Don't you love it...

...when an item of clothing that you've always rather liked, turns out to be the PERFECT solution to a problem.

Boiling hot weather.  But the need to be vaguely smart.  Not even smart per se but a lot of flesh isn't going to cut it.  Neither is anything that you could wear to the beach (slightly transparent kaftan that admittedly covers a multitude of sins - you're out).

Take a day trip to London for example.  Shopping with the 11yr old for back to school goodies.  A combination of congratulations in getting into your new school (vile exam to take which we haven't really celebrated) and good luck for life at secondary.  Yes you would think she were off to university or the French Foreign Legion the way I'm carrying on, when she will in fact merely be at school for an hour longer.  Ten miles away.

But anyway - a beach dress in central London is just... no.  As warm as it is (and 32 degrees is probably as hot as it gets here) the big department stores are all air conditioned to goose bump levels so more fabric is required.  However it must be loose but not too revealing, it must be easy to wear, hell it must be a jumpsuit.

This is the one that I wore - only available now in a few styles but Finery London has some amazing other options.  Along with Warehouse (some more below) they definitely share the jumpsuit throne this season.

Milford D Ring Pinafore Jumpsuit from Finery London £79  And I was asked by four different people where it was from as it was so lovely.

Classic navy version in the Thurlow Tailored Jumpsuit from Finery London £85

Super easy to wear now and in a flattering shade of purply, bluey indigoey iris...??  Which reminds me, I used to have an Acne dress this colour that I haven't seen for eons.  I fear it's languishing at the bottom of a laundry bin somewhere.  OMG the shame.  Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this?  Or maybe in the "summer" drawer along with all the shorts that haven't seen the light of day this season.

Apsley Utility Jumpsuit from Finery London £75

Moving onto some others now and to prove their versatility, how you can layer into the Autumn.  Or if a bra is an issue...

ASOS Jumpsuit with pleated culotte and cross back detail £45

However if we're looking for jumpsuit gold, we have (as I mentioned above) struck paydirt at Warehouse.  They have a new website (which I obviously need to explore more on another occasion, fingers crossed it's quicker than the old one) which is definitely worth a peruse.

Utility drawstring jumpsuit £45 - a perfect example of how easy they are to dress up and dress down.  As in this is dress down...!

I do know though that lots of you want to be able to wear a proper bra (as opposed to a strapless or letting them swing free.  Mine, being like two jaffa cakes that have been left out in the sun, don't so much swing as merely wobble, so I'm happy to go braless).   Well this one is perfect.  Simply perfect.

Khaki now and again from Warehouse, but apologies, again this is for those of us not blessed in the boobage department.

If you do want plain with sleeves, ASOS has a great option.

ASOS Kimono jumpsuit £50

Or in navy....

Selected Joey Wide Leg Jumpsuit £70

I have to say, were I to have discovered these earlier in the season, or were I to have a special occasion in the next couple of months (although I am off to Florida in October and this could rock then...hmmm) this would be amazing.  For next year even.  Print.  Print jumpsuits.

This is definitely my favourite and yes, Finery again.

Lumley Aztec Leopard Frill Wrap Jumpsuit £79

And finally one that's more casual but a bargain nonetheless.

Wide leg floral print jumpsuit from La Redoute was £26 now £18.20 with the code BANKHOL

So jumpsuits as the easy, no brainer, end of Summer option.  Yay or nay?  A definite yay from me and here I am in mine (and seriously seriously pondering the Finery one above).

Jumpsuit - Finery London
Sandals - & Other Stories
Red Soho Disco Bag - Gucci
Hat - H&M

So will bring you other outfits from the last couple of days hopefully tomorrow, if not over the weekend.  We are away for another week to Suffolk and to say I am excited, is an understatement.  Although I haven't remotely packed... that's something to do in the morning when I've checked the weather for the gazillionth time...

  1. Layering a sleeveless jumpsuit with tee, genius!! I don't like showing my arms so this is for sure an option for upcoming party in Autumn. Brilliant, Thanks Kat! X

    1. Well you're very kind but it was ASOS's styling!! But yes - it means super longevity for a Summer purchase into Autumn...! I'm jealous you have a party. I think I have a completely empty diary. SHOCK!!!

  2. Shame I can't really do jumpsuits, as these look great. Like dungarees, the waist is always in the wrong place for me - being average height at 5'6" but short of leg and long of torso... Also have boobage and broad shoulders to contend with, so I think this is something I'll just admire on other people!

    1. Oh there are lots of things I can't wear too (you'll never see me in anything super strappy camisole style for example!). Would be a dull world if we all wore the same thing, as I always say!

  3. Have a lovely week in 'My County'. We have had some truly fantastic weather for a while now - Irish Mother-In-Law declared it was "just like being abroad" (which it actually is for her...) But then it was raining and 15 degrees in her part of Ireland while she was lounging in the 34 degree sun here. She actually brought a change of clothes with her to the airport, to change into before she boarded the plane home as she was wearing a sundress and sandals, poor aul' thing ;-)

    1. And I fear I was lounging in the 15 degrees of rain whilst she was over here and I was over there..!!! My mother in law on the second day of 22degrees (I was still wearing a coat), declared that she was going to have to go and water all her plants as they were dying. After a day and a half of good weather. And a lifetime of rain.....!!!

  4. Love the jumpsuits but I am tall too. What's the body length like in the Finery ones? I have the hush one from last season. I love it but it's s real struggle to get in and out of. Xx

    1. I find the Finery one absolutely fine. Really really fine. (sorry for the pun!). I have the 10 as well so I didn't even size up. I would say it's longer in the body than the hush one. And yes, I think the hush ones (and I have a TS ones as well) are trickier to manoeuvre in and out of because of the sleeves and the doing up at the front. Being sleeveless it doesn't seem to be as bad at all!

    1. Not Kat but I have that dress too and sized down. Not often you can say that about H&M!!

  6. And I love jumpsuits but find them a bit of a pain when nature calls. But have one I wear with a white T and looking for others so thanks for the heads-up! Love the Finery one.

  7. That Finery purple one is gorgeous! I think I prefer a sleeveless one even though I don't like showing my arms as it can be layered! Would love one with a big utility zip!

  8. I've definately come round to the idea of jumpsuits, but the tincy wincy thing that's holding me back is the toilet issue. Mostly I'll see one online I like, and I can't see how to get in and out of the darn thing! Then I get side tracked by something else and the jumpsuit is forgotten....

  9. Love a jumpsuit. Have a gorgeous one from Whistles, which I wore last night, that is a bit similar to your Finery one. Don't find the toilet issue a problem to be honest, it's easier than readjusting top and skirt/pants! Have a lovely holiday Kat xx

    1. Get wearing them! I'm so looking forward to wearing mine into the Autumn actually. It's so easy to forget how easy they are to just throw on!

  12. Good luck with that 10 mile journey. We have the same, pain in the bloody arse when the son forgets his trainers or cooking ingredients. Love the idea of the cropped jumpsuit, wish I'd bought a couple before summer as they would have been so useful for the hols x

  13. That's a lovely jumpsuit, I seem to have missed the boat with them again this year. I have had them on a wishlist last summer and this summer too.

I had to laugh at the laundry bin comment. You are not alone. Last week I found a pair of my 10yr old's summer harems from last year in my ironing basket...

  15. Serendipitously, I bought two jumpsuits from Me + Em on the sale, very much reduced. Now that I see the selection you have here, I am so pleased I nabbed them, as they will be perfect for our hot summer here in South Africa. In fact, one has already been worn, out to a Wine Festival this week. The other one is quite long in the legs, but looking at the pics above, I think I'm going to crop them slightly . Due to your bad influence, Kat, I also bought myself a good few of your summer choices from Hush, also on the sale, and I am so thrilled with my purchases, that I've already worn them all more than once!

  16. Carol, living in Durban I would say that the jumpsuit would be perfect for your party, and a little bit different from anything I have seen in the shops here! Just keep in mind that although its Spring, the weather could still be a bit cool and also rainy, so perhaps a jacket might not be a bad idea, as you could just throw it on over the top if needed.

  17. I will also say that my black one is THE most amazing quality for the money. Better than Whistles, if that helps make your mind up...??!
