Disco Pants

I love a Chrimbo dress.  And the shop is full of full on numbers.  We have lace, we have sequins, we have disco dresses a plenty.  The ads on tv and in mags are one lavish party after another - men in black tie and the women dressed up to the nines.

Ok.  How many of us go to parties like that?  I have one.  But that's it.  One!  One night out and about five dresses in my wardrobe that I could wear.  Actually I may be exaggerating at the five and two of them I have worn with the same group of people last Christmas and in Jan.  But that does leave at least two others I can think of off the top of my head which would be perfect.

Having said that, the one that I will probably wear is a full on sequin number I purchased at great expense about four years ago and I reckon I must have worn it about 10 times now.  So there is an argument to be said for having at least a couple of Party Party dresses in your wardrobe. *shelve blog for another day*.  I just don't need another one.  Foiled again.

However (every cloud and all that), I'm not being a total hermit this Christmas and already I have a number of dinners that will definitely require something slightly dressier than the good old skinny jeans, heels, top and a blazer (this outfit can be tweaked *shelve blog mark 2*)

I love the festive season, I really do, as it is a great opportunity to just dress up that little bit more.  It's the one time of the year we can justify sparkle for the pub.

And my idea today also works for those who perhaps don't want to wear a dress on Christmas Day or New Year's Eve.  I am talking Disco Pants.

Now before anyone starts to hyperventilate at the thought of me advocating shorts (which you are welcome to wear - gold sequins work for Kylie after all and she must have been hovering about the 40 mark when she wore them), I'm sticking to pants of the US version ie trousers.

A pair of these can be a fabulously versatile addition to your wardrobe.  Some can even work for work or a smart casual lunch (something that can't be said for a Strictly Sequin dress) and yes, dress up dress down is the key.

Inspired, if I'm honest by this outfit selection from one of the Sunday supplements (which I saw at the rugby club and since I was suffering PTSD from my carpark marshalling, I can't recall whether it was Style or You).  I saw it and I thought yuk.  I then looked again and thought - hell no, I LOVE this.

Full on sequin pants.  No holds barred, Studio 54 eat your heart out, we are going for gold.  Of the super sparkly variety.  I thought they were black but on hauling my sorry behind into FCUK this week, I discovered they were actually green.  At first I then again thought, oh gawd no, I'd look like a Leprechaun on a Hen Do.  But then....... yes, I thought - these could so work.

Sirius Sequinned Trousers £140

If they are a tad full on (can't possibly think why they might be....) then these are perhaps on the more subtle side.

I found these also at FCUK.  French Connection Sparkle Ray Trousers £110

I did however manage to find black ones at Mint Velvet.

Mint Velvet Sequin Peg Leg Trousers £110

Still sequintastic at Mango.  And guess what?  Oh yes, there is another discount.  SERIOUSLY?  But who are we to judge - let's go shopping.

30% off if you buy one item and 40% off if you buy two.  Code is 6DISCOUNT - now it doesn't include everything - nothing already on promotion or anything marked with a star or a circle.

I happen to love these.  Do I love them as much as the FCUK ones?  Probably not but they're a shed load cheaper - even though I'm not sure they'd actually have the longevity of the ones above.  Now I know that sounds bonkers but I honestly think you'd wear the ones above year after year after year.   Just a more classic shape and I think it's fair to say that sequins are a Christmas classic.

These though are the ultimate in loungewear glamour.

Premium Glitter Jogging Bottoms from Mango £44.99  These both seem to be on offer - so 40% off if you were to buy the outfit.

Also don't forget about making the most of the 25% off at Boden (who I called by the way about my dress and a jumper that a friend of mine said I had to send back as it looked 20 years old when it is in fact only from last Christmas..... so watch this space) and these have been on my radar since last year.

Bistro Crop Trouser in a Metallic Jacquard were £89 now £66.75

If you don't want to do anything that actually sparkles then a print can be a more subtle take on the theme (in fact I prefer these to the metallic ones above....)

Bistro Crop Trouser in navy leopard were £59 now £44.25  Maybe ring the changes with silver shoes? (the Jackie ones from yesterday would look gorgeous with these... I feel the need for a Disco Shoe thread as well.. I never did find a pair of gold ones)

I have though found some others at M&S - a lovely silvery grey tweed metallic pair.  As per usual, these look so much better in the flesh.

Slim Leg Trousers With Wool from Autograph £45.00

Another option which are slightly on the plainer side but mean you would be able to let your top do the talking (and which makes them even more versatile than a disco pair) are these black and white ones from Atterley Road.

Betin Cigarette Pants £42

Now I need to go and tend to my poor husband who has a broken collarbone and lots of scrapes and bruises from being knocked off his cycle by a car yesterday morning (hence no blog on Monday).  I could go on and on as I've found loads of options but I think these deserve another look another day.  Also plan on saying what I would team them with.  Are these a good idea for a festive outfit or are they just a huge no no for you?

Outfit from yesterday (looking knackered - spent all morning at A&E with The Husband, only to have to return in the afternoon with the 10yr old to have her burn redressed again.)

Denim Shirt - New Look Men's
Navy and white jumper - Pull & Bear
Jeans turned up - Rock & Republic
Camel longline blazer coat - Zara
White leather tennis shoes - Zara
Cognac satchel - Campomaggi from Plumo

And today after a lovely power walk in our local Country Park with friends. (no I didn't wear this, I had to go stove shopping, school pick up and watch football training - obviously indoors...!)

image

Black polo neck - Zara (this is 6 years old!)
Black triple zip jeans - Mint Velvet
Leopard print coat - Fenn Wright Manson
Taupe suede Oxford brogues - Seven Boot Lane
Whiskey Medium Marcie - Chloe

I will now confess I am off to have a look at the Mango site - I am on a knitwear mission...... i did order two jumpers from there last time - I'm not sure I love love them though but at the very least I'm going to take them back and reorder with 40% off.  Stupid not to! (haven't worn them obviously...)

  4. I bought two shift dresses from Mango during the last promotion, £30 instead of £45. Bought blank and navy, trying to decide which to keep.... maybe both?! http://shop.mango.com/GB/p0/women/clothing/zip-shift-dress/?id=31035000_1U&n=1&s=prendas.vestidosprendas&ident=0__0_1415741100045&ts=1415741100045

  6. like an idiot I've had some pewter silver full on sequin h&m ones in my bag for over a week waiting for a free shipping code. Obviously sold out now. What an idiot I am! They were about £30?!? Luckily I still have some Karen Mullen full on wide leg black sequin ones which were a lot more expensive but everyone calls them my Michael Jackson pants when I wear them! Luckily I'm not easily offended and 'they' are middle aged men, so hardly style authorities!

  7. I like the Mango trousers and love the idea of not wearing a dress. For ages I was a bit obsessed with some tartan crop trousers and a top from Boden and had a plan to wear them together on Xmas day with heels and then wear them seperately but of course while I thoiught about it and waited for codes they have sold out in my size! My only worry with the trousers is that they might rub bald patches for those of us not svelte of thigh. I have a lovely White Company pale grey sequin T shirt bougt by OH for me last year after much hinting and I have found that it is a swine to wear and my arms hurt as they brush the sequins. Might try it with a long sleeved something under it!

  8. PS Just tried the Mango code on the complete outfit in a late night shoppinbg madness but didnt work, probably just as well - worried that they might be very thin material

  9. Do it, buy the sequin pants! I have sequin everything except for pants. Not sure if I will buy/wear a pair, the thought of losing sequins everywhere bugs me. Yet, I have sequin skirts and dresses and have no fear of this. Go figure.

Wishing a speedy recovery for your husband.

  10. Sounds like you've had a real week of it :-( Hope your husband is on the road to recovery.

I love a pair of disco pants! I've got the gold sparkly harems from Next, and I'd already worn them twice before November kicked in. I live on the edge. They are perfect for hiding your stomach after a large meal (major consideration for me) and best of all they're really comfortable. For £26, I'm quite chuffed with them!

I'm debating a sequin pencil skirt for casual Xmas nights out maybe teamed with a fitted denim skirt to stop it looking too xmassy so yes could definitely get on board with sequin peg trousers - go for it!!
