Let's go logo

Ok so theoretically it's slogan not logo but that doesn't rhyme.  But moving swiftly on as there are bargains to be had and this is one of my favourite topics to wax lyrical on.

Here is an example of where graceful and disgraceful are potentially at odds.  For me, these have crept into the realms of graceful whereas to a lot, I appreciate these are still very much the domain of the no go.

But I've fallen in love with them.  They've been around for years now, in both tee shirt, sweatshirt and now jumper vibe.  For me, they're a safe step into the disgraceful.  A classic cut tee or jumper (which therefore becomes an intarsia sweater...basically knitted into the jumper as opposed to embroidered on... I had to google it and apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.  I've learnt something today. *puffs v small chest*) with just that little extra edge from a slogan.

Maybe the reason I have such an affiliation with these is my obsession with all things Wham in the 80s.  My Go Go tee was possibly my most prized possession and clearly I have a hankering to recreate my teens.  (clearly the Relax ones were way way too cool for me).

Which has been made easy by the (what I consider to be) more mainstream versions that have been around for the past couple of years.  And show absolutely no signs of diminishing in popularity.

For me, they are simply so easy to wear and slot into a classic capsule wardrobe with exceptionally little effort.  I was asked recently, what my personal style is (how to answer that without sounding like a tool?) and I hedged my bets with "if you held a gun at my head and promised never to repeat it, I would say modern classic with an edge".  And this is your perfect addition of "edge".  But alas, lots of the designer ones, do come at a cost.

And I'm not going to say it definitely is but at least one of the first to make these mainstream and, I still maintain, wearable for those of us not still in college was Zoe Karssen back in 2010.

These are normally not cheap at all but a couple of years ago, I managed to snaffle a couple from TK Maxx at a bargain price.  Lo and behold, a lovely friend of mine said she'd heard there was a big Karssen drop at TK Maxx.  I wondered if they'd have any online and... hey presto.  Who needs the car?

Now I usually wear a Small in these, they are very oversized and loose.  I'm praying that the style of them hasn't changed as I ordered again in Small.

Zoe Karssen White Loose Fit Paris Tee from TK Maxx £14.99

Zoe Karrsen Loose fit Grey tee £14.99

Zoe Karrsen Loose Fit Bat tee £14.99 (yes I hedged my bets and ordered the XS as that was all they had left.. let's hope it's not too fit as vacuum packed bat over my boobs wouldn't be a good look on any analysis).

Navy Faded Zoe Karrsen Tee - £14.99

Talking of tees - I can't vouch for the quality or fit of these from Bella Freud but the jumpers are amazing.  Not as reasonable for sure.

Bella Freud Rockers was £85 now £51
Sonia by Sonia Rykiel tee was £70 now £35  This one looks slightly short for me but I love the Sonia Rykiel brand.  And I'm having a real thing about red at the moment.

Sweatshirts also on offer.  These are great layered with shirts and tees and can easily be worn as smarter wear.  Ok I'm not saying you'd wear it to work but a sweatshirt is no longer only fit for the gym.  Which is handy otherwise mine would never get any wear.

Zoe Karssen End of Love Sweatshirt from The Outnet was £95 now £47.50

Jumper at Marc Jacobs.  Intarsia natch..

Intarsia merino wool sweater by Marc Jacobs was £305 now £122

However slogan of the day has to go Moschino.  This made me chuckle a tad.  Especially as it's hand wash... Slightly expensive chuckle mind you.

Slogan Intarsia fine knit sweater from Moschino was £330 now £162

But it definitely doesn't have to be expensive and this, from ASOS I think is a complete winner.  Absolutely love.  Just wonder what the fit would be like but it's ASOS and easy as pie to order and return (I should know - I do it  A Lot).

ASOS Striped Tee £16  Considering my obsession with all things Parisian, this is fabulously tongue in cheek.

Another stripe version from Mango in dark navy (this looks black to me..)

Striped cotton t-shirt from Mango £15.99

Embroidered at Mango which seems like a really good price, although these aren't very long and, as I've said before, I do prefer a curved hem in a tee if you're going to wear it loose.  Again, they do look quite short in the body, but I am 5ft 10 so most things are.

Embroidered Cotton tee - £9.99 in the black

In the grey £9.99

And in the off white again £9.99

And finally a bargain, as I've worked out this is probably supposed to be a Christmas jumper.. but it's really the most Christmassey of sayings, is it?

Topshop Sugar & Spice Jumper was £39 now £10

How do I wear mine?  All year round.  Love them with a blazer over the top and a pair of jeans.  Now that I've decided that I'm going to be keeping the Ash Mira boots (Acne have been sent back as have the & Other Stories ones), the jumpers are perfect with a midi skirt and a loose coat.  Wide leg crops, cigarette pants, peg legs or cropped flares.  There are simply too many options that these will go with.  I also find them the most versatile tops in my wardrobe.  Perfect for dinner, a party, or for the school run.  If you haven't tried them, what are you waiting for?  (although I appreciate they're so not going to be for everyone and as I bore myself with saying, wouldn't it be a dull world if we all liked the same thing.  Plus how big would our wardrobes have to be?!)

Outfits from yesterday afternoon.  Quiet weekend here with just a trip into town to meet a friend for coffee with our daughters, after football in the morning.

Hope everyone else has had a good weekend.  I am absolutely exhausted.  Our lovely 9yr old with Aspergers is really struggling with lots of things at the moment (including sleeping which has the most horrendous knock on effect to err, everything) and with no wine as a treat in the evening, I may have ordered a couple of the Karssen tees as a pick me up.  Here's hoping I've ordered the right size....!

Am I the only one reliving her inner Go Go obsession with these?

Coming up, I need to tackle the thorny issue of jeans.  I've been asked which jean tribe am I going to join this year (actually that's not what I was asked at all - I was asked which jeans I was going to be wearing this year so apologies for the flowery guff I wrote).   Answer coming up...

  1. Very excited about the TK Max! Didn't even finish reading the blog until I had scooted over to their website and ordered the bat one and the Paris one - very few left of bat one! Have wanted one for ages and am equally obsessed with Paris (I may be wearing eiffel tower earrings as I write!) Hope you get more sleep - nothing more guaranteed to make you feel glum I find

    1. Oh I'm so pleased! I'm so tempted to also order the Mediums in case they've changed the sizing.... Hmmmmmmmmmm!!! And yes, lack of sleep is a complete killer. That and no wine.. And having to have the patience of a saint. Not the best combo!

    2. I've ordered the Mediums as well... for the sake of £3.95 delivery I'm going to have to take some back anyway so I may as well take loads back. I'd be gutted if for £15, they were too small!!

  2. How did you get on with the and other stories dress Kat? I love the look of the Spirit animal print one and wonder if you ordered it and what the sizing is like? I also love a logo ... Off to check out TK Maxx ... Thankyou! Sam xx

    1. That's the one I ordered and I got the 12... should have got the 10. SIzing in there is bonkers. And delivery is a nightmare. I can't not recommend them highly enough! RUBBISH! And the quality of the dress is pants as well. H&M quality for an £80 dress. Nothing like the cheesecloth ones I ordered last year. Really disappointed. The 11yr old came in when I was trying it on, looked at me and said "err WHAT are you wearing?". Personally I didn't think it was *that* bad, but apparently....! It definitely is one of those stores you need to go to. Like Cos - and there's a surprise, them being the same company!

    2. Comment from your 11 year old is classic! My kids are exactly the same! Thanks for that ... Saves me ordering! Xx

  3. I've just placed an order at TKMaxx for these on Friday night and they've been despatched. I so wanted the bat one but oos in my size. I can't wait to get them!! Hope the Large isn't too small as I'd like them to be a long and loose fit. Cross fingers!

Did you spot the logo sweatshirts - a coral colored one and a blue skull one?

    1. The large is Massive! You'll be absolutely fine! I did see the sweatshirts but didn't need them so forgot to include them. DOH! Hope people will have found them x

  4. Ahhhh yay, you fixed the date format, that was causing me such undue angst!! Huzzah!!
Am now going back to actually read about logo/slogan tops...

    1. I still need to sort out the little pics though which are all squashed, the fonts are different which is bugging me and there's no email sign up thingy which I forgot. Apart from that, I think it looks better. I *think* most people like it!

    2. Oh yeah, def, it's beautiful to look at. The date format is still American on the mobile version, shall avert my eyes to minimise twitching!! ;-)

    3. Sorry.. So much of Google is American. All the time postings are... I'll see if I can do something about the date! xxx

  5. Just ordered three, thanks. Had some luck with ZK online there before, but last time was a sweatshirt, and it's such poor quality! I order medium tees btw, and I'm a 10.

    1. Ah you see now I'm a 12 on top and my two tees are definitely Small (I checked before ordering!) But I've ordered the Mediums as well just to be safe. (although randomly am a Medium in the sweatshirts and could probably go a large!) I think the tees are much better quality, they wash like a complete dream. Best quality tees I've got (apart from an Eileen Fisher one which is absolutely amazing)

  6. Love these! I've been lusting after the Man Repeller x Etre Cecile 'am I french yet?' tees, and was considering the ASOS, ahem, tribute. Not sure anyone round our way would the irony though!! xx

    1. Now you see I'm such an awful living in a bubble creature, I have ZERO idea of what you're talking about! Ok so I've had a look and is it sacrilegious to say I prefer the ASOS one?!?

  8. I'm soooo late to this party, but I bought a starry tee last summer and I have just got a Levi's California tee from zalando for Spring (but I might have to wear them with a long-sleeved top underneath). Those Zoe Karsson ones are a bargain.

Poor you with your 9yr old and lack of sleep. My youngest , with SEN, was similar and we were referred by our GP to a sleep clinic for specialist advice. They were really helpful. There might be a similar service near you.

    1. Oh I am so late to the party constantly with things! Who cares though, so long as you love it when you find it! And thanks for the tip off re the sleep clinic. It's a new thing for him but it's having such a hideous knock on effect. The worse his behaviour is though, it seems the worse his sleep becomes - a horrible viscous circle. And it's so so hard for him, god love him. BUT we'll get there..! Thanks for your advice.

  10. Sorry to hear things are tough. Our lad, now 20!! has always struggled and now as an adult has developed his own weird pattern, which is basically staying up until about 3am until he's really tired. Bless you, not easy. I ordered the avocado toast one from ASOS, did you see that? I thought it was rather me. Haha xx

    1. Oh thanks my love - I know he'll be ok in the end, I really really do, it's just so heartbreaking seeing how much he struggles. Ha - didn't see the Avocado toast one - LOVE it! Will go and have a look now x

  11. I'm also into these slogan tees and I've just added a sweatshirt to the mix. Wildfox makes a bunch of these although I'm probably 20 years older than their target consumer, lol. I don't care though, they crack me up and they're mostly for lounging around the house anyway. I got a sweatsgirt that says, "I need a drink" and a v-neck tee that reads "Take me to my beach house" (I wanted it as soon as I saw on Mindy Kaling via IG). I also got a couple of sweatshirts for my sister's Xmas gifts, "Jet Lagged" and "Hell No. Cardio." Good stuff.

    1. Oh I LOVE the one that says "I need a drink". That's got my name all over it. The husband nearly bought me one for Christmas that says "I've seen the future and it looks expensive"! But they only had it in a small (which ironically would have fitted me as they come up big!) They are amazing quality x

  12. Love slogan tees... Ordered a couple of lovely ones recently from hush and mint velvet in their sales... The MV one is a lovely grey marl and bears the legend "grey is the new black" and was half price! The Hush one is white with "Etoile" on it in black ... Need some warmer weather now to wear them... Off to look at Zoe Karssen now!

    1. Oh yes, the hush one Is GORGEOUS. I meant to get it and totally forgot - drat. Hope they do another one for the summer!
