Finding a new option

So every now and again - I stumble across an idea that is completely new to my wardrobe.

In the last year, it's included dungarees (which may make another guest appearance this year but it will be a blink and you'll miss it moment... they're ok for a change but they're not my favourite, I will admit.  Handily they were £9.99...), wide leg crops (LOVE) and midi skirts and dresses.

The latter of which I can't get enough of.  Well - I probably could if I could actually find some...

And then I started seeing jumper versions.  Now I do need to just flag that the thought has fleetingly crossed my mind that one could perhaps look like a massive knitted condom in one of these and although it was only a passing thought, it *may* have somewhat put me off.

But I am determined to crack this DARN midi dress.  Especially as I've got a confession to make.. I've returned the LK Bennett black and white midi skirt.  I know I know, it looked great but I cannot master a blooming top to go with it.  I just feel meh in all of them and yes I should probably just buy the LK Bennett one but I don't love it enough to spend £145 on it.  That makes it a really expensive outfit which.....- I don't LOVE love love.  I've tried it with different shoes to casual it down and I won't be wearing it out - I just can't feel comfortable in it.

This is why I don't like skirts... grrrr.  And this is why I am now totally determined to master this midi dress fiasco.  I have to say, I am really erring towards the LK Bennett one which had a mixed reaction.  Or I may actually cave and get the Warehouse one which is almost a third of the price.  I think I might get it and try and style it up at home (this is up your own behind speak for "trying it on with shoes").

I am confident that I have nailed the jackets though and whilst having been away, I've decided I'm definitely going to get the hush leather jacket which will make these midi dresses PERFECT for during the day.  With the Ash Mira Chelsea boots, this is one of my Spring looks sorted.

Well I'm saying that - *slight* issue in that there isn't a dress yet.

So a different stance today - as I mentioned earlier, the midi knit dress.  I saw the first dress a couple of weeks ago online at Mango and it didn't sing to me even though it's a dead ringer to a Joseph one from A/W which I had thought hmm about (although not for the ££££ it was).  But then, with my newly found biker jacket obsession, it occurred to me - potential perfect outfit.

Will any of these work?  I think they need to be tried on.

Bow Knitted Dress from Mango £39.99

Similar in what they describe as tobacco but I'd probably say was a rust.. either way, alas it's not my colour BUT it's a complete bargain.  DARN.

ASOS Midi Dress was £38 now £19

Sleeveless now which would be great for layering.

ASOS Midi dress with tie front detail was £35 now £24.50

Now this one I love.  I know I wouldn't wear it in a million years as I would have no occasion but I think it's an epic dress.

ASOS Maxi Dress in rib with off the shoulder £60

Slightly more wearable although I do prefer a plain one I think...

ASOS Midi dress in colourblock was £40 now £24

This one is perfect though and I think is definitely worth looking at.  I'm thinking the double layer would perhaps be more flattering and maybe less clingy than a tube style one.  (it's also the reason I like the one with the faux belt...)

ASOS Midi dress with double layer in grey £42

Plain again at Whistles.  I fear I have too many bumps for this one.

Whistles Knitted Crew Neck in Bordeaux was £128 now £28

Now this one has a "slip" with it which I reckon means it won't cling as much as some might.

Cable Knit Midi Dress £160 from Karen Millen

And i've got to fling this one in as it's such a complete bargain.

Paul Smith Black zipped back red jumper dress was £235 now £56

And this one... as I think you could be forgiven for thinking it was Whistles.  But no.  Wallis.  Yes, Wallis.  Can't find it for sale at Wallis but you can get it for a bargain from Zalando.

Wallis Jumper Dress £35

Absolutely adore this styling.  And in fact - thank you Zalando for the inspiration as I do have a Whistles one that would look great worn like this.  Although not quite ready for bare legs yet.  Dear god, no.

So I am not really any nearer to finding a dress but on the upside, I do have an idea of how to wear my Whistles knit dress in the Spring.

And finishing with my photos from the last couple of days.  What can I say about Soho Farmhouse?  Simply the most perfect hotel I have ever been to.  Ever ever ever.  Genuinely can't rave about it enough, it is just heaven.

Bicester on the other hand... what a wash out.  Literally, it was absolutely chucking it down.  I got nothing.  Well, I bought shampoo.  New Ojon travel pack.  Whoop whoop.  The husband?  A coat and five shirts.  I appreciate this is no doubt divine retribution and I am simply leaving it at that.

Here's what I wore yesterday.  This is after only a couple of glasses of champagne for lunch.  I was in awe of the wellies.

And today - heinously hungover after a 3am finish.  We had dinner and then went to see Creed at the cinema (and yes, I may have fallen asleep.. in the comfiest cinema seats ever.  With foot stools).  Back to the bar for one or five espresso martinis...

Fabulous lie in, a late lunch and then home.  I could honestly never go anywhere else on holiday.

Day with the husband tomorrow which I have to say I'm rather looking forward to.  Test driving cars and then I might see if he wants to "nip" to Bluewater.  Oh how we laughed...

  1. I have the Karen Millen dress! Rarely go on there and popped in tried on loved. The slip does give a smooth silhouette, it's my go to dress. Dress down and dress up looks amazing. I'm 5' 9 and it's a true midi length. Slightly shocked I got there before you suggested it- you've been costing me a fortune

  4. Have you seen the back of that Paul Smith one? Love it! Jumper dresses are tricky though. Too large and you look like a bag, too snug and the tummy and other problem areas just can't hide anymore...

  6. I love jumper dresses. Mine are more tunic length but some of these are very tempting! I agree the grey double layer one could be very flattering, the whistles burgundy one looks lovely but I have a toast one in a similar colour, already. Perfect with a biker jacket ;).

I was wearing my red trainers yesterday too. Love that last outfit.

  7. Not dress related, although the very first one is lovely, but every time you wear them I think, I must buy some red trainers!!

  8. Oh I love a jumper dress!! The 'snug' ones I wear over one of those 'slip' shaped body shapers (that have straps but sit under your bra then hold everything in down to your knees, not sure what they are called!), does the trick for some of the lumps, bumps and VPL - or at least that is what I'm telling myself!

I keep seeing your lovely scarf from 'Black' but an internet search for 'Scarf from Black' will bring up about 10 million black scarves (they didn't think that name through did they!), would love to have a look, do you have a link? Thank you!x

  9. Hi, just a quicky - referring to your biker jacket search, I was on Very sale yesterday and they have a khaki suede biker style jacket in the sale - haven't checked the quality closer too or the sizes available, but may be worth a look as I seem to remember you saying you wouldn't mind a khaki one!??

    1. I've looked at this but it's a silk dress and not a knitted one. The knitted versions sold out I think before they even went into the sale. But it's still a great dress and a GREAT bargain xx

  11. Ha ha ha! Yes, I've avoided longer ones but I am liking these. Although to be fair, I'm not a pear shape. Right - the black suede chelsea boots were ok... I just much preferred the Ash ones. x
