validated by the Kat! Think I love it as it tones down my wild strawberry blonde hair and stops me looking like I'm about to burst into flames! But it has to be pale grey - dark grey drains me more than black which is weird. Glad you're getting fab weather - we had to abandon a picnic this afternoon because of a thunderous deluge - unbelievable.

    1. oh I LOVE strawberry blonde hair and perfect with grey. Do you not think you could wear charcoal with pale grey together? unusual (thinking outloud) that you find it drains you more than black. BUT I am no colour expert at all. I do think we instinctively wear what suits us.

  8. Big fan of grey too, especially charcoal and light grey. I find in-between shades more tricky and depends a lot on the fabric. One of my favourite fall combo is light grey and burgundy (pref light grey sweater with burgundy/wine coloured bag or scarf.

    1. The key is to definitely put another colour with it - I'd say the same for any neutral if you're not sure if it works for you. Team it with a toning colour that you love.

We LOVE this part of the country., it is indeed gorgeous x

  10. Yup, love all shades of grey. Goes with everything and is softer than black. The grey and green above is really lovely. I'm not sure I need more grey jumpers... yes, of course I do! I recently bought a uniqlo cotton/cashmere sweatshirt style sale bargain which is fabulous quality. Grey cardis are really useful too, all year round.

  11. Love all things grey (apart from my hair which is sadly going that way!) and find it so versatile. Love that boxy Zalando jumper you've featured, have a similar one from The White Company which I wheel out every autumn so that one has my name written all over it. Love the way you research and feature companies which I wouldn't normally consider - you're a treasure!
