Wishlist time

And today we've got a bit of bag porn.

I am going to pre-empt this by saying I actually don't need a new bag.

Famous last words if ever I wrote them. But for the moment, this is just a "wouldn't it be lovely if..." blog. Christmas is around the corner (ok yes you can kill me for mentioning the C word in July. When I say "around the corner" I obviously mean YEARS away) and it's never to early to start thinking about what might be, is it?

Something to look back on when I need it. Or maybe I'll shelve the Gucci boots if I survive the Summer with my new found Rules in place (although I have to say - the rules are costing me a fortune. New books, new pens - drawing is expensive! - art books etc... ) and get to the end of 6 weeks with lovely children like other people seem to have and not iPad riddled zombies, maybe I'll think of a bag and not boots. Just maybe.

Starting with new season at Matches. Let's dream big.

Half Moon Patent Leather Bag from APC £290 I have the black one and love it so much. Pared back, minimal, the perfect size - not too big and not too small. Honestly, it's the Goldilocks of every day bags. These do not hang around. They are rarely in stock so I would snap this up whilst it still is.

Speaking of burgundy brown - I am rather infatuated with this one... (slightly concerned by the name, I'm not going to lie. I'd love to assume there is another meaning for the word Teen but I fear not. Please feel free to enlighten me..! Not an aspirational name for a bag for anyone over the age of 14).

Speaking of bags I already have and don't need but want a ridiculously similar version, may I present the new Soho Disco... *fist bite* LOVE this.

But... fear not. Oh JCrew I love you. Check this out. Inspiration comes from many sources and this one may well have come from a certain company that sounds like Tucci but err... bothered?

Only issue is too many to choose from. Because you obviously only need one... don't you... (oh how we laughed).

So essentially you get to completely customise your bag... Ok so they call it "what's your purse-onality" which does make me want to slightly puke, but apart from that, this is a completely amazing idea

So I always bang on about navy bags but always end up buying black or tan. And here's why. These are probably my favourite out of all of the bags. From Mango. For a fraction of the cost of most here. And how expensive do they look?

And in the pastel brown - this would be my choice as the above is too similar to my beloved Chloe bag. A colour I will say goes with everything.

And this I love (not as much as the one above which I think is so completely unique). A nod to a Chloe style but not a direct tribute. Leather for less than £30. Would double up perfectly as an evening bag too.

However, how about a coloured bag. My red bag has been so so useful. And I had a pink Mulberry years and years ago which was more useful than I ever thought possible. Surely this would be worth adding to the wish list?

But finishing with a complete ringer. I love this. It's not the sort of bag I usually go for but it is incredibly useful. On the eve of going to Port Elliot Festival for the weekend, this is the bag I need. A sack to throw stuff in. In small pouches (I have a plethora of small pouches..) so that it doesn't become the black hole. This would be your Winter friend.

So I would love to carry on and find loads more fabulous bags but I have packing to do. It's festival time for us. I am ridiculously excited - I have no idea what I shall be wearing - seemingly leaving it till the last minute seemed the best plan earlier (and I wonder why the husband despairs...!). As I've always said - you can sleep when you're dead. Although admittedly this is usually in a club on a girls' weekend away and not when I have to contend with three children and a husband for a 6am start.

I shall be giving a run down of how we're getting on over on Instagram but will be back on Monday with a full report. Festival chic in hindsight.. will I have got it right? If I don't - clearly it will be the weather's fault.

Today - in my new sneakers which I've got for the weekend - my nod to a festival vibe with a slick of glitter. I cannot recommend these highly enough. I did a three mile walk with them on, straight out of the box, no socks and not a mark on my feet when I got back. Genuinely as comfortable as slippers. In stock from today.

It appears I will end up an entire car full of stuff - clearly new to this festival lark (yes I do have as much as I would packing for an entire week as opposed to three days) although the wine box is a new one for us. Slightly sceptical as to how they can get three bottles of wine into a box that is only marginally bigger than an iPad. Clearly getting my priorities sorted (which reminds me - where on earth are the kids' coats? Ugh).

Anyone for embroidery?

So you can either get merry with a needle. Or buy a ready made pair.

Following on from the Gucci thread the other week, of course it so happens that I am now obsessed with it and keep seeing tributes everywhere. Oh happy days and oh lucky us.

Now you may need to bear with me for this particular trend. At first glance, yes the early 90s are calling and they want their jeans back. But if you look a little bit closer, this is a really easy addition to your Autumn wardrobe.

Best thing about these is that one pair is all you need. Everyone has a plethora of plain jumpers, tees, blazers and coats in your wardrobe - a pair of embroidered jeans or a denim skirt will transform these into a super up to date outfit.

Embroidered denim. As I say you can do your own (and believe it or not, I did in fact embroider my own one Christmas holiday when I was at uni. Time on my hands, or what?!) or you can take advantage of what the high street has to offer. You could of course go premium, but honestly, for not a lot of money, there are some complete gems on offer.

My tip to wearing these would be, keep to classics for the rest of your outfit. A breton, a blazer, a pair of pumps (ankle strap ones I am All Over at the mo) or sneakers. Plain jumper, trench. That sort of get up. Think French. With some retro jeans thrown in (and now in my head I am Vanessa Paradis. You can tell it's day three of the holidays. Hysteria is starting to set in...).

So we're going to start at the safe end of the scale.

And I'm going to finish with a ringer.. a denim skirt. Not any denim skirt but an embroidered one... I have to say it's something I've never mastered (the denim skirt bit) and for me, these are too short. But that's not to say I wouldn't rule out a midi (yawn). However I love the shorter skirts on other people (which sounds slightly wrong diddly) but they definitely work on those who are shorter or who have gazelle like legs.

So to embroider or to stay plain? I've ordered a pair which have now gone out of stock (the fact mine haven't arrived yet, doesn't bode well). And even if they do arrive, chances are they'll be going straight back, but I'm definitely going to give them a try on. Anyone else?

So speaking of bags, I am being bombarded by emails that are full of new season loveliness. Which I'm going to share with you tomorrow.. don't all thank me at once..!

Goals

Suede boots.

I know we're in the throws of Summer but we've had a week of good weather, I've worn my Summer dresses and am frankly over it now. Fickle, moi? Mais oui.

I have developed a rather disturbing obsession with suede boots. This is second to my addiction to dresses which is on the verge of becoming out of control (but they're soooooo useful) and I may have succumbed to only one pair so far (the terror of them being sold out before it gets to Autumn is real, my friends).

What has led me to think these are going to be my number one footwear for the Autumn? Well - firstly they are the perfect addition to my new found dress obsession - bare legs for Summer (I shall be wearing mine shortly seeing as it's not 30 degrees any more) and either tan tights or opaques going into the cooler months.

Rain = a suede protector spray. That's all I'm saying on that topic. Although I will attempt to reassure you that they're not nearly as fragile as one would perhaps think. I reserve the right to exclude, from this theory, a pale suede.. but even then, I have old Ash Jalouses which I've sprayed and wear (albeit not in a downpour or in the depths of Winter) and have aged really quite well.

They also look amazing with culottes, with wide leg crops, with skirts (the skirt is racing up the obsession stakes and currently charting at number 3) and with cropped jeans.

So we're starting with a pair that are both sublime and ridiculous. But they would be so unbelievably useful and would go with genuinely everything that cost per wear (and I would start wearing mine now) these will probably work out at being your cheapest pair of boots (probably.. I appreciate it's a hard one to sell).

Whilst we're in fantasy land and blowing the budget, I am rather in love with the Harper boots from Chloe. Embracing the Victoriana. In a boot. Be steal my beating inner Helena Bonham Carter.

I'm not even going to mention the blouse and skirt here but *sharp intake of breath*....

However I have found a pair that aren't a direct copy but are the most superb variation on the theme. And I'm going to so far as to say that I prefer both the colour and the heel. I definitely prefer them being less than a tenth of the cost.

I was also thinking of adding a velvet khaki ribbon to the lace up...

Lace up also at Mango. Slightly different but the nod to Victoriana is there. It also means that these should hug the ankle well. Saggy ankle issue be gone.

However when it comes to lace ups, for me, these are a close second to the H&M ones. They remind me vaguely (as in they're not remotely similar...) to the ancient leather peep toe lace up Kurt Geiger heels I've had for 6 years. And still love and regularly wear.

Khaki again at River Island. The sock boot has landed. I predict these being even more prevalent this season than last. They are so easy to wear under those awkward length trousers, skirts and culottes. Not to mention, they're ideal with dungarees and jumpsuits which have always been notoriously difficult to team boots with.

But I have to say, for me, it would be the burgundy...

A blog on boots or shoes these days, wouldn't be complete without a contribution from Topshop. This season looks like being as good, if not better than the storming Summer they've had. Lock up your credit cards. That is all.

And in one of the must have colours of next season - the burgundy - well, they say rust but they look like a wine colour to me (I'm all over this, khaki and camel. Yum. Scrum).

So today, the sun was still definitely shining, my fake tan was still standing from Saturday so it was another day another dress. Another best buy in the sales from last year with the 7yr old gladiator sandals. I'm also amazed by how much I've been using this bag. Three years old now.

We started the first day of the holiday with a list of rules. According to some on Instagram (the list is on there if you would like to check it out - @doesmybumlook40) they are slightly draconian. I however, figure if you don't start hard, you have nothing to negotiate with. And actually they're nothing that I didn't have to do as a matter of due course as a child. In fact, I had to wash up instead of emptying the dishwasher. And playing outside for 30 mins was a treat not a chore. Darn iPads. We have had a WHOLE day without them. Even though they are allowed them after they've played properly inside and out, done something vaguely intellectual and done some (hardly workhouse) chores. Just limited time. Otherwise they would veg about on them all day.

Day one. Me - 1. IPads - 0.

I have promised myself that if I keep this up all holiday, those Gucci boots will be mine. Now that's a proper incentive...
