All the coats

It's that time of the month again (seriously - WHERE are the months going?  Less than a month till Christmas...how?  HOW?!) for my edit with M&S.  This month though, it was my time on the *actual* M&S site.  Which never ever fails to make me smile.  I know I've done it a few times now, but the buzz I get from seeing me on their Style and Living pages, still tickles me pink and makes me pinch myself (actually I go red as that's what I always do - anyone who's ever met me in real life and told me they like my blog or insta pages will bear witness to my blushing at any opportunity skills.  It's a gift, I tell you...).  It's also the one thing that my mum would have been SO so proud of!

You can see the full article here...

But a quick edit of what I chose to feature on the shoot.

First up - all the practical.  Faux fur shearling keeps the price down with a cashmere treat on the side (perfect for the Christmas list).

If you're anything like me and spend most Winter weekends on the sidelines watching your kids do sport, at the very least you can make sure you look warm AND stylish at the same time.  Cashmere accessories are a must and an oversized biker is perfect for layering knitwear underneath.

Black skinny jeans £19.50

Black boots £49.50

Cashmere hat £39.50

Cashmere scarf  £45

If you're looking for one coat to add an instant lift to your wardrobe then look no further than this belted check wool coat.  I can guarantee this will work with all the basics that you already have - the perfect partner to a whole host of neutrals.

Now this does say that it's a pink mix.  I have to say, I struggle to see a lot of pink pink in it - it's definitely a raspberry - I would say it's more of a red.  I will also say, it looks VERY expensive in the flesh.

Black Boots £49.50 (as above)

Red Cashmere scarf £125

Checked coat £125

Black cashmere polo neck £99

Trainers £45

No I'm not "actually" going running in these... all hail the new ugly trainer which we can now legitimately wear during the day when there isn't a hint of exercise happening.  They may take some getting used to but maybe the fact that they are ludicrously comfortable tempt you?  Like wearing your slippers out... honestly we will ALL be wearing these come next year - get ahead of the game now.

Leather trousers £199

Pure luxury in a coat that you will have in your wardrobe forever.  It's not often that you find a coat that's a modern classic that you could wear over jeans or over a dress to a black tie function.  This elegant and versatile shade of charcoal goes with simply everything, the texture of the coat just elevates it to a very special piece you'll want to wear every day.

The Winter alternative to a blazer - lightweight but slightly more substantial which is perfect for work, for play and will easily take you into Spring too.  Team now with leather trousers and knitwear plus classic Winter accessories - I also love this style of coat over midi dresses and ankle boots.  Slogan tee or knit and wide leg trousers would also work as well - and yes, it's the trainers again!

And then just finishing with my favourite shot because...

So I hope that gives you some idea of how to mix and match Winter outfits - these are obviously very much of the practical variety but I will say that certainly the leather trousers, the cashmere jumper (not the hoodie!) and the three coats that aren't the navy faux shearling would all work perfectly for a smarter work wardrobe too.

My advice when looking to purchase new Winter items for your wardrobe is to pick pieces that you will wear again and again - that will double up for work and for play.  I do know that some people like to have separate wardrobes but personally I would rather invest in something that I LOVE, knowing I can wear it more than one occasion.

This isn't something I've not mentioned a million times but I do think it's something that's worth reminding ourselves of.  I have lots of Christmas blog ideas coming up and I absolutely promise you - these are going to be all items you can wear not just for Christmas.

But I also promise that I will be back tomorrow with more boots.

This blog was written - unedited - for Style & Living at Marks and Spencer as part of my paid monthly edit with them.
