Can you ever have too many?

Well the answer is obviously no.  Unless you're a husband.  And you're talking about your wife's collection of striped tops.  As the answer may well be yes, but they would be wrong.  Very very wrong indeed, as I can officially confirm that one can never have too many striped tops.  That is officially in no official sense of the word.

However if we're following the faithful equation of cost per wear, then I think we'll find that striped tops are always a winner.  As they go with everything.  They are the perfect top bar none, of that I am confident.

So when it comes to looking for tops for Autumn, first up for me was a striped top.  And last week on holiday, a trip to one of my favourite boutiques ever, Collen & Clare was of course in order.  What couldn't I resist?  Well that will be....drum roll... yes, a striped top.  There was not enough eye rolling that the husband could do.  Were eye rolling an Olympic Sport my husband would be centre stage on that podium.

And super randomly, following on from my Here Come the Danes blog the other day, it just happened to be a Danish brand.  Here is what I bought.

Second Female Laura Stripey Top £66

Here's why.  Yes, look at the length of the sleeves...  This is a large as I didn't want it super skin tight even though they are supposed to be very fitted.  I will be layering it as well but to get the extra long arm length for me, I went Large.  As you can see, I am very pleased with it.  And yes, on the floor that is the pup Ginny - shops that let dogs in.  Winner.  Collen and Clare I love you.  If you get a chance to pop in, I can't recommend it highly enough.  One in Southwold, one in Aldeburgh and one in Burnham Market.  Alternatively, browse to your heart's content online.

So others that are on my wishlist.  Seeing as - you can genuinely never have too many.

I've said I was going to look at tops to wear with skirts (or culottes).  Look no further (although I will be doing a full blog on this, I promise...)

Stripe Raglan Crew Neck from Me+Em £89 in navy and white with 20% off using the code NEW20

Love the bargains at La Redoute with 25% off with the code NEW.

Breton Jumper £24

Interwoven drawstring sweater from Mango £49.99

Navy and white reversed and again, the perfect shape for a midi skirt or culottes.  Or any wide leg trousers.

Striped Jumper from La Redoute £24 with 25% discount using the code NEW20

The Knitted Breton in Navy and White from Me+Em £99  Again don't forget your discount with NEW20 and again perfect skirt top (although I wouldn't tuck in... this sits ideally just on waistband).

And moving away from the classic navy and white.

In the grey from Me+Em....£99 pre discount

Another grey version at La Redoute £29

Striped Jumper in red £24 from La Redoute with the code NEW20

Similar again at La Redoute so again with 25% off using the code NEW.

Striped Jumper £29

And the off piste polo necks.  I need all of these.
Stripe Jacquard Roll Neck from Nobody's Child at Topshop £14

Fine Wool Tencel Polo Neck in Rosewood/Auburn £79 from Toast

But when ti comes to different colourways, it has to be the cashmere jumper from Collen & Clare that I am regretting not getting.  Navy and orange.  Loved.  I did try it on and it does come up large, so if you are thinking of getting it, size down.

Jumper 1234 French Stripe Jumper £169  The small was fine for me.

Now it was too warm to wear my new polo neck today so I'm sporting a Mango sales bargain in black and brown metallic.

Stripe metallic top - Mango
Military jacket - Zara
Black skirt - M&S
Superstar sneakers - Golden Goose
Black Half Moon Bag - APC

And what to wear tomorrow - off to London for the day and apparently it's going to be a gazillion degrees.  Really?  Well.  We'll see... In the meantime, I shall be off ogling more stripe tops - can you ever have too many?

  1. You definitely can not have too many. My husband recently asked me while I was ironing if I had ironed the same top three times. No, just three very similar but extremely different tops. x

    1. They know NOTHING do they?! It's like me asking him how many white shirts he needs...

    2. And now that I come to think about it.. checked shirts? I think we'll call that check mate.

    3. Exactly! Or grey tshirts in my hubby's case.
Let's not get them started on black ankle boots though.... x

    4. Hmmm I think I'm not too bad on black ankle boots. Although I won't mention it as he may well bring up the topic of "handbags".... *runs*

  2. No you can NEVER have too many bretons, they're an absolute wardrobe staple! Great post and selection of tops :) I did a post about the history of the Breton top, found some fab pictures of french sailors wearing it as their uniform. They had 21 stripes, one for each of Napoleon Bonaparte’s victories. Coco Chanel incorporated stripes into her 1917 nautical collection and from then on the humble Breton secured its place in fashion history (and our wardrobes!) ;)

  3. I love the Second Female top. My local boutique that stocks that brand also allow dogs in, and is a regular stop on the way to dog friendly Caffe Nero.

    1. Oh you are SO lucky that your Caffe Nero allows dogs still. Ours doesn't. Which means that I no longer go there. However we do have any amazing cafe that lets dogs in called Otto's which is a gazillion times nicer than Neros anyway!!

    1. For me - their best tops are any that are in their Ines range. The perfect perfect fit for over skirts and culottes - fitted but not overly fitted...

  5. Firstly why WHY did I not know about that shop when I was in Southwold??? All that time spent looking at myself in the magic mirror on the pier that made my legs look long! I love hearing about the history of the Breton as well and NEVER enough stripes! I have T shirts and jumpers and wear them all the time. In Collioure in the South of France there is a shop that just sells stripy clothes run by Janine (the reason I know her name is because I was in there all the time!)

    1. Oh nooooooooo!! For me, it's the only reason to visit Southwold! (we are dyed in the wool Aldeburgh fans!) But it is THE most gorgeous shop (much bigger than the Aldeburgh ones) although in the meantime, have a look online xx

  6. Spooky,I've literally just weakened my resolve and ordered a stripey cashmere sweater from Boden (20% off until tomorrow, but discounts all week), it's not quite a breton being multicoloured, but it is oh so stripey!
I wasn't supposed to be indulging, but seeing as I'm returning a pair of boots that were slightly too small, and not quite me (however much I wanted them to be), I feel I can justify it!!

  8. If you wear all your stripy tops, how can you have too many? Breton stripes are just so versatile, your top is an investment piece after all ;). My partner has loads of checked shirts too...

    1. Well exactly! I could happily wear one every day. Perfect for layering too...

  9. Kat - If you have a minute, I am dithering over the Hush Onyx leather jacket... Is it really the bee's knees? Just need a final bit of persuasion as bikers generally don't seem to suit me, but I have high hopes for this one. Thanks,
    Jill

    1. Hi Jill

I've been dithering about the Hush Onyx for nearly a year. I've finally taken the plunge this week after trying it on in the new Hush John Lewis concession and I have to say it's the most amazing jacket ever. Beautifully soft, perfect cut, goes great over dresses and perfect with jeans. Go for it before it sells out! You won't regret it.

    2. Well I can only say what Diane has said. I have tried on so so so many leather biker jackets and this is the best bar none. Buy it before it sells out. And if you're between sizes - size down. And enjoy!

  10. Don't want to sound like a troll and I know this is meant to be a lighthearted blog but really. Doesn't anyone think we have too much stuff and that of course there is such a thing as too many. I love reading this blog and I am guilty myself of buying something similar to what I already own but doesn't anyone think it is getting out of hand? We have overseas sweatshops churning out clothes that we don't need but buy anyway and then forget we have because we have too/so much. Really don't want to be a downer but this isn't very sustainable is it
