If you kiss enough jumper frogs...
..... you will eventually find a jumper prince. Hallefreakinglujah!
So I can bring you all of one jumper recommendation. In one colour. Which is utterly pants. A truly pathetic attempt at offering up fatted calves of the jumper variety but in my defence, as I have mentioned before, I have been housebound (she says dramatically) due to smallest RR not going to school full time. I have, however, had access to the minefield that is online shopping.
And I have struck gold. Once. Which is better than nothing. And will hopefully be the start of a fountain of jumper wonderfulness.
But the best bit - oh the best bit, is that it's.....drum roll...... £19. Yup, £19. Ok so I should backtrack slightly and say that this is an every day, bung on, bring your wardrobe up to date, functional jumper. You will not be sporting it on a girl's night out (she says assuming glibly that you look forward to your girl's nights out as much as I do and use it an excuse to get dressed up to the nines) but it's a great little addition to your wardrobe. If you're going down the plum route that is....
If not, just scroll down to something else.
If you're still here - here it is. It passes the shape test, the fabric test and the feel test. In fact everyone that said they liked it today, couldn't believe that it was from Dorothy Perkins and only cost £19 (I am that awful person who says "ooh you'll never believe how cheap it was" rather than nodding sagely and thanking them gracefully for their compliment.)
It's unbelievably billy basic but it's also unbelievably useful and versatile. I have worn it today and shall be definitely wearing it again before the week is out.
I also come bearing gifts of a coated trouser variety if you're interested. I actually went onto the website originally as a friend of mine had the most fantastic coated oxblood jeans on and said they were from Dotty P's! So I went to order them (just in case - I didn't hold out much hope of them being long enough or a good fit etc etc) and as I am an utter tightwad when it comes to paying postage - it made obvious sense to order a shed load more, just to avoid paying it. The Husband has rolled his eyes in disbelief previously at my logic but it makes perfect sense to me. Of course it does only work if you are vigilant about returning what you don't want (and making sure you don't want it all.......) and ignore the fact that the carpark probably costs as much as the P&P in the first place. Details schmetails.
I am desperate for a pair of coated skinnies that aren't black - ideally a grey would be fantastic but there are a pair of carmine high gloss Helmut Lang ones that have caught my eye. However at nearly £200 I'm too scared to order them in case I love them and have to eat toast for the rest of the month. And send my children up chimneys.
So I thought I'd try these. And they are pretty darn good. A great fit for me (nice and high on the waist thank goodness) although they are a couple of inches too short. But they actually work with ankle boots (so long as I don't cross my legs when I sit down....) and for less than £20 (I got them at the weekend when there was an offer on - worth watching out for as DP's do them a lot) they are definitely keepers. Not sure whether they will stretch too much or not, but if they do, I shall be taking them back.
Oxblood coated skinny jeans
Now clearly that didn't take me up to the P&P free limit (ok so maybe it did but humour me, I was on a roll) and so these also slipped into my basket as they were again sub £20 and I was looking for some to wear during the day as opposed to my Cos ones which I tend to keep for the evening. Coated skinny black trousers. Which they didn't have in tall so I ended up trying jeggings holding zero hope of them being remotely wearable.
Well.
These are Amazing. I adore them. Completely love them - have worn them all day and they are the most comfortable trousers i've had on in eons. Not clingy like I believe jeggings normally are and with loads of stretch but not too stretchy they lose their shape. And for me (not for everyone an issue but a huge bonus!) they're long. They look like a pile of poo in the photos online but trust me, they're great for the price and for an every day smarter trouser. They're also not nearly as skin tight as they look in this pic. See photo of me below wearing them.
Black coated jegging in tall (also in other sizes on website)
There are a couple of other jumpers I've got my eye on online - I'm hoping to go and have a look tomorrow (when I return the other sizes that didn't fit!) and will report back. That jumper fountain should hopefully be flowing shortly....
Now to prove that I love what I had delivered, here I am wearing the jumper and the jeggings today. Really really pleased with them. With the River Island vest - an outfit (admittedly not including scarf, bag, bracelet or boots) for less than £40!
Warning this is a truly abysmal photo as it was beyond wet this afternoon and we ran out of time to explore lighting opportunities in the house. RR1, aka Junior Annie Leibovitz (clearly in need of some training - or maybe she's got her heart set on an M&S online photographer's gig.) insisted that this was ok. Her insistence may have been somewhat due to her potentially being late for Brownies.
So here we have a pathetic attempt at me showcasing my new purchases.
Black ribbed vest - River Island
Plum boxy jumper - Dorothy Perkins
Black coated jeggings - Dorothy Perkins
Fuchsia & blush Camel scarf - Virginia Johnson
Black suede and leather ankle boots - LK Bennett
Tan leather cuff - Mulberry
Stone maxi zip satchel - Anya Hindmarch
I may well wear the jumper tomorrow to try and get a better pic of it. Hope someone likes it!!
Oh I love DP...got a fab oversized grey jersey top there yesterday....great picks as always Kat, Avril x PS LOVE the new handbag!
ReplyDeleteThanks love! Have to say I'm not a huge fan but every now and again it's worth a look. Over the moon with my two purchases (and my scarf from there last year)
DeleteLove the jeans - both of them! Your writing always amuses me...love the boots too:) Must see if DP ships to the US - obviously worth a look next time I'm back - I don't remember it being much cop in the 80s when I shopped there along with Dorothy Kershaw's and Chelsea Girl!
ReplyDeleteTbh it's still hit and miss love. As are all the shops of that ilk which are probably aimed at a much younger target market. But every now and again it does throw up some gems! And it's very reasonably priced and they always have an offer of some sort on (which I love) xx
DeleteLove the jeans and jeggings!
ReplyDeleteDorothy Perkins has upped its game recently.
Sue
I would definitely say the quality has generally improved. Always having keeping an eye on, that's for sure!
DeleteKat! I bought the very same jumper in black and also in black and camel colour block........fantastic basics and look great with skinnies!l
ReplyDeleteClaireH
oh pooo didn't see it in any other colour. Yes they're great basics and great fabric aren't they? (are you ClaireH that I know??!!!!!!) xx
DeleteI ran through dotties last week when the offer was on but didn't stop as was late for lunch with a girlfriend, boy am I kicking myself now, love the jumper and that bag!!!
ReplyDeleteSlightly different note, your hair has looked fab in the last couple of posts x
Oh thank you love! I did a fashion show and so had it blow dried properly! Lasts a week so am v lucky (and lazy....)
DeleteI wrote Dotty Ps off in the late 80s but see it's overdue a visit...
ReplyDeleteDon't hold your breath but every now and again there's a wee gem in there!
DeleteHi kat - I have just ordered the black and red coated jeggings along with some black disco pants (yes disco pants) for my 16 year old daughter, so I am grateful for the recommendation. I am hoping that they will look as good on me as they do on you! Don't usually shop in DP's, but I have been trying for so long to find some black coated jeans that fit. Soooo here's hoping ... x
ReplyDeleteHow did they pan out?!!! Hope you liked them xx
DeleteOoooh, I like the look of those coated skinny jeans. What size did you go for? I'm normally a 10 but they're sold out so I am wondering if a 12 or maybe maybe maybe even an 8 would work?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I saw some gorgeous lace-print jeans the other day in Mango and am very, very tempted - they look like a decent length too. Not on the website, sadly, although lots of other rather lovely looking printed trousers are...
Aha - they are in fact on the website, cunningly disguised as being paisley. http://shop.mango.com/GB/p0/mango/clothing/trousers/printed-elastic-trousers/?id=71313454_CZ&n=1&s=prendas.pantalones&ie=0&m=&ts=1349267877891
DeleteI went for a 10. They seem to be back in stock now?
DeleteI actually think I'm a bit over printed jeans - although having said that, am eyeing up a pair of glitter ones from 2nd Day. Never rains but it pours............
But yes, I am loving printed trousers - although not sure if I can justify a pair. How much wear would I get out of them? hmmmm will have to maybe benchmark for sale.
Oh that sweater is yummy! And I love the price tag :)

P.S. I am hosting a beautiful giveaway and would like to invite you to take part, if you like the prize, of course. :)
Only just seen this and I'd love to take part if it's still open??!
DeleteGreat thank you - you have just saved me a fortune! Had spotted a burgundy jumper in Whistles (£85) and black coated skinnies in Massimo Dutti (£54.95). Which theoretically means I have saved £95 by going to Dotty Ps . . .
ReplyDeleteExcellent! So what are you going to buy with your savings?....!!
DeleteHi! Good job I live miles from you - in Hertfordshire!, I have ordered the jumper and coated skinnies, otherwise a load of clones running around! Did your H&M jumpers ever turn up? mine haven't

I've thought that too - a lot of "Copy-Kats" running around the country! She's an inspiration to lots of us.
DeleteOh that's so lovely, thank you xxx
DeleteMy jumpers turned up yesterday. Haven't opened them yet - think I may have gone off them. Even though they are only £3.99, not sure I need them. And despite being cheap, I honestly loathe loathe loathe having anything in my wardrobe that I don't wear. I may have an overload of stripe in my wardrobe.....
DeleteHi Kat, love the post as always. I've been buying DP jeans for a long time now - their size 12 is a perfect fit for me. I love those coated skinnies - haven't seen them in my (smallish) local branch so will be checking online. Take care x x
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hope you managed to track them down. xx
DeleteI love reading your blog, but often wonder if it's just me that reads them with envy. I love fashion put have trouble putting things together. I would love to be one of those mums on the school run that people would want to dress like. You always look fab and make it look easy, may have to pinch a few looks.
ReplyDeleteOh that's really lovely of you and pinch away. Glad to be of service xxxxxx
Delete*squeals with delight* I rushed out and bought those Jeggings this morning and they are the lushness of lushness (used my student union card 25% off) for £18.75!! I must confess that i have those jeggings in navy, black, mid blue and red. They are a staple in my wardrobe as i have so many problems with fit, and these are perfect. I am the opposite of you Kat, short at 5ft 2 and a size 14, so when i find something that fits and is THAT cheap it's a keeper!!
ReplyDeleteSharron x
Excellent!! xx
DeleteBeautiful outfit, looking stunning as always!
ReplyDeletesara x
Thank you xxxxx
DeleteA very handy jumper. I am living in my coated jeans. I got a plum pair and a fab olive green pair with zips at the sides in Oasis. As you say, they are very comfy
ReplyDeleteThey're great aren't they - I don't know what I'd have done without my black ones for the past 3 years!! xx
