And my favourite Spring colour is...

... khaki.  Yes, it's official, after becoming obsessed with my oversized scarf from ASOS which saved my frozen bacon in New York and gets so many positive comments whenever I wear it, I have developed a love in for all things olive.  (which is pretty much the same as khaki no?  I'm sure someone will educate me on the difference but I'm not fussy - I'll have either)

It probably hasn't escaped anyone's notice that I don't do much colour.  A small glimpse of it now and again but generally I am more comfy in neutrals.

And it's occurred to me that khaki is pretty much the perfect foil to go with all my other very plain colours.  I love it with black, I think it's ideal with shades of camel and tan and I'm also planning on wearing it with navy and grey.  In fact, I'm going to stick my neck out and say, it's another neutral.

Which is therefore the perfect excuse to get collecting.  What could be a better addition to a wardrobe, giving it a whole new injection of life, than another layer of interest in the form of a new neutral shade.

The beauty of this is that it fits in seamlessly and goes with most things that you already have.  As it is a neutral, it will also serve as a base to add a "proper colour" (I have one up my sleeve - coming up shortly)

I've had so much wear out of my scarf and since it doesn't look like the tropical temperatures of Spring are round any corner soon, I reckon it's got a bit more life in it this season.

This is the scarf that I have which I love.

ASOS Oversized Colorblock scarf in Khaki £20

Thinking about this, I already have a lot of khaki in my wardrobe and do add a bit to it every season.  My find of the Summer last year (although lots of people wouldn't agree with me) was my pair of paint splattered khaki chinos.  These are a much smarter variation on a theme (actually I've also just remembered I've got a khaki pair of silky loose pants from French Connection - snaffled in the sale a couple of years ago for £15.  Win win)

Khaki Cargo Trousers from Mint Velvet were £35 now £22

Also love these from New Look - their crepe joggers are amazing for the money, I absolutely promise you.  They've done them for the past couple of years and they are a total winner at this price.  Still perfect day wear with sneakers and a blazer (or throw on heels as below for a night out)

New Look Crepe Zip Cuff Jogger £19.99

Another trouser option is the cropped wide leg... now I prefer these to culottes.. I think... yes, the jury is out for me at the moment, I'm thinking I need to get my head around them but I reckon with good old Stan Smiths or any sort of sneaker or a multi strap fancy schmancy ballet flat, these could be a winner.  Yet another on the back burner item which I think may be a goer.

ASOS Trousers with deep waist in textured fabric £32

ASOS Woven Utility Trousers with D Ring £35

Moving onto tops.  I think khaki with dark indigo is one of the most elegant combos I can conjour up in my head at the moment.  The first top would be stunning with skinnies.  Add a layering tee underneath and a big scarf for when you head outside, this is just amazing Spring wear.  Imagine with a pair of kick flare jeans and camel boots... (she says knowing full well she has both of those items)

ASOS Cape with button detail £35

A classic crew is definitely an excellent idea - I love them in a thin knit for under coats now (perfect with a collar or layering tee) and also ideal for under a blazer with some boyfriend jeans and sneakers for when we don't have to schlepp around in a massive coat (can you tell I'm ever so slightly over Winter?)

Green Mini zip crew neck jumper from Warehouse now £20 in the sale

I'm definitely thinking a shirt could be very handy.  On my wish list coming up shortly are definitely oversized silky shirts.  I think they make such a flattering silhouette with a fitted blazer and skinny jeans.  I'm not going to mention a great muffin concealer but...

ASOS Casual Drape shirt in Khaki £32

However if I'm honest, this has to be a better bet for me - AND with an extra 10% off sales things from ASOS with the code FINAL10.

Pull&Bear Utility Shirt was £29.99 now £20.00

I'm still pondering this look - I'm thinking it will be hard to get the right proportion of jacket being tall but I do love the idea of a military style shirt as a simply summer throw on.  Great alternative to a denim jacket.

Green Casual Army Shirt Jacket from Warehouse £48  Love the styling with the breton stripe.  My love for khaki grows with each pic.

Another one is available from Hush - can't wait to see this one in real life.

Military Jacket in Khaki £65 but 10% off with the code SPRING15

You may have noticed that there is a distinct lack of mentioning of a khaki potential that I had had in mind - yes the Lowland Stuart Weitzman boots.  Which, I did go and try to buy on Monday.  After much pontification, I finally decided I could justify them - and had my hair shirt all prepared to wear for the next two months.  I had planned on full on abstinence after the boot splurge.

And they're sold out.  They are sold out at Russell & Bromley, they are sold out at Stuart Weitzman, they are even sold out in my size at £100 more at Selfridges and Harrods.

&*(((*())%^* was my response.  However, deep breath - they clearly weren't meant to be (I say as I weep)

It does however mean that I am able to look at other khaki items that I couldn't have worn with the boots, at the risk of looking like Private Benjamin.

I love this dress for every day dress down - perfect perfect perfect for the Spring.

Tall Tencel Shirt Dress from Topshop £36

Slightly dressier (I'd wear this out in the evening with heels) but it would also translate into a great day dress as well.

Hybrid Jersey Shirt Dress from Topshop £40

Speaking of shirt dresses, this one has to be worth a try for less than £25?!

Daisy Street Oversized Relaxed Shirt with Contrast Trim £24.99

Khaki makes an amazing print - I can't wait to wear my Baukjen shirt dress again which is a fab khaki leopard and this year they've done a similar print in a jersey dress.

Raeburn Print Dress £119 from Baukjen Love the way they style this with dress down skater shoes - would also be a great contender for a First Holy Communion dress with heels.  I'm thinking camel shoes and a matching camel or black bag.....

So - what do we think?  Are you a khaki fan?  On the upside it can't remind anyone of school uniform which so many other neutral colours can do (the main reason you'll never see me in either brown or bottle green)

Finishing with my outfit from yesterday which is where my khaki inspiration came from.

    1. ha ha, I was actually in doors most of the day. I honestly don't find my ankles get cold so long as the rest of me is warm. Weird, I know!

  2. It's Mrs Ebojones here! Adore khaki and that scarf is divine. I bought the Topshop shirt dress recently. Will be perfect when warmer with tan sandals.

  3. couldnt wear Khaki for over 25+ years due to being a military wife, we would all end up looking like we have tried to dress like our men. Love the oversized Asos scarf though. could be tempted by that as a first step into khaki.

  8. Khaki really suits you, but as said above, I really can't wear it. Or tan, camel etc. They make me look yellow! It is definitely a neutral, I find I can substitute slate blue/green for khaki quite well. Love the blanket scarf!

Spring really is a long way away. It can be deceptive when the frost has stopped (for a bit) and the days are getting longer. I think it's woollies for a while longer...

  11. My friend and I have big feet (and shoes) so trousers/jeans that fit close to the body make them look huge, (that's how I feel anyway.) Whats your solution? You seem to be able to wear anything.

    1. Ah, my feet aren't that big for my height. I'm only a size 6.5 or a 7 although I did try some Stan Smiths on which did make my feet look like boats. The white were fine but the black were HUGE - I'm hoping it was a stray pair... as I've ordered the navy ones which may be going straight back!

  12. The only khaki I currently own is an army jacket that I got from H&M a couple of years ago - reduced to £11! It's unlined so it's really a summer jacket, but I like layering it with a dusty pink or pale blue hoodie. Pretty much goes with everything!

  13. Oh my god it's like you've read my mind - I was just cooking up my spring look and decided khaki skinnies and tan high ankle boots were the way to go!! That Asos Cape has just made me squeal - it is stunning and yes loving the idea of khaki with indigo jeans - really classy. Do you think a dusty pink would go with khaki too? Got my eye on a dusty pink long line boyfriend slouch linen jumper to go with khaki - overkill? Off to asos site now as have just had my hair dyed a copper blonde which should go gorgeously with khaki. Have a fab weekend and sorry about your boots x

  16. Have always loved khaki :-) just ordered the khaki. Jacket from hush (even the hubbie approves) and I sneaked a few sale items in the basket at the same time. Got my eye on the metallic loafers from m&s too. Might wait for a 20% discount on those.

    1. OOh let me know what it's like - I'm hoping to go and see them shortly to look at their S/S collection as I missed their press day. And there has to be a 20% off soon. I am also hanging out for the Mango 30% off. They MUST do it again this season....

    2. so the hush jacket arrived and it is very lovely, but too boxy for me. I'm an hourglass. Normally a size 8, the size 10 was HUGE and the size 8 frankly a bit too snug across the hips and arms. Ah well.......
