The perfect Spring top knitted thingy.

Proper technical fashion term that.  To be fair, it does sound only marginally worse than cardie.  Which is what we are essentially discussing here.  Cardigans.  But not of the old lady variety, oh no.  Well, I say that... to be fair, basically we're talking about half of a twin set.  (and I wouldn't tell anyone if you wanted to add the other twin to the set.  I love a twin set, my matchy matchy radar goes off the scale, into heavenly orbit.)

But it has occurred to me these are the perfect light piece of layerable clothing (that's not a word but it should be) for this time of year.  You can do all the buttons up if you are not blessed of bosom and wear as a jumper or you can layer a vest or close fitting tee underneath (even a shirt) and undo the top buttons as a different look or if God has been kinder to you in the chest department.

They are also the ideal top to go over pretty much any sort of bottoms I can think of.  Now I haven't caved yet on the skirt or the culotte front - the jury is still out as I become more and more obsessed with my trousers.  But I did mention that I would be bringing you some tops ideas of what to wear with them.  Well... voila!

These would look great over full waisted skirts (ideally make sure you get one that sits on the waist and has snugger ribbing round the bottom so not the Me+Em ones) - this will give you a much better silhouette.  Alternatively they will look as good over a pencil skirt and definitely perfect over culottes.

If, like me, you are still at that stage of the year when trousers are surgically attached to your legs then fear not, these are still the knitwear pieces for you.  They look great over skinnies (the slightly looser ones for me personally), they sit at the perfect point for full on flattering over boyfriend or looser jeans and work amazingly with all types of cargos and harems, be them jersey, silky viscose or cotton.

Starting with the on fire shop of the season, Mango  (is anyone else still waiting for their order by the way... I haven't heard hide nor hair from them.  I do hope they haven't forgotten me even though I can't actually keep any of it....)
Mango Round Neck Essential Care Cardigan £19.99 in Gunmetal grey

Undone is just as good - in amarillo candy (who thinks that name up - really?)

Pale pink with an embossed polka dot detail £29.99

Now personally I love this cardie look with a round neck as I think you can achieve a v neck look by just undoing a couple of buttons but in case you prefer a genuine v neck, this from Mango is fantastic.

Contrast Back Cardigan £34.99 (err but those grey jeans did NOT look that on my behind.... see yesterday for proof....)

Now trust me when I say (again....) that these are definitely so much better in real life than the pics online.  Justice they do not do them.  I would perhaps size up one size to give them the right amount of looseness.  From the Reigning King of the High Street Crap Photos - M&S.

Tipped Cardigan M&S £19.50  This looks so so so SO much better in the flesh.  That is all.

Cashmilon Tipped Cardigan £19.50  I know there are some people that don't like Cashmilon and I can't vouch for how this washes, but it feels absolutely lovely and soft...

These are also amazing.  Super cute, boxy cardigan with lovely little balls instead of buttons.

Bobble Button Cardigan £18.00

And a pale pink - this is stunning £18.00

However I think I would definitely go for the Merino Wool ones from Me+Em.  They look absolutely gorgeous and would be fantastic layered as well for the Autumn.

Box Cardigan from Me+Em £88

Gorgeous in the bubblegum pink £88

Or a lovely pastel pale blue

I will return to this as well as some other tops ideas as certainly, I'm constantly being told it's a thorny area for so many people (me included).

Now this is me yesterday and no I'm not trying to be trendily moody, I had finished hollering at my two boys who between them (and their playdate who unfortunately had a killer left foot) managed to break a window whilst playing football.

Unfair really as it doesn't sum up my day at all - gym and a lovely lunch with a great friend and I *may* have gone to try on the Hobbs Blue check coat which *may* have been totally fabulous.  DARN IT.  I have till Sunday to make my mind up.  One thing I did think about cunningly doing was on an extra page here have a little blog sale of some of my clothes to make room for more..... I know I threatened to do one previously but I wonder if anyone would be interested?

Anyway, here I am looking beyond arsey.

Off out for dinner tonight to an amazing Italian with some great friends which I am ridiculously looking forward to.  Now - am vaguely contemplating wearing flats.  Which seems so so so wrong..... Which I know is bizarre.  Am I alone in this?  Would you wear flats out on evening or do you not feel dressed unless you have heels on?

Hopefully be back tomorrow xx

  2. I love cardigans!! I know they have a bit of a stigma for being a little bit granny like but I think what you can get these days looks so much better for modern woman. I don't generally wear jumpers because I get way too hot so cardigans are the perfect compromise for me. Loving the selection here - noted for my trip to Brighton tomorrow :-) x

  3. Yep I love a spring jumper or cardi, love that pink Mango one. Gutted as I just missed out on a lovely top in the Mint Velvet sale, very much like one of Hush's. Kicking myself for not snaffling it sooner.

Must admit I don't usually wear flats out in the evenings, mostly because I would only reach most people's mid knee level. I'll usually bug my husband and opt for a pair of car to bar shoes that I cant walk in and then sneak a pair of flaties in my bag :-)

  4. Yes to clothes sale. Yes to flats, but I'm 6 foot tall so don't wear very high heels anyway. Not blown away by any of those cardigans, except the mango green one, could just be their styling though, but they are very handy in spring and early summer so will investigate. Speaking of Mango I would contact them, my order from Saturday arrived on Wednesday. They send everything by DHL express. Great service.

    1. GAH I still haven't had my order (and nor have quite a lot of other people judging by Twitter) I can't even remember what I ordered! I'm 5ft 10 but still always wear heels - I'm like bloody Gulliver in them.

  6. Have you looked at Boden cardis? They seem to specialise in this shape. My only issue with them is that I find them a bit short with skinny jeans or similar if you are heavier of thigh.... Know what you mean about flat shoes on a night out. In theory I like them, but tried putting that theory into practice earlier in the week and felt fat all evening. Tricky! But then my legs are about a foot shorter than yours so that may be why! And yes yes yes to the clothing sale x

    1. Hmm I can't remember if I looked or not - that's a great idea. Yes, I;m TOTALLY with you on the flats for evening and ended up in heels, even though we were sitting down all night anyway - ludicrous!

  13. Yes to cardis as so many dresses are sleeveless. My Mango order from Sunday is on it's way so a nice surprise when I get to work on Tuesday. Have you looked at the lovely cardis in Uniqlo? Fab colours and quality especially the cashmere cotton mix ones.

    1. no I'll have a look at Uniqlo, fab idea. Mine still isn't here. GAH.

  14. I have loads of cardis as I like to have the option of taking them off when I get hot. Easier than a jumper if I've no other layer on. I've been wearing my boden button back jumper unbuttoned & turned around as a cardi to extend it into maternity wear!

  15. If styled right a summer cardi is so useful! I am lamenting my old gap cardi that I had to retire after about 20 yrs (can't complain!) cotton in a pale lime/yellow. Not a colour I would notmally choose but it was a true sale bargain and perked up many a summer outfit. British weather often needs extra layers. I will have a look at your links to try to find a replacement. But what colour...

Kat, don't be put off by dry clean only as you can buy a home kit (I got mine from lakeland but sure other places would do it). It's a huge ziplock.bag with a kind of baby wipe with the cleaning chemicals in. Just tumble dry on low for 20mins and there you go. I especially use it for freshening up scarves.

    1. I LOVE this idea, thank you so so much - off to check them out now (for when I get my new tumble drier!)

  18. Oh bummer for the window! Boys eh?! I used to be a bit of a cardy queen & have totally gone off of them in recent years! Looks like I need to take them seriously again....perfect for this weather that can't make its mind up & would go with everything! xx
