Take one stripe obsessed individual

And put her on a mission to find a Breton dress.  Or at the very least a stripy dress.  The sun is out and so are the legs.  Following a great discussion on Twitter, I (and others) have come to the conclusion "what would my 50/60/70 year old say about me now...?"

Mine would definitely say "why on EARTH didn't you get your legs out more?"

So, I have shaved and I have fake tanned and I am summer ready.  It wasn't nearly as painful as anticipated and I honestly felt like a new person in my outfits from last night and today.

It also made me look at my wardrobe and realise that I am woefully short on certain items (to file under "things I never thought I'd say").  Dresses and skirts.  Yes, I do have shorts but it's not quite warm enough for them yet and I do need to break myself in gently.

So I whipped out my leather skirt and breton top and felt really pretty darn good.  And whilst I have had a striped dress on my agenda for a while, today has made me focus and think, I would get a fair bit of wear out of one.

Perfect for with ankle boots, skater shoes, trainers, any sort of flat sandal or even heels in the evening with some of them.  Or how about with wedges or clog style shoes even (I feel the need to cover these soon....)

Without further ado, let's see what I uncovered earlier.

Breton dress from Toast £85  This a great neckline for those with a bigger bust, especially with the gathering underneath.

Breton Tunic from Toast £69 - in navy and antique white

And in mid grey/antique white

I've had this one on my wishlist since the beginning of the season.  Love the detailing on the back and the fact it's black and white.

Catherine Dress from Hush £45

Total bargain at Atterley Road.

Vila White Tinny Dress £25

I managed to hunt down the same dress at ASOS but with slightly longer sleeves and in black and white for again, an amazing price.  Thinking out loud here, but if this fabric is thick enough, I think you could wear this out in the evening - black blazer, black heeled gladiator sandals, either with or without big jewellery..... This one definitely needs to be tried me thinks.

Vila 3/4 sleeve striped dress £25

Personally I prefer the plainer look but if you do like detail on yours then the Breton Stripe Dress from Great Plains looks great.

In navy and white with pockets £50

Having said that, I do like the white pockets on this and the fact that it's black - huge tick from me.  This one goes nearly to the top of the list.  Would look fab with my black skater shoes, cheetah print skater shoes, black Birkies (that I don't have) or my Delphine shoes and a black blazer.... yum.

Breton Stripe Pocket Dress £50

Another black mix stripe dress is this one from M&S which I love and did try to buy but they didn't have it in stock.  Seems to be back in stock now though.  I have featured before but it's grown on me even more.

Pure Cotton Woven Striped Shift Dress from Autograph £65

Yet more monochrome in the reverse colourway this time at Jigsaw.

Jigsaw Cotton Stripe T-shirt dress £49

More black and ivory at Jaeger - another jersey machine washable dress but slightly longer.

Jaeger Striped Jersey dress £99

Longer again at Jaeger for those who don't want mid thigh, available in two colours.  This is more expensive but I think you probably would get what you pay for and it's definitely more difficult to find them longer.

Jaeger Stripe Jersey Dress £120 Navy/ivory

And in the grey £120

Variations on a theme now with different colours and embellishments but still getting your stripe fix.

Lucy Stripe Jersey Dress from Great Plains £55

More embellishment from M&S

Jewel Neckline Striped T-shirt dress from M&S £35

Still stripy but a linen dress with pockets - love this neckline.

Everyday Tunic Dress from Boden £59 in the blue/ivory stripe

Another different shape at Boden.

Sixties Ponte Dress £79

And a full skirt in stripes with their Erin Dress in navy and ivory £69 again at Boden

And in an orangey/red which they call firecracker.

Probably not one that you'd wear on a casual day bombing around but perfect for work or dressier occasions.  Stripes needn't be just for Breton style.

ASOS Pencil Dress with twist front £45  Exceptionally flattering shape.

Finishing the shorties with another great loose shape for the Summer from Atterley Road.

Ichi Jane Dress £26

A couple of maxi versions for you even though personally I am determined to expose my pins to the world!

Collection WEEKEND by John Lewis maxi dress in navy and white £55

More of a midi length in black and white at FCUK £60

Scoop hem dress again in black and white from Hush £45

Unusual red and navy colourway maxi at Boden £89

And a classic navy and ivory

This one is probably my fave from the maxi selection - love this with a little denim jacket and havs for the Summer.

ASOS Tie Dye Stripe maxi dress £40

And finishing on a WOW number.  This is just too stunning.

ASOS Swing Dress in pleated stripe £75

So there we have one or two to ponder.  Did everyone else have their legs out today?  To be honest, there wasn't the hugest amount of sunshine but it was definitely very warm.  Tomorrow is due to be the same, I may have to get ordering quickly!

And to prove that I'm not talking about of my behind, here is the photographic evidence.

Last night, out with the girls for another birthday celebration.  Fantastic night out, ending in the obligatory dancing and a hideously late night.  Oh and a sneaky May purchase to report - just a little DVF number that I've been contemplating.... All will be revealed shortly.

image

Dress - DVF
Suede jacket in washed black - All Saints
Tan heeled shoots - LK Bennett
De Manta clutch in tan - Alexander McQueen

Today I don't feel nearly as rough as I should - up and at 'em early doors to take the kids to tennis and drama and then this afternoon a trip en famille to Decathlon.  Don't ask.  It makes Sports Direct look like Harvey Nichols.  At least the small boys are kitted out in cricket whites for not much money and we managed a pit stop at Burger King.

Breton stripe top - H&M
Tan leather skirt - Zara
Cheetah print skater shoes - Next

You can tell when you did have a good evening out by your food consumption the following day.  Whopper for lunch followed by Chinese takeaway for dinner.  Oh yes.

Need to do an audit of how my May tally is going...... I haven't gone over...yet....

  9. First- you look wonderful with your legs out! It's so nice seeing you in a skirt. The dress is a great print too.

I definitely had my legs out all weekend but then I ditched tights in Feb on dry days and as soon as the sun is out I try to get outside in skirts/shorts even if it's April! I spent too long at uni/in my early twenties in jeans every single day worrying about what others thought. Now I don't care, my calves are big but toned from running & they keep a bit of runners tan through the winter so I just go with it.

Good luck with the dress hunt. One of my faves is a boden navy & white stripe from s/s13 with a yellow waistband.

  12. Yes, yes to stripy dresses! I discovered them last year. I have a grey gap maxi that is cool in the heat and dress up, dress down. I have just bought the scoop hem hush dress. It is lovely, v flattering shape, loose without being shapeless with raw hems too.

Love the atterley rd one, such a good price, if I didn't already have the hush one (was on 20% off the other weekend too).

    Love your dvf too. Gorgeous.
