Can you master....
..cream jeans? Or white jeans? Essentially those of the light, neutral variety.
I'm going to throw it out there, that my days of skinny white jeans are long gone. Liz Hurley may still have been pulling them off at 44 but Liz Hurley I am not. A straight jean is definitely a contender but I have come to terms with spray on skinny being a thing of the past. I've tried on a few this season and I've reached the point where the cellulite has tipped the balance and the "about to burst their skin" sausage look, is all consuming, regardless of how expensive the jean. After all, it is just denim. It's not magic.
However there is something deliciously decadent about wearing white denim. I say white.. I actually mean ecru. A slightly grungier, less Liz Hurley sloaney version of white white. This is my poison of choice and binge on it I would love to do. They just ooze summery vibes. And are such an instant wardrobe lift. Throw on your old tees and a blazer and suddenly you look like you're Riviera bound. I say this with more than a dose of optimism, as I had mine on the other day and my wonderful friend from Paris, greeted me with "Oh my, you look so French". So that's me wearing these, day in, day out until it snows. I wasn't even wearing a breton top. (I may have been wearing an Isabel Marant jacket which may have helped a tad).
There are therefore, options we can wear without needing to resort to lypo.
First up - straight leg.
ASOS Florence Authentic Straight Leg Jeans with Extreme Dishevelled Hems £32
Straight leg at AG.
AG Jeans Isabelle in Year 1 Jeans £230
Boyfriend style at Tommy Hilfiger.
Tommy Jeans Mom Jeans £110
Cheaper at Vero Moda - Mom Jeans £32
Or a bargain pair from Waven.
Waven Elsa White Mom Jeans was £52 now £28
If you fancy much wider. And these are MUCH wider. But there's something about them I like.. (it's not the belt).
Free People Run Through the Moss wide leg jeans £108
But my favourite is the loose err I don't really know what shape it is. It's looser than straight leg.. relaxed I guess? Basically it's an off white version of my beloved MiH Phoebes. Which would be perfect if they did them in a neutral shade, but they don't.
Dr Denim Haze Mid Rise Relaxed Crop Jeans £50
These are slightly distressed - perhaps too much for most, but I adore the shape.
The Highwaist Straight Mid Rise Jeans from Current/Elliott were £289 now £115.60
But finishing with my favourite. To rival the Phoebes. For less than half the price. The perfect colour, the perfect soft slouchy denim, the perfect off white with a hint of stone, just perfect.
Girl Meets Boy Jean from Me+Em £110 My advice would be to size up one size if you do want that looser look. I usually wear a 27 in jeans, sometimes a 28 and took a 28 in these.
And here I am - this is from Tuesday actually - god knows where this week has gone - in my Girl Meets Boy jeans.
Tee - Amercian Vintage at Quattrorish
Girl Meets Boy Jeans - Me+Em
Red Superstar sneakers - Golden Goose
Black boucle jacket - Isabel Marant
Skinny Shark Scarf - Rockins
Half Moon Bag - APC
So I have had a ridiculously busy couple of days - 10 hours yesterday watching sport (6 hours of footie tournaments followed by 4 hours of rugby festivals - and yes I was broken afterwards and resorted to gin in a tin) and today - on the train at 7 and home at 8.30pm after working all day with hush in Bath at The Bath Priory (ok so it was a superb day and I'm lucky to be able to call it work but it's still tiring... especially when you get home and it take you an hour to put your children to bed. SERIOUSLY - how is it that bedtime is more traumatic now than it was when they were toddlers? And it wasn't great back then! If someone had told me this, I may have put them up for adoption years ago....).
Tomorrow, I'm off to do some research for an article I'm writing over the weekend and then I need to find time to pack for hols. But on hols we go and I am beyond beyond looking forward to it. Just what will this weather be doing? Am I going to need to pack my entire wardrobe like I usually do?
And I must know - are you a yes, I love a white pair of jeans or no, you saddo Liz Hurley wannabe, get back in your box..?!
LOVE the Me & Em ones. I find white jeans can be a tad tricky and I have a few pairs hanging in my wardrobe, more in the spirit of optimism than likelihood of being worn (I too dread that bursting sausage effect). Recently bought some of the really wide legged cropped versions from Uniqlo and, I must admit, I was about to package them back up and send them straight back - they looked wrong in every way. But I did try them on and was pleasantly surprised - not unflattering at all, If that makes sense. The husband even quite liked them, before muttering something about them reminding him of The Nolan Sisters (I nearly did send them back for that remark). I think I would definitely wear the Me & Em jeans though - no Nolans there!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the Nolans ever wearing white wide cropped jeans?!! I LOVED the Nolans so would be a compliment for me, for sure!!!
DeleteBought and returned a lot of white skinny; the only white pair I have had for two and 1/2 year was the boyfriend jeans by Baukjen, but was looking for something a little longer and dressier. Found this

and I think it is a good as it is going to get... still Hurley-esque, a tad, but doesn't strangle my knees, and not too sloaney... I think in summer white trousers - if one can 'afford' to wear them - are great.

They're fab!
DeleteI have a pair of white jeans from a few years ago, strongly I didn't wear them at all last year, maybe to do with having adopted a rottweiler and knowing they'll be even harder to keep clean! I should probably just get into the habit of changing after we've done the dog walk! Love your outfit, a great way to style them.
ReplyDeleteThey are definitely definitely not dog walking trousers!!
Delete**Cough** I'm still a white skinny jean wearer and I dog walk in them too. But I also have looser cuts. Love the Me&Em ones Kat x
ReplyDeleteWell they do straight in the machine, don't they?! I wouldn't go on a field or wood walk with them on but would deffo walk round town!
DeleteI have shoe issues. I always end up with matching shoes and top and then feel vaguely faint as I think back to the days of matching curtains and duvet cover! I know a lot of the ones you have shown are styled like that so maybe I should worry less. I have cropped boyfriend ones that I love but rarely wear for fear of dirt - I don't seem to have grown out of wiping my hands on my trousers. Might dig them out soon - it's far too hot at the moment :D xx
ReplyDeleteAnd the heat has gone.. get those white jeans out! That was Summer come and gone!! (I hope not - I SO SO hope not!!!)
DeleteI have a couple of pairs of ecru boyfriend jeans from Uniqlo (quite possibly at your suggestion?). They're very comfy, with just the tiniest bit of distressing - none of that extruding flesh malarkey... I also bought the wide leg cropped ones this year in a very pale denim. They look quite cute.
ReplyDeletePerfect! I always forget about Uniqlo jeans until they've all sold out. DUH!
DeleteThe beauty of white jeans is that you can wear and wash them as many times as you want without feare of them fading. Result
ReplyDeleteSo true!
DeleteI love them... and what's wrong with looking like Liz Hurley??? (she's in super shape!) And she does fantastic swimwear. The White Company used to do great white jeans but have ruined all their jeans by adding too much stretch. x
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, I don't look anything like Ms H - just a sad imitation with too much cellulite on show!!! Oh and jeans with too much stretch - massive massive bugbear of mine.... They look perfect for 10 mins and then a crock for the rest of the day. WHY don't they learn?!
DeleteI am a white jeans wearer and have just bought a pair from-ahem-Esprit of all places. They're high-ish waisted and joy of joys stretch to 'a good relaxed slightly loose not quite boyfriend fit' after a couple of hours. I'm really happy with them and seem to be able to keep them clean most of the time. Can't not wear white jeans in the summer although I must confess I'm a bit tempted by the Me + Em's you've shown.......
ReplyDeleteCan I ask which style they are? They sound fab, but there are loads on their website. Thanks!
DeleteI have loads of jeans from Esprit, their slim fit is perfect for me. I tend to go for high or medium waisted, and avoid the low waisted ones. Don't know if it's the same in the UK, but they have low cost p&p, and fere returns.
Deletethat should read "free" returns!
DeleteI think you can only get Esprit online now... I will have a look!
DeleteTommy Stokes stretch white jeans this spring: https://www.flickr.com/photos/28204187@N08/33874110445/stats/
ReplyDeleteI've always steered clear of white jeans being a classic English pear shape, figure they just won't flatter my ample behind! Am I wrong though??
ReplyDeleteI don't think it matters at all but I would definitely go for a looser style in your size... Skinny probably wouldn't work but there's no reason why you shouldn't try a boyfriend (have a look at Baukjen actually!)
DeleteI bought high waisted APC ones this year.... they come up small but are SUPER flattering... PHF. x
ReplyDeleteAPC jeans are SO SO flattering - and you've just reminded me I bought the most amazing pair of high waisted skinny distresed blue ones in the sale in Florida last year. THANK YOU!!!
DeleteIgnore me. They weren't APC. They were AG. Too. Much. Coffee....
