I'm back with my favourite topic...

as I haven't done it for ages and, like I said yesterday, I have a GEM of a buy to show you.

Yes it's dresses.  Yes I sound like a stuck record.  But, as I always say, it is my most requested blog post and one that so many of you want more ideas about.

And we are coming up to the festive season and not everyone wants a full on glitterball number for all those parties they don't actually have to attend.  But I'm not sure there would be anyone amongst us who doesn't love to feel good over the festive season.  Even if it's just for Christmas Day or for drinks with family, friends or colleagues.

So I'm starting with the maxi midi variety as personally I do find those easiest to wear. And the most versatile.  But with my newly found freedom of knees, I have some shorter ones up my sleeve too - for another day.

Why is it that I find midaxi dresses the most useful?  You can layer under or over them (I'm definitely an over girl), you can wear with or without tights, dress them up or down and they go with all sorts of footwear - for me, it's all about ankle boots and trainers.  That pretty much sums up what I wear on my feet for 99.9% of the Autumn/Winter season.

Jacket wise - they are the perfect partner to a biker, I love with a trench coat and am rather obsessed with blazers at the mo (although the hunt for a good longline frock style one goes on...).  I've even managed to find a boxy shearling which is all sorts of divine.

But that's enough about the fripperies - hopefully over the years I've given enough ideas of how versatile they can be if they're your style, let's see what options we've got and I'll give you some suggestions of how I would style them and where I would wear them.

Starting with the one that I adore.

Monki High Neck Maxi Dress in Blue £40

And here I am in the dress....(in the 12 by the way which is the 38 as it comes up small - I would say the 12 is a 10)

Miss Selfridge Blouson Maxi Dress in Brown Spot £45

ASOS Design Tiger Print Dress £42

The deep v is super flattering for so so many people and also quite nice for a dressy occasion to have a little bit of décolletage on show.  Easy to cover up with a scarf for when you're out and about.

Hope and Ivy Wrap Front Dress £80

Maxi love again at Mango.

Printed Chiffon Maxi Dress £99.99

Keeping the Margo theme going...

Floral Print Dress from Mango £79.99

NA-KD Tiger Print Dress £45   This one I would definitely add a belt to.  Chunky if that's your style, or a thinner one - but I think it would look a lot more expensive with something round the middle.

Keeping in the animal theme with a leopard "gown".  What's not to love about a gown?!

Leopard gown from Mango £59.99

And one for the more petite amongst you.

ASOS Petite Maxi Print Ruffle with floral print was £45 now £31.50

It doesn't have to be all dark for the Winter season though... this gorgeous pale coloured paisley dress with the addition of metallic thread would be amazing with gold flat shoes or little ankle boots.

Neon Rose Maxi Smock Paisley Metallic Dress £36

Foil Spot Pleated Midi Dress from Warehouse £65

And finishing with two asymmetric hem versions which I completely love - the first one is on my wish list and the second one I have.

Asymmetric Paisley Dress from Warehouse £99

Soleste Dress from hush £99

And here I am - actually in the hush dress!  With a jumper over the top...

So tomorrow, I am off up to Wilmslow in Cheshire to visit my lovely lovely friend Jo who owns the boutique Black White Denim.  I will be there to promote the True Colours range of jumpers which I have helped design to raise funds for the National Autistic Society in collaboration with Orwell + Austen and The Brand Ambassador's Agency.  I WILL be doing a big talk about them on here but tomorrow, I will be waxing lyrical to anyone who will listen in Cheshire!

And so I will be wearing of them - green and pink I think... with a pink pleated skirt and the Chloe boots and just deciding what jacket!  Let's assume a biker...!

Hope everyone is having a great week - blogging mojo definitely back in the room - the holiday ones are ON THEIR WAY!  And I am definitely getting into the Christmas spirit...

  1. I love these dresses and the way you wear them has inspired me to have a style overhaul because you've shown me how to wear them for work and at the weekend. I particularly like the Hush Soleste dress but I suspect that it would be a bit long for my 5'3" frame. Thanks for the inspiration xx
