Things that make you go hmmmm..

.... I'm going to throw it out there.. Desigual.  To be fair, I don't think I've been into a Desigual for about 8yrs since friends of mine took me to one in Barcelona and my eyes nearly bled.  It was not for me.

Roll forward a myriad of time and there I am, in Barcelona airport on Saturday, salivating over pretty much everything in the shop.  I KNOW RIGHT?

Have I changed (older, grumpier, with less patience and a penchant for the eclectic) or has Desigual changed?  Or is it just that their USP is now something we all hanker after.  Scroll back up to the penchant for the eclectic...

If you don't know of Desigual, it's a Spanish brand that doesn't hide itself under a bushel.  It's bright, it's loud, it's slightly bonkers, it's Su Pollard in a nutshell.  And considering I'm having a more is more moment, I was like a kid in a candy store.

The other thing that surprised me was that it's not cheap.  I don't know what I expected - actually I do... Mango prices I guess?  Alas no.  Think higher end of the high street.  We're not talking Maje or Sandro but definitely Whistles and Jigsaw price tags.  Is the quality as good?  Hmm I guess a wash would tell....

However - after sitting at the airport and lamenting the fact I didn't try anything on (even there, the prices weren't that much different to the UK ones), a quick google search and I've found that with your first order - 15% off with free delivery and free returns (music to my ears - seriously, it's like finding out you could revisit the ice cream at the Ponderosa restaurant when you were 10.  Does ANYONE remember the Ponderosa restaurants?  That will sort the men from the boys...) when you sign up for their newsletter (or fill something in - I just did it and it says it will give me 15% off my first order... tbc...).

But in the meantime - let me show you what I'm talking about.  What I'm most excited about finding a brand that makes me hyperventilate is, that it's not something I've heard other people wax lyrical about.  To find a gem out there that not everyone else will be wearing is fashion heaven.  And one that, whilst it's not cheap, is more affordable than other niche designer brands.  Did I also say that everything seems to go into the washing machine?!

My top three things are...

This dress.  Oh.  Hello.

Brigitte Dress £159

This skirt... all the love for this.

Aqua Skirt £94

With this tee... I know, I know... but it's so wrong it's right.

Hanoi Vietnam Mickey Tee £39

Then there's this skirt..

Eryx Skirt £94

Then there are a couple of plain tees which work perfectly with the overtopness of everything else.

And breaaaaaathe....

Neusifu t-shirt was £54 now £37.80

Which they also do in the black.. alas, not in the sale.

Neusifu tee £54

Gabriela Dress £119

Bye Bye Love Dress £119

And then a set of co-ords which you can wear separately or together to give the illusion of a jumpsuit.

Perth Australia Printed Shirt £65

Boston Pants £94

Alternatively, this top makes a different sort of outfit for the above trousers.  Which would also work as well over jeans or a white maxi skirt.  Pair of cut offs for holiday?

Agnes tee - £54

Eve one piece £109

I will say that I haven't tried ANY of this on, so I am utterly useless when it comes to sizing (sorry....) but I am absolutely going to do an order.

So have I totally lost my mind?  Break it to me gently...

In the meantime, I have been ringing the changes here with an almost all black outfit yesterday.

Jumper - A Finer Thread (gift current)
Skirt - Label Mix at Next (gift current)
Boots - Maje from Bicester Village (aw16)
Jacket - hush (gift 4yrs ago)
Bag - Hill & Friends (gift current)
Scarf - Louis Vuitton (10yrs ago)

And the bargain of a dress that I bought when it was snowing... it did take a while to arrive (but the weather was an issue....and it was worth the wait.  £20.. YES TWENTY POUNDS! Down from £119)

Dress - Laura Ashley (sale ss18)
Trainers - Ishikawa from Quattro Rish (current)
Jacket - Tu from Sainsburys (ss17)
Basket - Rae Feather (gift ss17)
Scarf - Louis Vuitton (5 yrs ago)

So one of us went swimming today... obviously it was the small thrill seeking, sensory overload loving one of us who has Aspergers.  He LOVED it.  The rest of us huddled under blankets on the beach.  Also saw Ready Player One - better than I'd anticipated although I wouldn't say rush to see it... rather random having so many adverts for Games instead of Trailers.  I'm hoping it was because of the film content and not the way the world is heading *weeps as the mother of boys*.

Hope everyone else is having a great Easter break!

    1. That's totally what I thought it was! I agree - it's definitely at the toppy end price wise... I guess if the quality is really good (as opposed to Zara where everything completely changes shape after one wash...)

  5. I went in Desigual at Alicante airport the other day, it's new there and not a big shop and I didn't see any of the things you have suggested BUT I bought a nice summery tote bag.

  6. I wondered what Desigual was all about... in Barcelona a couple years ago I was at the airport waiting for the luggage to come out, and the ads were plastered all over the place! About the only thing I really like here is the first dress, the maxi. I usually love a good print, but in the case of Desigual I'd have to say I'm not a fan.

  7. I did order a tee 3 or 4 years ago, and was quite shocked at the quality (as you say it's not cheap), needless to say it went back quick sharp. Hopefully things have improved since. Generally I'm drawn to their accessories, more than any thing else, but I do like the mickey t-shirt though.

    1. Hmm that's interesting. I only gave these a cursory feel but they did feel better than the usual Zara quality.. only a wash would tell I guess.

  8. Well not sure about the clothes but I do like the way the models are smiling and laughing about it all, instead of the poker faces so many stores prefer

  9. Some of it is very pretty. Another place worth looking for print is Derhy - some pretty combinations amongst a few weird things.

  10. Laura Ashley - that's a blast from the past. I've had the odd decent thing from there, which always surprised me! Desigual is my sister's favourite and if you ever saw my sister you'd understand why it totally puts me off! I have to say the stuff you've shown does look better but I'm still not much of a print gal. xx

    1. I was never a big fan of print but it's like I've turned into a total colour magpie! I will say that randomly I like MORE print as opposed to a hint of it (go figure..!!)

  11. I actually gave that Laura Ashley dress to the charity shop as I felt it was too long for me.........why??? sob.

    1. Hmm to be fair, I do think it would be slightly hard to shorten due to the shape at the bottom.. if that makes you feel better??!

  12. I'm pretty sure there used to be a Desigual store on Regent Street, left-hand side as you walk down from Oxford Circus. Don't know if its still there but might be worth a look. x

  13. There is a Desiguel on Regent st. I know where most of them are inc the flagship in Barcelona. All because my partner loves the mens stuff! I have one red dress that i got in the sale, its quite toned down for them, doesn't need ironing and is ruched up one side - a great little holiday dress but generally I don't buy anything there and just lounge around while she shops - they do have excellent lounging around places in their shops!
