A new family tradition?

So I mentioned this whilst everyone was having their breakfast this morning and I won't lie - it did go down like a parp in a lift.  "How about we all wear Christmas Jumpers this year?"

Actually that's not true - the 7yr old was giddy at the thought of being able to buy the (faintly ridiculous but beautifully crafted) Rudolph one for Daddy that he's seen in M&S.   To say The Husband didn't share his joy would be a mild understatement.  He could clearly smell a rat.

And darn it, he knows me too well.  I did definitely mean Christmas Jumpers, but with a slight twist.  As in, this is an amazing opportunity (code for cunning plan) to be able to sneak in the Bella Freud 1970 jumper that I have been obsessing about.  In the red.  Which surely screams Christmas, no? (yes is the answer you're looking for, by the way).

So what are the rules to my Christmas Jumper quest?  It mustn't be plain.  It must have a hint of something vaguely festive... (red counts as being UBER festive by the way).  Actually having said it mustn't be plain, I guess I could forgive a super metallic number but today I am giving it all over to the print jumper.

But without a Rudolph in sight.  (she says... I actually haven't started researching this which is unusual for me and have just started writing.  So who knows what I'll turn up)

I'm going to ease you in gently though with something that is festive for sure but it is so easy to wear any day of the year (those days that warrant a jumper that is) and let's talk about stars.

I can testify to how gorgeous this jumper is.  I think I know 4 people who have it and it looks great on all of them.  They all wear it in different ways as well - so it has a versatility to it that perhaps a jumper with a massive snowman on the front, might not have. (just saying)

And.. an early Christmas gift, there is 15% off at Mint Velvet - COSY15.  Off everything.  I may have to do a round up....

Grey foil star knit jumper £69

Now I've actually failed at only the second jumper.  So it's not exactly Rudolph, but it is a Reindeer.. sorry, Stag (and there is a difference but we do all tell our children that the local park is full of Reindeer at Christmas and can you spot Rudolph amongst the herd?  Alas it's only the 7yr old who is still vaguely believing.  The older two now look at me with equal measures of pity, disdain and concern)

Silver Grey Stag Back Knit from Mint Velvet £79

Back to stars at hush - and monochrome.  Could I love this anymore?  Don't forget there's still 10% off at hush until November 8th with the code PUMPKIN15.

Scatter Scar Jumper from hush £85

More monochrome at ASOS and this is definitely a nod to the theme.  But a festive star is a festive start (and in fact there are two - one on each elbow!)

ASOS Jumper £22

From two stars to star overload, again in monochrome Topshop.  Eminently wearable all season and not just on that one special day.

Star Knit Jumper £36

And the codes continue at Gap.  It's not one I actually have to give you alas, but if you sign up for their email then you can get a whopping 40% off.  If you don't fancy doing that, then GETGAP will give you 25% off until November 7th.

These prices are all pre discount and all jumpers are available in petite and tall.  Bargain central. (hands up who's getting more than one?!)

Intarsia word pullover Peace £34.95 Love this shade of blue.  Ink. (I'd say).

Love £34.95

Happy £34.95

Joy £34.95

Another slogan jumper now but one that is perhaps less... December.

Slogan Wool Blend Jumper by Jovonna at Topshop £45

Now moving to slightly more outside the box.  You can tell I've already had a sniff of mulled wine as this isn't going to be for everyone.

But I'm thinking - peg leg leather trousers.... or a pleated leather midi skirt.... I like it.  That's if it's on the waist as opposed to cropped.  If it's cropped then it can jog on.

Aztec Retro Jumper from M&S - Guess what... 20% off at M&S again for two days.  Online only, discount already applied.  Was £29.50 now £23.60 (there are also polar bears, robins and proper furry Reindeer on jumpers at M&S if they float your boat...)

Another print jumper at ASOS - yes this is fairisle which I know I've covered (although they're springing up everywhere like weeds) but this one has embellishment on it which makes it extra special if you ask me.  This with coated skinnies....

ASOS jumper in pattern with embellishment £50

I cannot believe how many discount codes there are around at the moment - you've only got till tomorrow though to make the most of the 25% off at Boden - 4Q2B

This one is like wearing your very own Christmas decorations.

Relaxed Embellished V Jumper £99 - also available in silver grey.

And now we start with stretching the perceived definition of "Christmas Jumper"... Anyone canny *may* notice that these are just jumpers that I love and would wear on Christmas Day.  Which surely is as good as a redefinition of the term as any?  These with a leather skirt or leather trousers = Christmas Day perfection.

This one is silver and red which surely screams festive?  Struggling slightly more on the bus justification... details schmetails.  And it has 25% off.

London Cashmere Jumper £159 pre discount

Stretching again at Topshop but I completely LOVE this jumper.  I am after a jumper to wear with skirts and this one surely is perfect?

Eyelet Jumper from Topshop £42

And the one I really have my heart set on...for which there is obviously no discount voucher (soddus lawus).

Bella Freud 1970 jumper £280

Or.... there are of course some you can buy and polish your halo at the same time.  The Save The Children Jumpers from Matches.  This one would get my vote.

Bella Freud X Kate Moss sweater £365

So hopefully you've got the message that in my book, a jumper is for life and not just for Christmas.  I really want to get one that I can enjoy on Christmas Day and look vaguely (and I know, with some, it's "very" vaguely) festive in, but still wear it well into the Spring.

Guess which one I'm going to go for... (or at the very least put on my Christmas list.  This is a theoretical list by the way.  A list that I make in my head of things I'd love to get for Christmas and end up hopefully snagging myself in the sale.  I do not have one of those husbands who asks for a list crammed with clothes, smellies and accessories and then buys all of it.  If you do, I'm not going to say I hate you.  But I might do, just a teensy teensy teensy titchy teeny tiny atom of a bit)

Outfit from today - lovely lunch with two girlfriends and a smidge more Christmas shopping.  I am making lots of dents in it - hoorah.

Black crewneck extra fine merino jumper - Uniqlo
Indigo dress coat - H&M
Navy capri pants - Me+Em
Black Mario bag - Jerome Dreyfuss
Superstar sneakers - Golden Goose

So I've just had our Parent Consultations which I had to do solo as The Husband is at a black tie dinner in Brighton.  Ridiculously proud of all three of my small things but especially the Aspie who is trying so so hard and making such massive improvements (thanks mainly to his total Saint of a teacher who I need to canonise.  Even though she's still alive...Not forgetting the whole of the teaching staff who completely rock).  The Apprentice which I am going to watch in bed.  Just because I'm on my own and can!

  1. Oh, how I have coveted that 1970 Bella Freud jumper being, as it is, the year of my birth (oops, did I say that out loud?).
Currently torn on a Christmas day outfit between a pleated pleather midi skirt in 'spiced raisin' from J Crew (top tbc) or grey knitted tunic with a lace hem from Mint Velvet. We do a novelty christmas jumper thing, but usually on the run up to to christmas, rather than on the day itself. And like you, I have a woefully neglectful (Irish) husband who loves to be showered with amazing gifts but can't be arsed to reciprocate properly - one year I got shiny purple wellies with yellow stripes that I didn't need and were too big anyway. (And they were my only gift) Still he's not as bad as MIL,but now we're getting into therapist's territory...

    1. It's a fecking conspiracy... Actually mine's not too bad at Christmas to be fair as I think he is SHAMED into it by all the pomp and ceremony (ie the children) But my birthday is in January and, hand on heart, I can never remember actually getting a present on my birthday. Ever........

    2. Me neither! And my birthday is in May with nothing going on around it, so no excuse. I just buy my own 'presents' - and I've had some lovely ones. From me.

  2. I love all the ones with stars on, want them all. Could be dangerous sharing a code for Mint Velvet as I love all their knitwear and most of my cashmere collection (small but growing) is from MV

  9. Oh love the ASOS elbow patch one, some lovely offerings there thanks. Just ordered a collarless coat from Uniqlo v similar to the H & M one you have on - is your jumper a men's one? How are they for size? V jealous of your Xmas shopping and being so ahead of the game, with 3 teenagers mine is all about tech (yawn) and 'designer' clothes...!

  10. Great choices here, esp the eyelet number! I've come over all festive this year and have ordered the M&S robins one...but it may go straight back. Have you seen some of the John Lewis Collection Weekend offerings? Nice 'foil' number here: http://www.johnlewis.com/collection-weekend-by-john-lewis-foil-jumper-silver/p2201511 and more stars here: http://www.johnlewis.com/collection-weekend-by-john-lewis-star-jumper/p2227097?colour=Cream/Gold

    1. In my experience they never have and to be honest so much is already sold out... but they will have a sale (but they don't tend to put everything into the sale - sorry, that's not remotely helpful, is it?!)

  12. I was disappointed that the red Bella Freud 1970 is actually a very orangey red, not at all like the colour it appears to be on my screen online in most pics. It didn't suit my skin tone at all, so I was "forced" to get the black version instead! You're darker than me though, so it will probably look great on you, although I thought you didn't wear red ;)

    ReplyDelete

    1. OMG NO! In my head it's a lovely red red.... Gah. The black one is sold out at Selfridges and I'm really not sure I can justify yet another black jumper. You're absolutely right, I usually don't wear red but I've had a real hankering for it this season. In fact am literally just putting together for publishing later today, another blog on something red that kept me up till the wee small hours! I think it's because my hair is so much blonder (it seems to go lighter every time I wash it....) and I feel more comfortable in red. Clear as mud?!!

      Delete
    2. And out of interest - what size did you get? I'm 5ft10 and a size 10/12 on top (have broad shoulders and monkey length arms) so was thinking of the Large??

      Delete
    3. Well don't be put off, you might like it, but I was thinking it was a proper ketchup red, maybe darker, which is definitely isn't...

I'm a small UK10, 5'6" and got a medium for a slim-loosish fit. I can't bear too small knitwear, especially as they usually shrink slightly during washing - not prepared to risk that for this price! Both colours still available on NAP, and also direct at bellafreud.com, I ordered something in the sale direct with no problem.

      Delete
    4. Thank you so much. I might order *just in case*. I won't lie - I'm hanging out for Black Friday at Selfridges....

  13. Love the Bella 1970. Have you seen the one on ASos? It's dark blue with red letters . A " homage" . Not sure about the neckline though?
