It's officially too cold to think about Spring clothes today

So I'm going to shelve the post I did have planned and save that for the weekend when it's due to be 19 degrees here.  Oh YES!  (just count how long it takes for me to whinge that it's too warm.. I'm nothing if not reliable)

But today I have been freezing.  I have layered up proper winter stylee and am sat here now snuggled in three layers (admittedly we are rather bereft of radiators downstairs, waiting for our underfloor heating to be fitted)  and a scarf.

My outfit from today and the one I've thought about wearing tomorrow (sit ups at the gym this morning - this is what I think about.  I know I'm utterly insane but it beats thinking about a) how much it hurts or b) how I'm probably not doing them right at all) are all about the sweatshirt.

Last Summer my breakthrough item of clothing was definitely the dress and this Winter it has been the shirt and sweatshirt combo for me. (and the coat but that doesn't work for the purpose of this post so we'll gloss over that)

I have loved them and they have served me well.  They are also the perfect transitional piece (could I sound more crappily faux fashionista?!) into Spring.  Perfect for now with a shirt underneath, then we can move to a collar or a longline vest.   I love mine with an oversized shirt and skinnies or on its own with boyfriend jeans.  Either a coat, loose jacket and take your pick of the array of shoes that are out there.  My choice would be either my brogues (as per today) or my new balance (to be seen tomorrow) or skate shoes (which I don't own but am going to pick up the lorry load that I ordered tomorrow - I promise to live tweet the hilarity late morning/lunchtime).  The latter is clearly a maybe..... I do also love with my Ash Virgins and Ash Thelma wedges.  So many options.

And then there are so many differentials between the sweatshirts themselves.  Logo, stripe, plain - the choice is yours.

I'm over the moon with my couple that I have (by couple I mean a lot) and would potentially struggle to justify another one.

That is of course until I came across this little beauty at John Lewis.  In a section that I would normally not look at but I was browsing last week with two girlfriends and we were all quite smitten with what we stumbled on.

This one caught my eye and went straight onto my April wishlist.

I love a breton, I really do.  I have bretons and whilst one can never have too many in navy (I could possibly justify pretty much every permutation if I tried hard enough) I don't have anything like this in a black breton.  This to me is the perfect foil for all things leopard (and I do have my beloved new FWM coat and am awaiting hopefully a pair of leopard skate shoes - not to be worn together I hasten to point out) and just ideal for the plethora of black and camel that I have in my wardrobe.

Wouldn't look too shabby with black Mint Velvet triple zip jeans, emerald green Zara coat, skate shoes either black or leopard and either black Alexander Wang or stone Anya bag.  Not that I plan anything ahead this much.  Obviously not.....

Can I please point out it looks a lot better in real life...

Collection Weekend by John Lewis Black and oatmeal Stripe sweat top £39.00

Another striped one but this time in a more classic navy version is available at Whistles.

Becca Stripe Sweatshirt - on offer  was £75 now £60 - brand day at House of Fraser - thanking you kindly.

There are some neutral ones around.

Mango Metallic Sweatshirt £34.99

Whistles Margie Boxy Sweat shirt in orange - was £75 now £45

ASOS Boyfriend Sweatshirt in Lilac £16 This is the most gorgeous colour when paired with navy or pink, it really.  I have noticed that my Zara floral trousers have more than a hint of lilac in them - it's usually a colour that makes me want to vomit but I have done a total volte face and am verging on entranced with it.  No change there then.

In Bubblegum pink £16

In navy £16

Still very neutral here from ASOS

ASOS Boyfriend Sweatshirt with Contrast Raglan £16 Grey and nude

And in navy and white £16

Mine I wore today is a print sweatshirt and there are some gorgeous print ones available this season.

Maison Scotch Sweatshirt with woven jacquard panel £95

Esprit Printed Woven Sweat front jumper £29

Samsoe & Samsoe Fort O Neck top £99 from Atterley Road

Now we come to vocab logo.  I don't have one of these and I'm not entirely sure I'll be getting one - merely as I am still hanging on to dreams of the Never Tear Us Apart tee or the Run DMC one..... But if didn't already have a plethora of image logo sweats, these would definitely be top of my list.

Mango Hipster Sweatshirt £19.99

Whistles have a couple of fabulous ones which are on offer, as I mentioned, at the moment at both John Lewis & House of Fraser (think this may end tonight or Friday though....)

Whistles Jolie Logo Sweatshirt now £60 was £75

Fleur top from Whistles again £60 was £75

Je Voudrais again from Whistles £60 instead of £75

You see now I said I liked the first one but then I may have come across this Zoe Karssen one.... I know it's been done to death but sod it, I still love and in my book, done to death is therefore a classic.

Zoe Karssen Black Bat Jumper £93 from My Wardrobe

If you don't like the round neck that is classic of a sweatshirt then I have a couple of v necks which give you the sweatshirt look but with a different neckline.

Whistles Ink Blot Print Sweatshirt in Black Multi was £125 now £60

Err  I said a couple but actually the other one from French Connection which I saw in store, I simply cannot find on their website.  Which isn't irritating much.... As soon as I do find it I'll let you know as it's fab.

Here I am today sporting one of my aforementioned sweatshirts.  This is honestly one of the hardest working pieces in my wardrobe (yes, I can hear it every night when I fold it away, moaning like a good 'un at being overworked and underpaid).  They really can be the most useful tops.

  1. Great post, says fellow sweatshirt lover. I *may* have 3 sweatshirts in grey, but each are distinctive. My favorite has to be my black and white houndstooth print, it pops with red and well, with most everything else.

    1. oh god I so need to schedule a trip to Primark..... it's just in the most difficult of locations! And to be fair by the tie I've got there, paid the toll for the bridge and spend £40 no other shite I don't need, I may as well just get the New Look one!! GAH! But just in case.... is it in men's or women's.... Thank you so much for the tip off. (did they have ny others, just to tempt me further??!)

    2. It was womens, exactly the same as the New Look one. they typically always seem to have Rolling Stones ones too. Every time I go in and see the Run DMC one I think of you. It's been in stock for a little while now, to be fair, so I'm not sure whether this is one that will 'run and run' (ho!) or whether it will disappear forever. Regards, World of Sheds
