It's random time again

Yes, it's the beauty one.  No I don't do these very often at all but I've been recently asked about my skincare and what I use and what I recommend, so here are a list of my current faves.  And yes, I have mentioned a lot of these before but - well, they work.

These are all things that I've bought - yes, I do regularly get sent things, some of which I like, some of which I think are just ok, some of which I rebuy myself as they're that good.  This is my list of things that have stood the test of time and I buy again and again.

Starting with my all time favourite face cream and the main reason for doing this now as it's such a bargain, I'd hate for anyone not to try it at such a great price.  I did a sneaky order this week from Feel Unique as they had some great bargains.

La Roche-Posay Redermic anti-wrinkle treatment was £29.50 now £19.75

It's clearly my inner wannabe a Parisian that means I'm obsessed with all sorts of French beauty products and my favourite brand has to be Nuxe.

There is nothing that epitomises French chic more to me than the fragrance of the Nuxe products.  Yes, I know, I know, I need to get out more but genuinely, this has such a pick me up effect to it.  An instant lift in a bottle, it just makes me feel (clearly totally randomly) just far more sophisticated.  The magic of the senses.

Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum £38 was £43.50 now £34.80

Whilst I was there it was rude not to have a quick squizz at the other Nuxe products as I was in need of some new shower gel and whilst there was 20% off and I was doing an order anyway.....

Hey presto.  Two birds with one stone.  And with Christmas round the corner...

Nuxe Body Lait Fluide Corps Moisturising Lotion with free Gel Douche Shower Gel - was £16.50 now £13.20.  This is still £16.50 for JUST the moisturising lotion at M&S.

This set sold out the other day, I watched it like a hawk and it came back in stock but if you want it, I'd be quick.  Funnily enough, it's selling like hot cakes.

And when I was checking the prices at M&S, I noticed that they had a Prodigieux Shower gel as well - with gold shimmer, so ideal for the party season (I say that - a) I have no idea how the shimmer stuff stays on your body after you've showered... no I haven't used it yet - not one for disco on the school run and b) when I say party "season", I do mean one Christmas party...)

Was definitely worth a go... so if anyone sees me glowing whilst in the supermarket, they'll know why.

Nuxe Prodigieux Huile de douche shower oil was £10 now £8

And actually I've just noticed they've added another special offer.  Oh heck.  This is really too good to miss and can you ever have enough product stacked in the cupboard to use?  And my body oil has just run out... (also on offer with 20% off)

A Free Nuxe Creme Fraiche mask worth £18 when you spend £30 on Nuxe products.

The other absolutely favourite item in my beauty routine (which is brief, I will give you that) is the Emma Hardie Moringa Balm.  And in stock at the moment (again, this goes in and out of stock as people realise what a fab deal it is) so snap it up.  I've just ordered another one - I have tried waiting for the 20% discount offers but have never managed to find it instock.

Bargain of this - 150ml equivalent for the price of 100ml.  Three cleansing towels instead of one - these do in fact cost £14 for three on their own, so again, definitely worth buying in the pack.  Also great for holiday as opposed to having to lug the massive pot with you.

I have never heard anything say anything negative about this cleanser.  (cue lots of comments saying it's pants...)

Moringa Balm Set £38 for 3 x 50 mls from M&S

The other thing on my wish list which everyone swears by and I must try, is the Pixi Glow Tonic.  Feel free to regale me with your tales of how fabulous this is so I can put it on my Christmas list (code for - order next week...)

Glow Tonic by Pixi £18

Now when it comes to make up, I buy exceptionally little.  But on my shopping trip to London the other week, I couldn't resist this palette from Chanel.  This will last me years.  I wear it every day (so yes, I am disco queen on the school run....) and just plaster on more for nights out (like I said - beauty is not exactly my thang....)

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi Effect Quadra Eyeshadow £40 (and no I clearly do not ever use the pale pink one as I am makeup numpty)

So that's enough for now although I'm sure I have forgotten a couple of bits which will come back to me as soon as I press publish.

Perhaps slightly more interesting for some - reporting back from Bicester.

Lots of Christmas presents bought - gotta love Superdry and Jack Wills.  I also had a home splurge at The White Company, some not very interesting pillow cases and more interesting candles.  Not forgetting Ralph Lauren for The Husband.

And a couple of sneaky treats for me.  Bargains (of the Bicester variety it has to be said but I have never bought anything from there I regret) in the form of a bag.....

Classic brown suede bag from Coccinelle (£140 which I don't think was too bad at all - in my opinion it looks a lot lot more expensive than that)

Untitled

And a throwback vintage looking scarf from Gucci - who I am convinced are having a complete style revival.  £135.  Identical to the Louis Vuitton ones which are a snip of £500.  A classic I will (hopefully) have for years and years.

I'm embracing the brown....

Untitled

Outfit from yesterday.

Untitled

Navy cashmere jumper dress - Whistles
Skinny zip ankle jeans - Boden
Black Mario bag - Jerome Dreyfuss
Superstar sneakers - Golden Goose

I'm off this evening to a dinner party - wearing maybe another sneaky purchase from Sandro.  A top which was reduced to £28 from £180.  Well, I couldn't leave it there, could I?  Up tomorrow morning as we need to be at a rugby festival in Blackheath by 9am.  How bad can that be....?

  1. Love Emma Hardie Moringa Balm and the 3 x 50ml is the best value for money especially with 20pc off in M&S. They have started selling Pixi too and I picked up the Glow Tonic in there today. Love the Gucci scarf - got to love a Bicester Bargain!

    1. Oh I'm so pleased I'm not the only one! Yes, I saw it in M&S as well but they don't sell it in our tiny one. Boo.

  2. I like your posts but I heard bicester described as for 'people driving land rovers, wearing faux fur and leopard skin'.

A bag and scarf for £275?!! A world gone mad and thankfully far removed from mine...I won't be reading anymore.

    1. What a ludicrous post, in so many ways. First, if it isn't your thing, then hey, don't read it, but don't feel the need to come on and make embittered comments from the top of your high horse. I'm sure many of us don't have the budget to go out and spend a few hundred pounds on two items but you know (a) it's still lovely to look at nice things without being bitter that we can't afford them (b) if you stopped to think about it instead of just pursing your lips, you'd realise that these more expensive things can give us all inspiration for seeking out more budget versions, which Kat does all the time on her blog anyway and (c) different strokes for different folks, eh? The internet is full of blogs written by women with more money than I have. Do I feel the need to go and leave snippy comments about how they're wasting their money? No. No I do not. Take your attitude somewhere else and let the rest of us continue to read Kat's recommendations (and by the way, I'm going out today to buy the Primark sleeveless knit for £12 that she recommended so it isn't all Gucci round these parts).

      As you were.

    4. I'm sure there's a blog that would suit you Mandy .... maybe Google 'life's too short' as a starting point ;-)
Kat, you are a star and like Anna said, I may not be able to afford some of the items you blog about but this blog is about 'style', your own style and that sometimes hunting down similar more affordable items for yourself.
      Well done Kat.

    5. Kat I love your blog!! Since I've started reading it i have spent a small fortune on clothes and shoes and tried out loads of new styles. You are never going to please everyone its that marmite thing again. Just stay true to yourself and let the haters slide on by. Xx

    6. Very well said Anna! I love your blog Kat - it's one of my happy places! Am sure you'll ignore one bitter comment ... odd though because I CAN comment as I go to Bicester and have yet to see any furry beasts, real or faux, just plenty of nicely dressed, elegant ladies! :) xx

    7. Is she not reading properly??? The OTW boots and JD bag were WAY more ..... (just wanted to add some humour!). Kat, one of the reasons I am such a fan is that your blog covers all price ranges and you put it all together so, so well. I don't want to read, personally, only about High Street, although I love a bargain as much as anyone, but I want some glamour and inspiration, so thank you and please continue just as you are xx

    8. Well thank you ladies. It is indeed impossible to be all things to all men but I'm so pleased that so many of you do like the blog. It has between 8000 and 10000 page views a day so I guess it's appealing to some people. Mandy, I'm sorry it's not for you and do hope you find a blog that suits your needs better.

    9. I too love your blog. , I've discovered some great new retailers thanks to your recommendations and have decided to treat myself to fewer items but ones of better quality. As other readers have already commented it's about finding a style and sometimes hunting out more affordable versions. Sometimes it's just nice to look at more aspirational stuff or to get ideas for a "look". I have treated myself to some more pricey items but I know that they will last me years! I love reading your blog because as well as the fashion, you speak to us all like friends and we get a little glimpse of your life too! And you absolutely DONT need to justify how you spend your money... We are only here once after all!

    10. Mandy, you obviously haven't read many of Kats posts or you would realise that she covers ALL budgets and for those who can afford the bag and scarf (I can't but wish I could), I'm sure they are a bargain.
I've never replied to a blog before and I can't say much that the other ladies haven't, but I wanted to let you know Kat, that you have helped me find my passion for fashion again. After a serious illness and having twins 4 years ago, I lost my way a bit and what I did buy was all the same. Since finding your blog (the 1st and only one I follow) I care about how I look again, I have tried clothes and labels that I never would have before and most of the time. Its within my small budget.
Glad I've got that off my chest! Keep up the good work hun.

  3. I love the Redermic & have just repurchased it along with more LRP & Vichy whilst they have a thrid off! I've never tried the EH balm but it's on my wish list. The Pixi Glow Tonic I neither love nor hate, I wouldn't rush to repurchase it but everyone else loves it.
Great bag & scarf btw! X

    2. The Redermic is truly amazing for the money, isn't it? And interesting about the tonic. I'm such a feckless idiot I don't actually use any toner at all (like I say - beauty is NOT my strong point...)

  4. Love Nuxe - always smells like holidays to me - enjoy your Bicester purchases, it might seem a bit spendy but I'm sure that you will enjoy wearing them long after cheaper things have fallen apart - quality not quantity after all. Love your posts and look forward to them

    1. Thanks my love. They were a complete treat and like you say - it's quality over quantity although I love a cheap Primark bargain as a small addition to your wardrobe. All about mix and match in my book. Hope you continue to enjoy reading.

  5. I love the Nuxe oil and use it every day. i was only looking at the Gucci scarves last night as i am wanting a black one and as much as i love my LV one as you say £500+ and i do love the black LV scarf but thought i would look else where hence i went to the Gucci site and as you say they are almost identical to the LV ones. i am convinced i will love it as much as the LV and yes i think they are having a revival of sorts so going opt for the Gucci one. truth is i could get 4 different colours in the Gucci ones for the price of one LV.

  6. Bicester bargains! I was reading another blog and the woman had got some truly awful creased polyester tat from Dorothy Perkins (she acknowledged it as thus and normally looks good !) and it confirmed my thoughts about buying quality even if you have to wait for the sales or go discount!! Great bag xx

    1. I fear that the quality on the high street can be truly awful. For sure. There are some amazing finds but you do need to spend time digging them out. These were a great discount - a really really good discount and go with so many classics in my wardrobe I don't feel the need to have to justify them!

    1. Omg I forgot a chair (I need to buy a chair if I'm honest. I am SO buying a chair, my back was completely killing me after 5 hours standing up) And the coffee was totally dire. £1.50 for revolting instant crap. The bacon sandwiches and chips were exceptionally good though...! And it wasn't raining!

  10. Hi Kat and readers, if any of you have dry skin and struggle with foundation drying you out further, I can really recommend this bobby brown balm I've recently purchased ... gives you lovely dewy skin but not for oily girls! https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://m.bobbibrown.co.uk/product/14009/7350/Skincare/Tinted-Moisturizer/Extra-SPF-25-Tinted-Moisturizing-Balm&ved=0CDAQFjABahUKEwiQ-63XtrjIAhWF7RQKHd3pDac&usg=AFQjCNHQYcHh7e2hI2qXx3hebtZqnJDt6w&sig2=LSjJ0j8qTDc0q7-xbojPAA

  11. Afternoon Kat, I've never commented before but hate to see negativity on comments. I had some recently on an IG post and it's not nice. I'm sure you have, but just ignore them and carry on smiling cause that'll piss them off. Anyways, I've just bought the Pixi Glow Cleanser and can confirm it's a goodie. I've ordered the Glow Tonic on line as M & S had non.in.stock but can't wait to.try it out - Tracey xx (www.thenaughtyfortydiaries.com)

It gives me ideas of what I should be wearing in my 40's, which I think was the initial point :)

Yours is the only blog that I have bookmarked on my laptop, because You give me so many fantastic ideas for my little internet shopping habit that I have when I am away from home.

Baku is one of those places a lot of people have never heard of, i hadnt until my brother started working over there a few years ago, he has just got married to a local lady. always sounds and looks an interesting place judging by my bro in laws pics. I'm in my 50's and my Mum came up with Sheryl, i was the only one in school with that name. x

    4. Well I only have one friend call Debbie and I don't think I even know of anyone locally with that name so it is more unique than you think!! Sheryl - when I was growing up, all I wanted to be called was either Cheryl, Sheryl or Stephanie.....!!

    5. I'm late 30s and northern. I had THREE Lynettes in one class at school (plus several Emmas, Sarahs, Clares...). I would have died of happiness to have been called Sally, lol!

Back on topic, I swiped that Pixi tonic on my hand yesterday and it seemed nice, but nowt special (although appreciate than 1 x swipe on hand vs 100+ x swipes on face are worlds apart!). Having checked the ingredients, it's v similar to the Liz Earle skin tonic, which I 100% recommend. It has a lovely smell and really refreshes. I course through the stuff in the summer :-)
