And it's the first skirt blog post of the season
Because like the dresses, these show no signs of going anywhere. Stock up and wear on rotation with all your favourite jumpers, blouses and tees that you already have in your wardrobe.
I will admit that I personally find them slightly more trickier to wear than a dress as they do need a bit more thought as to what to wear with them. It's hardly rocket science (slight indication as to how totally lazy I am) but it does take more thinking about the sorts of tops that work with them (even it's just to make sure the ones that do match aren't languishing at the bottom of a laundry basket), ditto a jacket. Colour and shape.
But once you've got that mastered, they will bring you all sorts of untold joy. I say that and appreciate it sounds like all sorts of fashion bumfluff but honestly, it's true. They're also more versatile than a dress as you can change them up or down with different tops - a tee or a silk pussy bow blouse means they can be wearable for totally different occasions.
Today I'm going maxi as - believe it or not - this is what I am most often asked about. For the past couple of seasons they've definitely been only really available at the more expensive end of the scale but the high street, in their inimitable style, have got some corkers this season.
Print porn at Boden. Now this is a very similar version to the La Double J ones which I am obsessed with but fully acknowledge that they are definitely an investment.
Thea Maxi Skirt from Boden was £85 now £51
Which they also have in a navy version, also £51
Now I've had this brand recommended to me by a number of people over the last season - it's a brand that you can buy in lots of places but the cheapest I found from looking at them all was at Dorothy Perkins.
Joile Moi Black Floral Print Skirt was £68 now £49
Jolie Moi Leaf Print was £75 now £45
Jolie Moi Black Tiered Maxi Skirt was £75 now £45
Jolie Moi Black Pattern Tiered Maxi Skirt was £75 now £45
It's not all black - there is a gorgeous navy one too.
Jolie Moi Navy Star Maxi Skirt was £68 now £45
LOVE these colours - perfect for taking the sunshine into the Autumn and Winter.
Jolie Moi Blue Maxi Skirt was £68 now £45
Glamorous Maxi Skirt £45
Print Maxi new in at Mint Velvet £89
This one I absolutely adore. I love this, I love love LOVE so much.
Minnie polka dot skirt from Lee Matthews at Matches £265
ASOS DESIGN Floral Hanky Hem Skirt £28
Brown and navy silk at The Outnet.
Chloe tiered printed silk-chiffon skirt was £395 now £158
Dainty georgette floral print wrap skirt from Ganni £170
However I've saved my favourite till last.
Salma Print Handkerchief Skirt from Mint Velvet £99
And here I am.... not in a skirt. Ringing the changes with wide leg trousers but there is definitely going to be a lot of skirt action on the horizon.
Tee - MKT Studio (gift current)
Wide leg jeans - M&S (sale ss18)
Sandals - Zara (current)
Earrings - Kaaren Buchanen (gift ss18)
Bag - Liberty's (gift current)
Sunglasses - Chloe from Very Exclusive (ss17)
Next mission is definitely The Jacket. Managed without one today and it was curiously warm. I'd love to say there was a chill in the air as that would be more appropriate for thinking about jackets but... there wasn't. However the horizon is NOT looking scorchio so let the jacket porn begin.
Wow, that is a shameless copy from Boden of the La Double J skirt!! I think brands should think for themselves a little more? I coveted the La Double J one for ages, and many of my favourite prints were in fact sold out, but at least with that investment you know you're getting a vintage-worthy piece you'll keep for your daughters. Three Graces also have a lovely few maxi skirts but they are also eye-wateringly expensive... L x
ReplyDeleteIt's very similar, isn't it?! To be honest, it's not exactly the same - there's a LOT less fabric and there are no pockets but the La Double J is just way too much for some people (in terms of statement - it's VERY Scarlett O'Hara!) and budget. So good on Boden to be fair - it's a fab skirt! Will check out Three Graces, thank you xx
DeleteIt's also VERY similar to a Maison Scotch skirt I bought earlier in the season, here --https://www.lyst.com/clothing/maison-scotch-tiered-maxi-skirt/?reason=feed-product&link_id=534130544&product_gallery=512379219. I was hoping to wear it soon, but it was too hot when I bought it and now I've just returned from 3 weeks away and it's too bloody cold. I'm sure I can find a jumper to wear with it, but I had my heart set on simple black T, patterned skirt and strappy flat sandals dammit!
