The 80s have called...

... and they want their boots back.

But they can't have them as I am officially addicted to them.  So what the actual chuff am I writing about boots for in Summer?

Ok so to keep you going in this heat, I've written an article here for The Pool on sandals - I will get around to exploring more if people are still in need of summer shoes?

However for me - even in the heat, I can't get enough of ankle boots.

And to be specific - as there is a specific style that I am obsessed with - pointy and kitten heels.  The classic 80s witchy boot.  Which I think belongs firmly in the tensies... what are they going to be called?  We had the noughties - what on earth is this decade called?

But I digress...I have been asked so so often where my red boots are from - the answer is Topshop but the real answer is that they've sold out now.  As I'm tired of apologising for not being able to get hold of them anymore AND because I want a tan and/or white pair, I am on a witchy boot hunt.  This is not their official name by the way, this is what I call them.  Or as the husband likes to call them "horrid boots".

First up - what does Topshop have to offer?

Well mine are red and these would work for sure.

Monica Pointed Kitten Heels in red £69

However, these in red from M&S.  Oh hello...

Leather Kitten Heel Ankle Boots £69

Black patent Monica boots at Topshop £69

Black leather at Jil Sander from Avenue 32 was £525 now £210

Suede at Urban Outfitters £79

Suede again at & Other Stories.

Kitten Heel Suede Boots £95

Black again at Topshop in suede with studs.  LOVE.

Ascot Studded Suede Ankle Boots from Topshop £72

Tan now at Topshop £72

Mimosa Metallic Ankle Boots from Topshop £65  I love these.  I wasn't sure but they grow on you.  I've mentioned this concept to the husband before and his answer is always "what, like mould?" but nope - I think these could be a real contender.  Although they *are* slightly on the high side for every day tramping around.

Then, there's pale blue at Zara.  I want to love them.  I think I might love them.  I need to ponder colour options.  Black and pale blue, gorgeous.  Will look amazing with denim.  I'd love to think forward to Autumn and teaming them with burgundy but dare I say Aston Villa, West Ham?  Yikes...

Mid-heel leather ankle boots from Zara in pale blue £69.99

And pushing the boundaries now - although we all know how much I love a statement boot and alas, I couldn't find any leopard so these two are the next best options.

Snakeskin at Urban Outfitters £79

Farrah Ankle Boots from Hobbs were £199 now £79

But be still my beating Bronski Beat heart.  M&S, oh how I love you.

M&S Kitten Heel Leather Boots in white £69

I have managed to procure myself another pair today, for the tidy sum of £15.99 from Zara.  I have pretty much looked in every jumble sale - sorry Zara store in the sale (seriously - HOW hideous a shopping *experience* is it?  Akin to shopping torture) for these.  I would have paid full price for them but only realised after they'd long gone in the season that I couldn't live without a pair (many pairs..) of kitten heel boots.   The fact they're not *exactly* my size is probably something I'll live to regret - especially as they're not leather (I know - what a gobknob, what am I thinking?).  I reckon they might stretch though (*prays to god of stretching boots or maybe I'll just have a toe lobbed off as they are almost identical to the Jil Sander ones but for £15).. maybe I'll try and wear them in round the house (and no doubt take them back, DANG IT!).

So talk to me about the 80s boots.   Will I be on my own rocking many pairs?  I think I might need the white M&S ones.  My only concern is, will they be too big on the ankle?  I will do the trying on and report back.

And today, the sun came out!

Tomorrow, off to London to have my hair coloured at the lovely Josh Wood with Mads - fitting it in before the madness that is the holidays begin (and whilst I can get sitters and the nanny to cover work, it does seem ridiculously decadent to get my hair done), then meetings and a little lunch.  Bring it on Tuesday!

  1. Nope, sorry these are yuk I just can't deal! Reminds me of bad shoes before the spice girls came and introduced me to the joy of platforms!!
Also too much like bad work shoes?! I'm sure by autumn I will be merrily wearing the pale blue monstrosities and you will have proved me wrong but for now - yuk!

  2. Sorry, it's a vote 'no' from me as well! I'm in block heaven at the moment as I've got some great seventies style sandals as well as some olive green suede ankle boots, and I'm in no hurry to go back to little pointy toes and heels. I'll let you enjoy these boots by yourself, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who'll love them too!

  3. At first I though "no thank you!" But a few pictures down and I think they're growing on me (maybe like mould?). I like the studded Topshop ones as well as the silver. I've just got a pair of silver ankle boots albeit not as bright in the H&M sale and so far everyone hates them. They're on my Instagram @nowivedoneit I'm sure you'd support me!

  4. quite fancy some of these till I remember how they always get stuck between pavement slabs ripping off the small heel, then I go skidding around on the metal but sticking out before chucking them in the back of the wardrobe because am sick of trips to the cobblers.

    1. This was me in my Tabitha Simmons ones theFIRST time I wore them! Had them repaired and they're as good (better) than new!

  5. I'm in! Love kitten heels, so comfy. Next have some great options ( I was looking online for sandals and bit distracted) and a pair of leopard print with kitten heel in the sale for £30 whoop whoop!

  6. The blue Zaras will be perfect for my next trip to the Olympic stadium (the things we do for our menfolk) and I am completely in love with the Hobbs zebras.
    Nothing beats a pointy boot.
Actually I might need the silver ones too.

  7. Ooooo I do love all of these- love a kitten heel but really like the silver pair and the studded TS ones. This could be something to do with age 12 obsessively wanting a pair of "granny boots" as we called them so we could magically become our pop idol Madonna (many many hours of watching videos of her live in concert do her dance routines in boots much like this) also wanted that cool pair she had in desperately seeking Susan. I know clearly I need some help!

  8. Now, usually any reference to the eighties brings me out in hives (in Starbucks this morning they were playing an 80's compilation album and it made me feel very uncomfortable - the decade of cringe and not my finest).
    However.
These have made me crave a kitten-heeled sock boot I can slide on under sharp jeans or with a mini skirt. Thinking French insouciance, tousled hair (easily done), loose silk blouse with one more button undone than is strictly decent...certainly food for thought.

  9. Sorry, it's a no from me too - I wobble all over the place in any kind of heel, so I'd be arse over tit in these in seconds! I think the girly gene skipped me entirely...

  10. Love the red M&S boots - any feedback on the 'wide-fit'? Size guide doesn't provide info. Is this quite different from regular sizes? Am ordering from Canada. Thanks!

    1. Size down one half size. That's worked for me. BUT I think M&S shoes come up big anyway - sorry - that's probably not remotely helpful!

    2. I will try them on for you - I'll order them tonight. Will let you know in the next day or so, if that's ok x

  11. I'm with the comment above...where I live there are loads of cobbles and I literally wouldn't make it 5 paces in any of these. And Kat, totally agree re. Zara...and to boot, (haha), our local store must surely top the ranks for grumpiest Zara store workers. I also bought a pair of boots from Zara, in the sale, that weren't *quite* my size. Safe to say, I have worn them once, hobbled like an old lady (nothing to do with the cobbles...) and they now reside at the back my wardrobe in the hope my feet shrink...

  12. I love this style of boot and have been wearing them for years, think they're super flattering and go with everything! Great choices above... have my eye on the blue Zara ones and white M&S ones. Enjoy the hairdressers, I LOVE getting my wig seen to!

  13. The Zara ones are lovely! I have the flower print (Balenciaga knockoff) ones from last season, they make NAY outfit. Two things they must be snug around the ankles and over the instep (?!?!?!) Topshop tends to do high insteps which to me make them look cheap and clumsy.

  14. I have an idea, anytime you can't do a blog post maybe your husband could write one, I always laugh whenever you write about your husbands comments. I think it could make for a very entertaining read getting his take on the latest fashion trends.

  15. I would so like to be in the 'Yes' camp. But I know I'm a practical girl at heart, and flats are what I reach for on a daily basis. I own heels, including heeled boots, but they are used sparingly. The intention is there, but when it comes down to it the will is lacking.
Oh, and inspired by your post on silk shirts, I started looking for that elusive navy one, and there on Me & Em I discovered one that had been sold out in my size was back in stock, and was massively discounted in the sale, so it's now winging its way to me!

  16. Yes, yes, yes... bought black suede pair in Clarkes sale 2 years ago for €20. They have been best buy ever adding an edge or polish depending on outfit. Hoping Clarkes do a repeat...
