And sometimes it doesn't pay to spend more
This is a bitter sweet post for me. Ok so definitely more sweet than bitter as it's a yay for those of use who have to budget wisely to afford anything from Matches, Net-a-Porter et al.
Yes, we're talking about the Jennys. The Isabel Marant boots that I have been contemplating (code for obsessed with) for the past couple of weeks. I didn't buy them willy nilly. I searched every site known to man for a tribute in my size and colour, but nada.
So cobbling together funds (boyfriend jeans you are yesterday's priority), I thought the best thing to do would be to get them out of my system.
Now we all know that this never works. They arrive, they're stunning, you eat beans for the next two months.
But stone the crows, I don't like them. Ok to be fair, it's not that I don't like them. I just don't think they remotely warrant their eye watering price tag of £360. They're just normal. They're £40 normal. Here's what they should look like
And here's what they look like on me. In my head I had elevated them to the dizzy heights of The Perfect Spring/Summer/Autumn Boot. They are now The Average Boot.
Seeing them in the flesh also served to remind me of another pair of boots that I have had for a couple of years and whilst being very very different - well. They'll do. In fact it used to bug me the fact that they were so slouchy and thus I haven't worn them for a while. Oh the irony.
Excuse the array of fingerprints on the mirror which are 4 yr old height. They are now gone.

Now pondering whether I need new boots at all..... So whilst I have a ponder of my wishlist, anything exciting on yours to inspire me?
Personally I don't think any shoe is worth £360 (apart from maybe the Kensington Ugg....one day). Humpgf, anyway I do like them, can you find a high street equivilient
ReplyDeleteI LOVE them. but def not for 360....return and dig out the others.....hair fab in pics btw:-)
ReplyDeleteI agree, those boots are meh, especially for the price. I have had my eye on these for a while, and they are similar-ish and absolutely bargainous http://www.shoeaholics.com/women/shoes/boots/pedestal-5.html
ReplyDeleteSophie x
I like nice footwear but nothing thrills me more than a cheaper and often nicer look-a-like x
ReplyDeleteI actually really prefer the other boots you are wearing with the straps on them. The colour is so similar and although they're taller, they'll give you a similar look. Spend the £360 on something else equally fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLoving your scarf Kat - is it a recent one? Think you made the right choice with regards to the boots. I'm still pondering the Louboutin's on my wish list and whether they are worth their pennies x
ReplyDeleteThank you Kat for carrying out the exercise. I am now over them (I think).
ReplyDeleteThey are nice, but a tad boring for that price. Love those strappy boots though!
ReplyDeleteYep, I really, really like the Vivienne Westwoodesque strappy boots in the pics - I have been looking for a pair like that for ages! Who made them? The Isabel Marant ones are lovely but unfortunately there are very similar boots out there for a fraction of the cost. I just got some from La Redoute...I'll swap you mine for your strappy ones!!! Just Kidding. Unless...
ReplyDeleteI think anyone who pays £360 for a pair of scruffy looking boots obviously has more money than sense! !
ReplyDeleteGot the Zara version on Oxford st the other day - £30 and pretty nearly exactly the same. They had loads in size 6...
ReplyDeleteWhat a disappointment but they do look pretty average and not worth the price tag.
ReplyDeleteYour 'old' pair are much nicer, I think the Marants look a bit 80s exchange student.
ReplyDeleteThe strappy boots are amazing! I thought first they were the £360 pair. Unfortunately it seems that you paid more for the Marant name than anything else on that one (though indeed they may be top quality boots). I'd love to know however where the strappy boots are from!
ReplyDeleteClarks (yes really1) were doing a pair a few months ago that I tried - similar to this and £300 cheaper! You have done well to return them
ReplyDeleteFiona
Kat,hate to break it to you but I may have to rob you of your old ones!!'they are amazing!! send bk the jennys....straps are waaaaaaaaay nicer....score...put the 360 towards a certain handbag:-) helen cork xx
ReplyDeleteI totally thin you're right.. Its actually quite a nice feeling when you know that you have made a money saving decision! Also they are so going to be all over the high street, looking practically identical for £60! x
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the Joie boots at ShopStyle - as modelled by Tiffany Wendel on her blog today. Not a total bargain at £167 but much cheaper than the Marant version.
ReplyDeleteHi, I have to agree with all the previous comments... I don't like them on you, if they don't look good on you Kat, they won't look good on anyone ! My Russell & Bromley Rockafellas have been well worth the £ per wear investment. Like your Zara scarf.
ReplyDeleteThe Marant boots are lovely but I think for that price tag you need to get something more than just nice shoes - like:
ReplyDeletea) they are completely different to anything else in your wardrobe or
b) it is a style classic (i.e. chanel handbag) or
c) it is made of top quality materials (gold, silver, platinum) or
d) they are hand-made shoes crafted to your feet or
e) you know you will wear it forever.
the last one is normally the killer for me. I get bored of stuff so fast! I'd rather buy cheap and often, than expensive and rarely.
