Things you never thought you'd write.
I'm a cover girl. (seriously how ridiculous do I feel writing that).
I should start with apologies as this post is all a bit (ok a lot) about me. (and then a bit more about me...) But I do want to also say a huge thank you to everyone who has been supportive of the blog as, without you, I would never have been in a position where I was asked to do it.
This really has been the most amazing year for me - hard work yes, of which there is lots more to come. And recognition for what has been achieved in the form of being asked to be the July Cover Girl for Essentials, along with a double page spread, is really mind boggling.
I also think it's testament to how the more "ahem" mature blogger is managing to make their way and gain popularity and credibility in the blogging world which has previously been swamped by the young, nubile fashionistas of this world.
So high five for us oldies. And long may it continue.
Also a thank you to the team at Essentials for the most amazing day shoot. xxxx
Now the kids came over slightly star struck and think it's hilarious (perhaps not quite the reaction I was looking for but...) to see me pics of their mum on the magazine shelves. And so they asked to take photos. In for a penny, in for a pound, negating any street cred I may have built up.
These are from our day out in London on Friday (spend wandering around Covent Garden watching the street entertainers. The best "free" way to spend a day in London with kids. They were utterly mesmerised - as was I, I have to say. Some seriously good magicians we saw!).
Firstly at the station. (next to Instyle no less)
Downstairs at the supermarket. Next to Natural Health. Ummmm
And upstairs next to Tatler. (which has some lovely looking sunnies free this month which look like they might be worth a buy).
And finally some pics from the last couple of days. Here in one of my favourite tops which I am gutted to report I have had to take back. The second time I've had to return it. I literally wore the other one twice and it came apart at the seams and this was the first wear of the replacement. The fabric is so so delicate and clearly so terribly made that it's just not worth keeping it as it will be full of holes by the end of the season. To be honest, I'm not sure if would even last a wash. It may only be £30 but that's a total waste of £30 if you can't wear it. Zara - you have a lot to answer for.....

Hi,Kat. You look absolutely stunning on that magazine cover!
ReplyDeleteWell done to you. Thoroughly deserved. Keep up the good blogging xx
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever read essentials, I will be checking out at the village shop tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWell done.....that is amazing, you look fantastic xx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a cover girl - how exciting! I absolutely love those gap real straight jeans - are they new? The exact cut and colour I've been looking for!
ReplyDeleteNic x
Just brilliant! :) xx
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your magazine cover Kat - how fantastic! Will be buying the mag tomorrow. Thoroughly deserved, well done you! xxx
ReplyDeleteCongratulations you look stunning on the cover must buy tomorrow despite having bought 3 magazines already since Friday slightly addicted please don't start me on an essentials kick too bad enough with easy living red and Instyle!
ReplyDeleteTried to pick it up today but couldn't find it :( WIll try again - well done ! X
ReplyDeleteI was only commenting today on another blog about the terrible quality of some of Zara's tops. Sometimes they really do have a nerve and to be honest they are probably made in the same place as Primark but with different labels. We expect more from you Zara! That aside, you look fabulous in all your pics and I am certainly going to hunt out the Essentials mag :)
ReplyDeleteWOWSER KAT!!!!!!!! You look horrendously fabulously gorgeous!Well done m'dear.....Helen Cork xxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you're on the cover of a magazine. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, great to see that us oldies are not totally past it yet. :D
Hey well done! V exciting - and loving the Chanel purse!
ReplyDeleteYou look totally fabulous Kat! Congratulations:)
ReplyDelete~Anne
How fabulous do you look?!! Wow! And love the hat! I have fallen totally out of love with Zara. I still think they do great jackets and a lot of their necklaces are gorgeous. But ... their tops are cheap and nasty looking. Dreadful fabric, awful finish and laughable quality! You could get better in Primark for a quarter of the price.
ReplyDeleteIt's a fab article, well done!! X
ReplyDeleteWell done you - a cover girl! Vogue next? And yay for flying the banner for us 40 somethings.
ReplyDeleteShame about the top - some of the things look really nice on the website but don't hold up in real life. You really have to inspect the stitching and the finish on a lot of it. I wonder if they stripped away some of the gloss from the shop floor - would the clothes look quite so enticing?
What a brilliant achievement Kat - so happy for you and cannot wait to check it out in the newsagents today. It must have been a sell-out as they had none yesterday :) Onwards and upwards - what an amazing journey it's been and hopefully lots more fab stuff to come x
ReplyDeleteWell done you - and agree - hurrah for the more 'mature' blogger. Am a massive new fan of your blog. Bang on the money - neither mutton dressed as lamb nor 'jolly-given up even trying'-Boden-stylee. Frankly, though, I think you look even better on your own blog site than on that cover - ie I think you nail it as your own stylist. Meant as a compliment!
ReplyDeleteI spotted you in Waitrose last week (ooh posh!) - I was browsing through the magazines and thought the model on the front of Essentials looked familiar... You look great and the feature is a good read (obviously I had to buy it). Love the newsagent poses too!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your blog - it gives me ideas for new things to try and hope that all is not lost over 40. In fact I feel I've finally found 'my' style and look better (and feel more comfortable) than I ever have and that's partly down to you.
PMSL at you in the stores next to the mag - that's brilliant!
ReplyDeleteAlso LOVE LOVE LOVE the maxi skirt!
Although you look lovely on the mag cover, I think you look far better when you 'do' yourself! You look a teensy bit 'plasticky' for my liking whereas your shots look natural. Fantastic achievement though and definitely one to be VERY proud of! X
ReplyDeleteI was very disturbed to see you poking out at me in my local Co-op this week. It was really quite surreal!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Congratulations Young Cover Girl-less of the old too, forty is the new twenty don't you know, hehe!! Love your pics and the Zara maxi skirt is gorgeous! xx
ReplyDeleteFabulous, congratulations you deserve it all! I wish they'd let you style yourself you would have looked even better.
ReplyDeleteThat's sooo exciting and fully deserved. Will get my copy tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteLOL, how cool is that!
ReplyDeleteWell done cover girl! I love the floral jeans.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Kat. I love reading your blog, Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove Isla in Falkirk x
Wow - you look great and, dare I say, not out of place on the cover of a magazine. Keep making us smile.
ReplyDeleteLynxxx
Hi - love your blog and all the clothes and jewellery you wear! My taste exactly:) Looking forward to the details for your new gold necklace - is it another Alex Monroe, love his jewellery (I have the gold bumblebee you wear such a lot - along with a few others in my collection, is this another?). Rachelx
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the cover and article. Bought the last copy in our W H Smith today. Haven't bought a magazine for months prior to this as I have been enjoying all my blogs so much including yours of course! Marie S x
ReplyDeleteThe seeking mag photos are hilarious! You look great on the cover, congrats again xx
ReplyDeleteHow cool! Congratulations! I am a "newish" follower of your blog, and now I am hooked! I think you have great style and an amazing ability to come up with cool outfits.I am 5'10" as well and I find it hard to find things that fit that are long enough! I love that your commentaries sound completely honest and that your blog is not full of publicity. I have already bought a few things based on your blog and I am loving them! Thanks and keep up the good blogging! :) CR
